My situation may be unique. I needed a printer just for 2-5 pages a month. No color and no printing photos. Research indicated a black & white laser jet would be the best for my extremely low usage. I chose the HP printer as I have an HP Omnidesk  computer and an HP 24 in. monitor. This printer is a nice compact size and very easy to use. I used the USB hook up and downloaded the HP Smart app. Printing is clean and sharp. I just tried the scanner and had no problems scanning, saving file and also printing. I am not very tech savvy so I'm glad HP made this fairly easy to use. Of course if you have any problems, I have found HP Smart Friend support to ALWAYS resolve my issue.

Why I bought this printer

Amazing.  It clearly states on the package that this is meant for basic office duty, but I was able to push it harder.  I had a 1,000 page document I needed to print, and I went to a local office supply store for a quote.  They said it would be $213 tax.  I thought, "Maybe I should just get that HP laser printer I saw at Walmart instead.  They're pretty fast, and they're really efficient on ink."  At $159 plus a $48 toner cartridge (it comes with a cartridge but I had some heavy graphics on some pages), it was about the same price as the office supply store, but I'd have a whole printer left over!  And thanks to Walmart's next day shipping, I had it in my hands right away.  I used the 123.hp.com site to install the software on my laptop and connect to the printer via WiFi, and I was off printing.  Now, keep in mind that it's not a $1,000 industrial machine.  After about 100 pages, the thermal safety kicks in and halts printing.  No problem.  I would just turn it off, wait an hour or two for it to cool, and then run another 100-page job (it will also just print what's in the queue as it cools if you prefer to do it that way).  And the print is as beautiful as you'd expect from a laser printer.  Big kudos to HP on this one!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was surprised to have the printer as fast as I got it and I had it up and running in less than five minutes after opening the box!

It has one infuriating trait!  The printed paper comes out quite hot, curls over, and sometimes the completed work gets sucked in again, so that my printed page is then ruined.  Surely there must be some way in which the pages can be projected forward.

Compact and fast

I was promised ink for 6 months and I only got three. My printer didn't recognize the 3rd ink they sent, so I didn't get the rest. On top of that, the 3rd ink cartridge was lower than the other 2 and now I'm out. I have contacted HP twice and this never was resolved, so here sits my new printer with no ink. I don't like my pages being counted and that is the biggest downfall.  I was excited when I first used it because it printed out nicely, but that didn't last long.

No good service from HP.

It worked for a few weeks, but then it would not connect to our network. After hours of trying to get it figured out it reached for tech support. The person that I worked with was able to help get it reset, and again for a couple of weeks it was ok but then it stopped working just as my wife was starting a very important project she needed to to do. I can't trust this printer to work when we need it to. I reached out to HP again and this time left a message without response. I don't have a hour plus to work with the tech support whenever I want to print a project.

Unreliable when needed

I needed to get a new printer because my existing printer would not scan to my new computer.  I was thrilled with the set up.  Wireless connection is great.  After a few days, it started to "fight" with my existing security program.  It also does not seamlessly print. 2 sides, I need to refeed the pages to get the second pages to print.  The scanner is also a different logic than any other printer than I have used before.  I would not recommend.

Printer prints fine - it's a laser printer. BEWARE of HOW you are able to print. You can only use the wireless feature of this printer if you sign-up to have an account AND your printer is connected to the internet for HP to collect data from your printer. If you lose internet but your router still works, you can't print wirelessly. If your hp account is disconnected, you can't print wirelessly. The hp tech support told me to sign up or get a cable! All the descriptions should say, "To print wirelessly with this printer, you must have an hp account and give hp irrevocable access to the data the printer collects." No more hp products for me.

Can't print without internet or cable

Do not buy this printer! It is impossible to set the stupid app up. And without setting it up and attaching your printer to it, you won't get your free 6 months of ink toner cartridges. I think this is by design so they don't have to shell out the free ink personally. Skip this one. It isn't worth the aggravation and the time wasted.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER

It is difficult to scan. I really regret buying this printer. I wish I could return it.
