“Help, I'm Drowning” is a book that I wish I would have read in High School. It took me over two decades, lots of trials and tears, and complete isolation and dependancy on Christ to realize many of the gems that were presented in this book. It's packed with so many priceless, wonderful treasures!

When someone is in the middle of the darkest dark of their lives, when things have hit rock bottom and they can't find the light … quotes like “it's always darkest before the dawn” are worthless. Have you ever been in that kind of darkness? I have… and it's really dark! It's isolating, hard, and it definitely doesn't feel like the dawn is right around the corner!! It's sometimes hard to remember that God still cares for you when you are in complete despair. This is why I love this book! The author comes to you like the sweetest of friends, just what you need during times like that … just to sit with you in the dark. Just like Jesus. During your shortest of days, and the longest of nights you need a friend to keep you company right where you are (in the dark) with a small flicker of light! This book is just that … light in the darkness. It provides encouragement that will meet you right where you are in a way that is so relatable! As you read the words you will find yourself rising above depression and difficulty – despair and hopelessness and into the Gods promises and biblical truths. Right where faithfulness, hope, and grace is found.

This book definitely shows how Christians should combine salt and honey to encourage and provide a healing balm for hurting friends. It's definitely a book you'll want to keep on your book shelf (medicine cabinet) as a quick reminder of the Lord's goodness

I wish I would have read in High School.

Help, I'm Drowning is a terrifically timed book of encouragement and truth! Sally Clarkson addresses the questions many of us are thinking but afraid to ask; Does God care? Does anyone see me? Is this worth it? How can I be a better mother, wife, friend, and neighbor? Life in general is hard, and often not what we expected - but this past year and a half has exasperated this feeling for many of us. Bad things happen and the future is unclear but Sally reminds us "to have agency means I have the power to determine the choices I make, the way I become a steward of my own story, and the pathway I will take toward the legacy I want to leave. I have the possibility of walking by faith, straining toward a virtuous life, and emulating the power of God's Spirit in and through my life. I also have the agency to deny His goodness, to live defeated, to resist His grace, to rebel against His offer of companionship, or to be a victim of the darkness I see and experience." Instead of pat answers or formulae, Sally guides readers - like friends chatting over coffee, with vulnerability and honesty to think deeply about our situations and to trust the lighthouse beacon of God who WILL guide us to a safe place to land amid the storms of life.

Help, I'm Drowning is a breath of fresh air and a resource one can use over and over again no matter the trial, tribulation or storm as each chapter concludes with an anchoring prayer, scripture passage and reflection activity.

Anchor to God and He Will Lead Your Ashore

Life is full of storms.  I think all of us that lived through 2020 can agree with that.  It doesn't take much living to realize that life is sometimes messy, confusing, and downright discouraging.  So what do you do when life threatens to take you under?

In Sally Clarkson's latest book, she addresses the challenges that have stormed through her own life and the wisdom that she gained through them.  It's a honest testimony of her journey, full of ups and downs, and how she worked toward healing and restoration.

Clarkson's book is so refreshing.  Often times, Christian books will gloss over the hardships or provide shallow advice in the way of truth.  Clarkson doesn't shy away from addressing the very real challenges of life and how they can overwhelm us.  But she doesn't leave her reader there.  Instead, she gently coaches women in how to overcome, even grow stronger from these challenges.  While reading this book, I often felt as though Sally Clarkson was right there with me, offering sound advice for the road ahead.  This book is as if you had a mentor sharing her testimony and encouraging you with how the Lord has worked in her own life. 

One of my favorite pieces came near the end of the book when the author said this:

The grace and beauty of a woman shows brightly when she decides to stand up to the threats of the giants gales of wind and rain, to stand strong against her would-be foes with tools of heaven's design.  This determined one, by bringing order, wisdom, and peace into them, can make the storms of her life into memories of the power of God.

Help, I'm Drowning may be my favorite Sally Clarkson book.  It's honest and encouraging, real and uplifting.  This is a book that would bless the reader again and again.  I highly recommend this one.

Very Encouraging

Another great book by Sally Clarkson! Life can hit us like a rogue wave, and with her gentle spirit, Sally provides us with the hope we need to help us get through. Filled with subjects like marriage, parenting, fear, broken expectations, and busyness, this book will resonate with everyone, no matter your circumstances. I enjoyed the scriptures, quotes, and prayers in the book as well. Highly recommend!
