Hot Wheels Attaching Shark Escape

shop.mattel.com / fisher-price.mattel.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My little boy who is coming up 3 absolutely loves this. It's a bigger toy than I first thought which is great. It's made from
Stronger plastic than some toys so it's a lot better than most toys. Really impressed

Great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My kids loved playing with this hot wheel set. They loved the shark on it and the ramps as well. The only thing is they wished it had just a few more new cars to go with it. They have plenty of cars but for kids who don't, it doesn't come with many

Cool set

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great Mattel quality. Seems like a good quality toy and like it won't break easily. Its bigger than i thought. My son loves playing with cars and this is a great addition to his other sets. This can also be connected to other tracks.

Fun toy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We used this at our sons hot wheels birthday party! Many kids loved and played. We had so much fun that we didn't even take pictures this day! They loved the shark and the mouth opening and closing. We did add more cars, to make a full kit and traffic jam! Kept the kiddos attention for a good while.

We need a bigger one!

We were elated to get this toy on sale for my son's 6th birthday. There are a multitude of ways to enjoy this toy and it is sporadic and surprising with every car you drop down. the shark that is the centerpiece of this toy is designed very well and it's surprisingly versatile in its ability and use. Each time you release a car down the track you're not quite sure which way the shark will attack. there is even a place to set an additional racer that you can push by hand to have follow the initial car and hopefully get flipped into the shark's mouth by the bridge below. Our entire family enjoyed this and we would highly recommend it.

Surprisingly innovative and easy to assemble.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall a really fun toy for the kids, but it has some quirks worth noting before diving in.

The packaging was great. All recyclable and only two zip ties to hold the exposed shark head in place. Assembly equally good. We were able to do it in about 17 minutes, and the toy only has a few stickers that need to be applied as part of the setup.

The play set is entirely plastic, though the single car that was provided is metal and of the usual Hot Wheels quality. All of the other cars we tried worked with the unit without any trouble, except for really long vehicles that had trouble with the turns.

In active play, my kids like the toy. They think the shark looks a little mean, but that is the theme of the toy after all. They enjoy the overall design, and like to place some cars into the storage area. The elevator to get a car from the bottom to the top is somewhat stiff, and likes to hitch a bit at each storage level. We have some sets where the elevators are too loose, but we'd say this one is too tight. Seems like a tricky thing for manufacturers to get right!

We do wish it came with a second car so that one car could be going while the first one was being reset. And, speaking of resetting, the kids have difficulty resetting the shark after it jumps. The issue seems to be that the latching that holds the shark head down is present at the back/neck of the shark. But, being kids and given how the toy works, they want to push down on just the nose of the shark to reset it. As such sometimes when they push the shark down to reset it just snaps right back up again. The toy is rated 4+ and my daughter is currently 6 and struggles with this a bit.

Another thing is that the shark eats the cars a LOT. It is not unusual to go 4+ tries in a row without getting past the first obstacle with the shark eating the car every time. So if you get one of these, just know that the shark is hungry and cars getting to the bottom happen was less frequently than them being eaten.

One nifty trick my daughter did find was that if the car gets to the bottom of the track successfully, the road will pop up to hold/trap the shark. At that point you can then leave the road popped up and use the play set as a race track. You can place the cars at the top and just let them rip down the ramps and across the bridges which is also good fun.

For parents there are two other issues to contend with. The first is that the play set is somewhat loud. Between the cars rolling down the tracks, the shark jumping more often than not, and then everything being reset each run, this is not a toy that you're going to want to put out with a light sleeper in the next room. The other issue is size. As assembled the toy is 21L x 10W x 19H, and it cannot be collapsed or disassembled. You're going to have to store it pretty much as it is somewhere.

All in all the kids are enjoying the new toy, have gotten creative in its use, and it's holding up to their play. A few little issues, but overall recommended!

Fun Toy With A Few Quirks

We got this as a birthday gift for our 4yr old and he loved it. The set is easy to assemble and has 3 switches that control when the shark pops out. And I think this is where Hot Wheels made the shark activation unnecessarily confusing. What I mean is, it's not clear in which order the switches need to be operated to get the shark out - at least for a 4 or 5yr old. But otherwise, this a good looking, fun Hot Wheels set.

Fun But Wonky Play Mechanics

Mattel Consumer Services

Bought this for my son and by the next day the shark no longer snapped up to eat the cars. The instructions were no help for fixes and couldn't find anything online.

Broke after one day
