Home Use

Easy to install on the wall, but a little complicated if you need to provide power from the 24V furnace transformer. Very detailed and easy instructions if you need to use the Google Nest power adapter (no c-wire at thermostat) and it took me only 20 minutes to install power adapter.

Good Thermostat

Google LLC

I love my thermostat and I love being able to change the temperature with the app and set schedules. I do find however, that the app could be easier to use, specifically updating schedules that were created when you first set up your thermostat. I find some of the habits I thought would make sense I'd like to change. I consider myself good with technology but the app can be hard to figure out asides from just simply changing the temperature.

Great thermostat, app could be better

Everything from the install process, to set up went great as expected. The reason for the mediocre review is that it is only accessible through Google Home vs. the Nest App, the former of which is quite a bit inferior. Please allow this thermostat and the new Nest cameras to be accessible via the Nest app.

Nest Thermostat

Well installing this was a pain. I could not install it into my home in the Google Home app. It kept getting stuck on connecting to my wifi. I called Google support and they also could not get it installed into my home where all my displays, speakers, light bulbs, smart plugs etc. are setup. They had me create a new home and install the thermostat into this new home. It works this way however it's annoying as presence detecting doesn't always work for both homes when I leave the house with my cell phone! It should work properly in only one home I think! Not sure how to fix this so I am using it as is for now.

One step closer to bring my home smart. It looks nice. It is easy to operate. Very simple installation process if you spend some time with videos available. Too early to comment on operational performance and savings $$$. I like it. The batteries came with the Nest were not rechargeable. Within the space of three weeks I had to replace twice.

Looks really nice, it is on cloud now

Super thermostat but not for radiant heating (heated floor with hot water). As the thermostat reacts to the.5 degreased instead of.1, the heating starts too late and takes a long time (2 hours and more) to heat. The floor is cooler too. My old non-programmable thermostat is more responsive than the Nest. So I'm going to send him back and reinstall the old man. For other type of heating it must be great.

Good, but...

Good product, however there is no option to put the fan 24h/24h or ALWAYS ON. 12h is the maximum amount of time it can run without having to restart it again. This is irritating for some type of home that requires having the fan still in use.

Oliver

I have not been totally happy with this thermostat. It turns the heat on and off, but any 25 dollar thermostat will do that. Integration with smart home and google assistant is unpredictable and undependable. Several times i was told that this device was not set up yet. Needed to reset which was a royal pain. Manual controls are awkward at best. I would have preferred mechanical controls over the oversensitive edge touch control. If I could still return this I would choose a different smart thermostat.

NOT GREAT

Gone through 2 units now. Both work great for a few days or weeks. Then they show insane ambient temperatures of 45C/120F. Units are correctly mounted away from vents and sun. The units clearly have a defect and generate their own heat. Google suspects it could be the wifi chip but hasn't figured it out yet.

Unit overheats itself due to manufacturing defect

I am a Pro Nest Installer and have had this installed for about a month now and its just so frustrating to use compared to all the other products that Google(Nest) has released in the past. The outer ring does not turn and relies on Capacitance to register a turn and only on 1 side of the unit... and if your disabled or have dry hands it doesn't pick up a rotation. Then the other side works the same and is for navigating the settings menu and again is true if you have hands that are dry PLUS as many are used too the device doesn't click IN to register a OK... you have to tap the side of the unit again with your fingers... All in all this device is meant to be set up once and never locally touched and controlled purely from the GOOGLE HOME APP which again don't get me started that this is a NEST product but won't work with NEST APP only works with GOOGLE HOME APP ONLY..FRUSTRATING and if this is the way they're heading they need to rethink for model 2 that supports multistage systems!

Poor Design and Reliablility

Google Nest Thermostat Charcoal front-facing view of a round wall-mounted smart thermostat with a matte charcoal ring and central digital temperature display. Programmable, ENERGY STAR certified device with dual-band Wi‑Fi and Google Home app control for remote phone or tablet access; often used to manage secondary zones or monitor vacation-home temperatures.
