I purchased the Vision Pro 8000 with RedLink a month ago along with the RedLink adapter and the room temperature sensor which none of them work. I was told that the RedLink adapter would work in place of the C-wire, but it never worked (so I am returning both of them). As far as the thermostat, it's just okay (probably because I can't connect it to the RedLink adapter). I wish I had purchased the Emerson Sensi-lite thermostat instead, as it works (remotely) without the need for the C-wire.

This is the best thermostat that Honeywell has come up with. I have installed dozens of these thermostats and have not had one failure.

It appears that several (many) people on this page have had issues with the thermostat which are relate to improper set up or programming. This product as well as most items related to an HVAC system are not DIY items.

Reading over the issues that others have had only proves that to be true. This product is not like screwing in a light bulb. In order to maximize efficiency of your HVAC system, you need to hire a professional who know what he/she is doing to set it up correctly for your type of system. Not doing so will cost you more in inefficiency and possible damage to your HVAC system.

So please do yourself a favor and get it done right the first time and avoid the frustration. The money you think you are saving will cost you more in the long run.

Th Best Thermostat

To RSIT: I had the same problem. Even when the thermostat called for one degree of rise and it was warm outside, the thermostat used Aux Heat, at unneeded expense. It's a programming issue. I see by your photo that you have an outside temp sensor, which is needed to remedy this issue. This is how to fix it: In your installer programming, there is an Aux Heat Lockout setting. Input 40 degrees. That will prevent Aux Heat from coming in above that outdoor temp. The result is that the thermostat will have a heating cycle with normal recovery and no Aux Heat. Below 40 degrees outside, you will still have Aux Heat supplement the heating.

Stop Aux Heat from Coming In Unnecessarily

I am a 39 veteran of the HVAC industry. I can tell you from extensive experience that the Honeywell line of thermostats are the best on the market. I have tried other brands and most of them are junk. Some are so over engineered that the customer can't use them or program them properly. Even worse, they are overpriced on top of that. I have had 2 of these VisionPro 8000 thermostats on the wall in my home since they were introduced to the market in 2004. Do the math, that's a long time. I find that the biggest problem with a lot of ( smart ) or programmable thermostat is user or installation error. Not product error. I recommend to customers it is better to stay basic and do the homework. I.e. read the owners manual. Honeywell has been making thermostats since 1906. They have it figured out.

Honeywell is the best period

Good thermostat except for one problem. We live in a 2nd floor Condo. When the A/C set temp is reached the unit continues to run for 2 to 4 hours continuously. To stop the overcool I set the temp up 2 to 3 degrees higher and hit temporary hold. Wait a few minutes and cancel hold. Then the A/C goes into normal cooling cycles. Not very efficient.

Overcooling feature

Had this for a few years. Love adjusting it from my iPhone. Here's the problem: When I set it to “cool to 72 degrees at 7pm,“ I want it to start cooling at 7pm and run till it reaches 72.  Noooo, it's too  “smart.”  It tries to ARRIVE at 72 degrees at 7pm, so it starts cooling hours earlier based on what it has “learned” about how long my house takes to cool.  My electric rate triples from 2:00 - 7:00pm to discourage peak A/C use, so it's costing me big money. I constantly battle to outwit it's smartness, but it keeps changing its “lead time.”  If it had a “don't anticipate” setting it would be perfect. Without such a setting, it's an expensive nuisance.

Honeywell TH8110R1008 Thermostat
Battery replacement is not intuitive, I almost broke the unit trying to get it off the wall. So I watched a YouTube video that said just pull it straight off the wall, it must have been a different model because when I tried that the bezel came off and I still couldn't change the batteries. All the videos were for different models and I couldn't see a model number without taking it off the wall, a catch 22 situation. Eventually I saw a "PRESS" area on the top, it was not easy to press but after struggling I found that I had to press and pull back to get the top of the unit to detach, it was still attached with 2 slots in the bottom. Pulling it back disconnected the tiny connector and the unit was removable. So now I could easily change the batteries and now that I have seen how it works, it is easier to operate. Luckily I didn't break it trying to get to the batteries. Now I had the Model Number: TH8110R1008 from the back of the unit, so I went to the Honeywell site for a Users Manual but there were none, only Installation Guides for a slew of thermostats with all different titles but not mine. I eventually found a Product Information sheet for my thermostat with instructions on how to change the batteries but what an uphill battle. After an extensive search, I eventually found a 72 page User Guide on reside.com.

Difficult battery replacement

I got stuck with this thermostat from my installer without the ability to replace it with something better like an Eco bee (Radio connection between devices).  The biggest issue is that I cannot automate the temperature to match the discounts from my power company.  Sleep, wake, home, away is not granular enough for me.  A duke energy integration could be helpful (both eco bee and nest have this feature), but I would rather be able to schedule things like lowering the AC 30 minutes before peak pricing then bump it up when peak pricing starts.

Automation and programing are lacking

This is our first heating season in our house, equipped with a heat pump and a Honeywell TH8320R1003 thermostat, professionally installed. When the heat comes on in the morning, it “always” uses Auxiliary Heat, which draws 5 times as much current as regular heat.  By “always”, I mean every single day. As others note, there doesn't seem to be a decent manual or support article for this thermostat.	We are finding that our heating actually uses less energy in a day if we don't program the thermostat – if it stays at the same temperature all the time, so Aux Heat isn't needed. A programmable thermostat is supposed to save energy. This one wastes it. I'm hoping Honeywell will either prove me a fool, by offering a simple way to keep Aux Heat from coming on, or recommend a more suitable thermostat.
