Reached out to Baxter before making my purchase. Yes, the product has been reformulated, as Baxter has changed some of its manufacturing partners. However, I have noticed SEVERAL reviews across many sites from the same unhappy customer, claiming the product has no hold now. It still works great for me, as I remember prior to the reformulation. If you liked this product before, it still works great. 

When using a mousse as a prestyler, this product will outperform many of my clay-based hair products for longevity of hold, even if I use a mousse with those clay products.

I bought this Hard Cream pomade to control my much shorter hair after having used Baxter's Clay Pomade for ~8 years on shoulder-length hair.  The Hard Cream pomade is smoother, easier to apply, and provides a natural looking hold with a natural looking shine.

Natural hold

I have thick curly hair, and I've searched far and wide for a hair product that will tame my hair. Baxter's Hard Cream Pomade is it! I've always struggled with curly hair and not being able to slick it back. I've tried all kinds of gels, clays, sprays, and pastes, and nothing seemed to work. Gels work the worst because it always leaves my hair wet and accentuates my curls which is what I don't want. Baxter's cream is the miracle hair product I've been searching for. I've ordered it many times, and it has not disappointed me. I can't speak to the formula changes, although the previous version had more natural ingredients. Maybe they decided to cut costs. Regardless, the cream still works. My hair can get super dry, and this cream not only moisturizes it but it also slicks back my thick curly hair to the point you'd think I had straight hair! Mind you, I don't use any hair straighteners or chemicals. My hair is all-natural, and this cream works very well with my hair. I can put it on with confidence anytime I go out, knowing that my hair will look great. I will say while the hold is relatively strong, it's not super strong. Since my hair is super thick and curly, it does need some backup. What's the secret? Add some hair powder and holding spray, and you're good to go. A trifecta cocktail that will make you look like 100 bucks! This non-sticky cream is excellent for curly hair.

This hard hold clay is like nothing else if found. It doesn't harden the hair. It will hold the style but not clog up your hair.

Smooth and strong

I've used this product for years, and it is truly incredible. Please please please do not discontinue it. I have been searching for an alternative for months and could not find anything that compared.

I have shorter hair that is on the thicker side. I have previously used other water and wax based pomades. Since they discontinued the wax pomade I'd been using I've been looking for something to replace it and unfortunately haven't found it yet. Although short, my hair is thick and does get slightly wavy when going further between haircuts. I don't like anything that makes my hair feel crusty and want something that will hold all day and be pliable (reworkable) since I must wear a hat outdoors and take it on and off multiple times. This is not it. I suppose if you're not interested or need to restyle your hair throughout the day it may work for you. It will hold fairly well and does have a natural finish, which is accurate. FWIW, I do use the Baxter clay pomade and have better luck with it, though it is very matte and takes some work to get pliable before adding it to your hair. In the end I don't think the product is 100% at fault and it's high quality, I just need to find something that's wax based and not water based to enable reworking throughout the day but isn't a bear to wash out.

I am incredibly DISAPPOINTED with the new formulation. 

I've bought this product for years. It was the only hair pomade that I liked. It always gave me a really strong hold with a very natural and smooth finish. They discontinued this product for almost a year and I was devastated. I struggled to find any other pomade that was similar. FINALLY they re-released this product and I was so happy to have it back. I ordered 3 of them because I missed it so much. To my disappointment the product was nothing like how I had remembered it and inaccurately described. It does not hold your hair up well at all. An hour after putting it in my hair falls back down the way it naturally does. AND on top of that is so shiny and nothing like the old natural finish. The new formula doesnt even look like the product photos here. It's not firm and is more of a paste. 

I thought there was maybe too much water in it, so I left the jar open for a day. This definitely helped but it's still not the same. PLEASE for the love of god go back to the old formula. This new formula is terrible and I will not be buying more until it is fixed. WHEN it is fixed I will buy it again and again and again as I used to for years. 

The photo shows it two days after air drying where it finally got a little bit firmer.
