My Honeywell thermostat is wonderful

This thermostat is compatible with my existing heating and cooling system which has 5 wires ( Y, RC, R, G, W). I have no problem with installation but I confused with device set up and I have to do it twice.
Overall I am very pleased with this device.

Very Easy to install and work well

Contrary to another review here, I had no problems replacing an old thermostat with this product. I have an older system, and the previous thermostat was difficult to read. I had no trouble at all with installation, took me about an hour, and the product works great! Easy to read, logical and user-friendly setup, works great.

I purchased this to replace a Honeywell VisionPro 9000 thermostat whose touch screen had failed. My HVAC system is a conventional high efficiency split system with 2-stage gas heating and 1-stage cooling. Although it worked very well for 11 years (until suddenly it didn't), the VisionPro setup (installed by the system contractor) was extreme overkill for this relatively straightforward system.
The T5 (RTH8560D) unit has all the features I needed or wanted. I replaced the existing 4-conductor thermostat cable with 8-conductor cable, and after disconnecting all of the old thermostat and Equipment Interface Module (EIM) wiring, I connected the T5 to the furnace terminal board.
The unit is very easy to wire, and there is plenty of flexibility in the settings for most any type of HVAC system. Programming is straightforward, pretty intuitive, and easy to do (although it does take a few minutes to do the schedule programming. The thermostat schedule programming allows for the typical four periods per day, and you can easily select 7-day, 5+2 day, or 5+1+1 day scheduling. The screen is easy to read and easy to navigate (a big improvement over my old stat). Screen brightness is adjustable if you connect a C-wire from the system. Doing this will also configure the batteries to be used for backup power only.
The T5 handled all of the heating and cooling functions as well as the old VisionPro did.  No, it's not WiFi-capable, but I never needed that in the past, and I still don't have any need for it now. My biggest problem with programmable thermostats has been that once set up and programmed, I tend to mostly forget about them as long as they are doing their job. I really don't need WiFi for that.
Just FWIW, I do commercial HVAC system design every day - that's a big part of my job. I leave the nuts and bolts of control systems integration and design to the tech experts in the field, but I still need to tell them how everything needs to work. This is a very versatile and capable control device for most residential HVAC systems. For the (retail big-box store) price I paid, it's a great value, and I am completely satisfied with it.

Easy Install, works great

I bought this T5 to replace an 18 year old Honeywell programable that was beginning to show signs of age. This was easy to install (only have 2 wires on my forced hot water oil system), took about 15 minutes, and programming was pretty user friendly. Allows for weekday and weekend programming which was a feature I was looking for. Seen some reviews complaining about the temperature reading being off, haven't experienced that personally, and if so I would just set to my comfort level and be done. I do not have a C-wire so utilize the four batteries for power, so far so good. Learning curve for use is not steep, after a few minutes of playing around had it figured out. Looks more modern (and smaller) than the old one, happy with the purchase/

Nice thermostat

Bought these to replace a pair of T3s.  The T3s cycled my furnaces too frequently.  The T5s are programable to set the number of cycles per hour.  Also ran a C wire and now I have a gentle night light as well.

Replacements for T3s

I am a veteran HVAC tech. I was able to program this all the way through without an installation guide. Most of the reviews I see are from people who did not know how to actually get into the setup section in the stat. From what I have seen and been able to do with this stat is incredible for the price.

Understanding your stat.

Quality unit with clear install instructions.  Small footprint replaces my much larger and yellowing old Honeywell thermostat.  However, this T5 reads the temp higher than actual by about 2 degrees.  That is a problem because my programed heat range is only 3 degrees which is very misleading for us and we must keep another thermometer nearby for the actual inside temp.  Complicates programing too because the temp error has to be accounted for.  Other Honeywell thermostats have temp offset features, even the simplest manual units have temp trim screws.  That missing feature cost the T5 2 stars and any product recommendation from me!

Terrible Thermostat. Consistently reads 2 to 3 degrees low from multiple external thermostats. No way to adjust or calibrate this unit. 

Also, the cycles per hour feature seems to not work at all. Why have a cycles per hour is the unit is just going to switch on ad off every 10 to 15 minutes anyway? Skip this thermostat and go with one that actually works and has the features you need.

Who approved this terrible design?

Extremely poor design

While setting up the settings before any install found the display reading inaccurate. Compared with the reading on the digital Hunter that it is replacing. Replacing the Hunter due to faulty A/C circuit in the circuit board. Thought I would try this one due to the Hunter model is no longer made. Used the same calibrated digital thermometer in the picture I use on HAVAC systems to check readings at the Hunter and both readings match. Read reviews on this Honeywell model and found that tech support advised another customer that they will read 4 degrees off which is unsatisfactory with any product. Also found another customer with temp readings inaccurate and using a separate thermometer to control temperature settings. Also found that the cycle settings for the A/C is 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off with different setting for the max number off times it will cycle with in an hour only. Do not need it cycling on/off every 10 minutes like another customer issue has. Put product back in the box to send back and looking for another thermostat likely a newer version of a Hunter due do reviews found so far on this site for other models. My A/C is still working just can not lock the Hunter thermostat on to the wall plate causing a faulty connection.
