Been using this stuff every day for about 2 weeks now, and I can already feel a difference in the strength of my nails! Some people complained about the smell, but I don't think it smells bad at all. The container is little, but you use so little each time I imagine this stuff is going to last a longgggg long time. So happy I found this stuff. Highly recommend!

Great Product

I started using this product after removing acrylics, supposedly the "dip" ones that supposedly don't do as much damage to your natural nails. Boy is that a gross untruth. My nails were brittle and had to be kept very short while growing out. I leave this at my desk at work and put it on my nails in the afternoon, and then put on hand lotion. Yes it has a "not pleasant" smell, however, my  hand lotion is very nicely scented, and the unpleasant scent from this product disappears. My nails are now very strong, beautiful, and all natural. I slammed fingers in a garage door, and they didn't even splinter. I had a manicure for my birthday and my manicurist commented on how strong they are. This product is awesome and I bought it on a whim, in the store, looking for ANYTHING that would help. I'm very happy and will be picking up more as the 1oz container just gave me my last treatment after a year. It doesn't take much.

I love this product

This product was originally used for horse hooves and was found to work well on human fingernails. It makes sense since horse hooves and human nails are essentially the same sort of thing... they are both unguis which are "hard, horn-like plates or claws at the end of an animal's digit." So, a horse's hoof is sort of like a giant fingernail, and hooves and human nails are all composed similarly and made out of keratin.

SO, I will address a negative review complaining about the scent. This product doesn't have fancy scents etc since it is actually horse-hoof cream. This product is very natural smelling, and the I believe the natural, "farmy" nature of this product's scent primarily comes from the lanolin, which is a fatty substance that comes from sheeps' wool and is used in many cosmetic and hair products, and ointments. It also does contain lavender and rosemary oils which do make the scent pretty pleasant, albeit "natural"-smelling and not perfumey. I find the scent pleasant compared to more perfumey scents which irritate my skin and my asthma.

This product is pretty thick and yes some may describe it as "greasy" since it contains several oils (soybean and castor) in addition to the lanolin, as well as beeswax. However, in my experience with this product, this "greasy" formula creates a good barrier and does a good job of protecting the nails from things like cleaning products, dish-washing, as well as general wear-and-tear type stuff. It does absorb into nails but it does leave a bit of a barrier on top of the nail, as well, which I think is a pro. It contains good strengthening and conditioning ingredients such as fatty acids, a couple types of natural glycerides, hydrolized wheat protein, and allantoin. These are the kind of things found in strengthening hair conditioners, among other products. 

Overall, I really like this product. It does strengthen my nails and use of this product is one of the only way I can actually grow my normally weak nails out.

I use this on my cuticles and nails at bedtime. Makes my cuticles soft and smooth compared to the usual cracking and hardened skin.

I have used this awesome product for about 1 yr., for cracked and peeling skin on thumbs that have been a problem for years.  It works!  Don't care how it smells.  I apply it every evening, followed by petroleum jelly to seal it in.  My Dermatologist has even given me a couple of prescription products that didn't work and were very expensive.  If you are having a problem with cracked skin on your fingers, try this.  Especially a problem now with all of us using hand sanitizers.  Thank you American International for making this product!  Please continue making it for us!

Love this product!

I applied this product several times a day on my unpolished, natural nails.  I believe it improved the appearance of my nails and cuticles.  However, improving the strength is still undetermined.  My nails are appearing to grow faster, but my hands are very busy hands, and they still want to break, snag, and split.

Hoof Cream

The Gena product is sticky and overly greasy.  It has a waxy build-up that doesn't absorb into the nail.  It also smells odd.  I plan to return it because it isn't worth using.  Walmart previously sold Onyx Hard as Hoof Nail Strengthener, which is much, much superior.  The Onyx product, now called Onyx Professional Nail Strengthener, has a pleasant cherry-almond fragrance, absorbs fast, and actually does moisturize the nail, strengthen it and promote accelerated growth.  I don't know why Walmart swapped Onyx out for an inferior product.

This stuff is terrible. Has not done a thing for me. On second jar and no results. Would not buy again.
