Ratings & Reviews+

Holly & Martin Hagio Computer Desk in Black is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock solid for ages ... Once set up, this is a very sturdy desk that I will handsomely accent your home for a long time. That being said, prepare for two hours to set it up. Taking your time to do it right is worth the patience. Once done right it has a solid feel that doesn't have a hint of wobble to it. It weighs less than 50 lbs so you can easily pick it up to move it. The wood is dense and stained to a dark cherry hue that is almost black. The top is very generous and set at the perfect level for work with a unique backboard which reduces glare. It doesn't have shelves/drawers but is so deep you can easily place storage bins without crowding your feet. The classic A-frame legs are not only attractive but very well balanced and open for activity. The packaging/instructions are well thought out with each part/board lettered so you don't have to sort them or wonder if you are using the right piece. Here are a few tips to help you along the way. Have a flashlight handy or window with sunlight to make sure the nuts and screws align. When tightening "cam locks" turn them 90 degrees and then no more than 45 degrees to lock so they don't break. That rule works well with screws so once they feel tight give them another 1/4 turn. Wait until the desk is complete before covering the holes with the covers in case they require further tightening. Figure 5 shows the apron/legs upright but it is much easier to assemble with the apron down like in figure 6. When attaching the base to the top the center beams shouldn't wiggle when the screws are tight enough. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from holly & martin Hagio desk received my package all in excellent condition. it is a very heavy unit. the insides were protected by 2 layers of thick foam sheets and each corner had corner bouncy type foam in the shape of corners to protect the corners during shipping, since it is a very heavy desk, it needs that optimum protection. tip#1 only score the taped edges of the box so that you can use the full cardboards, reshape at least 1 of them and use them for a top on the desk to keep it from getting scratched. you could also covee the cardboard with a contact paper or other material for looks. plus since this is a BLACK DESK, you may want to add some brighter color onto it since the darkness tends to swallow up some of the brightness of the room. assembling. at first appearance, since there didn't seem to be that many pieces/parts, I figured this should be simple and quick to put it together. but it wasn't. I actually had a ex employee of Walmart assembling it while I helped. his previous job included assembling furniture and other items in the back room. he had some negative comments about the assembling process. one MAJOR issue was the CAM BOLTS. these were made of very cheap material, not steel, and when you turned them, before they would even tighten, they would split apart. we lost 2 cam bolts due to this issue. I was going to notify the maker/company who made this product because I know they would send replacements. but this is is it went... the cams were for the assembling of the top of the legs to a cross piece. so I had the man only put 2 in the one side and continue. even with just the 2 cam bolts, the legs were still very sturdy(1 on each side of the same leg). but what made the entire set up strong and sturdy was when you put on the 2 long braces that go underneath the table that run the whole length of the table. they also help support the huge 2" foot by 4 foot desk top. by the way, the actual height of the desk is a comfortable 29" inches(tall). by the time that desk top was added, that desk was as solid as a rock. I know a lot about weight, and this desk can easily hold amounts in excess of 300 pounds, if you needed it to do that. STORAGE comes to mind. many of you craft and artist people out there could make good use of this desk to not only store rolling carts under it, but to support carts on top(without wheels attached of course), since rolling carts tend to bend if there is too much weight on them if they are piled up high. or the desk is plentiful wide enough to have a cart under it on each side of you with all your supplies and the middle open to pull your chair up to it to do your crafts, and have so much room on top of the desk for more supplies. oh, and this desk is NOT chipboard. its a very dense pressed wood. and it has a laminated plastic type veneer over all the pieces. the plastic veneer is a little touchy as we accidently chipped some off in 2 different places. but if that happens, either glue it back on, or just use a black permanent marker to cover up the white undercoating of the plastic. the desk is worth the enduring patience needed to assemble this desk.
