The KVM was very easy to install and use. Even a non-techy ought to be able to install and use it. I like the toggle button that can be positioned conveniently and I really like that I don't have to remember another cryptic key combination. So now I can have my old reliable Linux box and the new Windows 7 machine running at my desk. I'm quite pleased.

I work from home, and I got tired of having 2 monitors, 2 keyboards, 2 mice. I had to move them around to work, then to check personal emails over lunch break and at the end of the day. I now can use my same monitor, keyboard, and mouse for both computers. Simply hook everything up. The directions are easy to follow. There is no software to install. There is one button to press to toggle between the 2 computers. Very slick. Result = much cleaner desk.

Great Experience

This is a terrific device. I hooked it to my Dell Desktop with XP and my Dell Laptop with windows 7 and the Desktop worked if the laptop was on or off or in sleep mode and the laptop also worked with the desktop on or off or in sleep mode. This Iogear KKVM had no audio connectors and I expected there would be no sound on the laptop but both devices had sound I suspect due to the laptop internal sound source. At first I could not get my normal screen resolution on my 17" LED monitor as the monitor auto adjust kept setting the resolution lower. I then set the desktop to its normal 1366 X 768 setting and restarted the computer and it retained the correct setting. On the laptop it took a little tweaking as the laptop maximum was 1280 X 800 but I got the best result at 1280 X 720( restart the laptop) which gave excellent resolution on the laptop screen and pretty good picture on the monitor. From where I had the laptop positioned the VGA cable reached fine to the laptop VGA port on the left but came up short when attempting to connect the USB keyboard and mouse connections on the right side. I could have moved the laptop but instead I connected the K and M to a USB hub with a 12" cable that was already attached to the laptop. I was worried this might not allow the keyboard and mouse to work from a hub but they worked just fine. This KVM suited my needs perfectly and maintained great picture quality on both devices and sound on both devices. Highly recommend.

Performed better than expescted!

This KVM works out of the box. Used it with Windows XP and 7 computers. but the OS should not matter. Works with a wireless mouse.  The little switch to change control from one computer to the other is extremely handy and a much better solution than using hot keys on the keyboard. The wires are long enough to connect two computers placed under  a desk and put the control switch on top of the desk.

I bought this to replace my other KVM switch that used keyboard strokes to change between devices. When I bought a new mouse and keyboard combo, the old switch stopped working correctly.

This switch has a little button that works perfectly. I actually like the little button much better than the keyboard kind.

Great with cordless mouse/keyboard pairs

I am a ham radio operator and have many computers running 24/7 that are available to other radio operators on and off line. 4 computers means 4 monitors, mice and keyboards.
That is a lot of gear on the desk top. I found this switch some time ago and eliminated a keyboard, monitor and mouse. Worked better than I had expected. Lately one of the other monitors quit working. $90.00 to replace it or $20.00 for the switch. No brainer.
Less clutter on the desk and I am very pleased with this unit. Took 5 minutes to connect and worked first time.
YES I would recommend this.

A great tool for the computer user

I was so excited to find out there was a product (solution) out there to where i could work off of my home PC WHILE working on my work laptop simultaneously.

Purchase of KVM Switch: I went to another store (starts with a B and ends with a Y) and the exact same switch was twice the cost. I was discouraged because it was so costly, but then i went to Walmart and it was shockingly half the price.

My Issue: I bought a 24" monitor and wanted to be able to use it for both my home PC and my work laptop (with docking station), as well as use one keyboard and one mouse.

KVM Switch Solution: Use one USB keyboard, monitor and USB mouse to control two USB computers. My 24" monitor is an extension to my laptop, and main monitor for my PC. You can also use a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard if desired. To switch from one computer to the other i simply just press a button that extends from the KVM Switch. Simple to install. Simple to use. LOVE IT!!!!!

Something to Consider: I have an external back up. I can only plug it into one computer since the KVM switch does not have another USB port. I may consider a KVM Switch with another USB port so i can have access to my external back up simultaneously.

Solution to my Issue

This switch works well. It switches much more quickly than an old one I had from several years ago. Although the attached cables are likely convenient for many applications, in my application I'm not using the video part of the switch, so there's an extra cable hanging on my desk. So I would have preferred a switch box with connectors on it, rather than the cables. Otherwise I'm quite happy with it. A - having the option of a wireless activator button would be nice.

Works well; could be improved

Purchased my IOGEAR 2-Port USB KVM Switch in Sept2012 so that I could use 1 Keyboard, mouse, & monitor w/ 2 PC's: an HP Pavilion p7-1240 w/ Windows 7 Home Premium AND an e-machine AMDAthlon 64 w/ Windows XP Home Edition w/ SP3. My monitor is an IC Power LCD monitor. Happy w/ the purchase--gets the job done at better value than most of what's available. Both PC's hooked up fine and the toggling between the 2 PCs is prompt when I press the little button on the tiny corded "remote switch button." The screen resolution looks fine on my monitor. I discovered a few issues, however, which I just live with/work around. First, when I had both PCs on at same time and the HP Pavilion went to sleep on its own from disuse, I was unable to get the KVM to let me access it--It was still on, but I couldn't get the KVM switch to recognize it because it was asleep. I tried all kinds of things, pressed buttons, wiggled mouse, plugging/unplugging the attachments, and finally had to do a hard shutdown which I don't like doing cuz its hard on the machine. I've learned to not let either PC "go to sleep." Second, if i want to hear sound from one or the other PC over my monitor's speakers, I have to take the speaker line that come from my Monitor and plug it into the PC that I want the sound to come from, or else I have to listen over headphones from a front jack, but at least that is just 1 cord to plug/unplug rather than 3 different sets of cords. Third, contrary to IOGEAR's claim in their QuickStart guide that came w/ the unit-- they do NOT have "24/7" technical support. When I dialed the cust svc number, a recording explained their hrs are 8-5:30 PST (Mon-Fri). Final note--since there's no plug on this unit to share a printer between 2 pcs, & my printer is only hooked to one of the two PCs I save stuff from the one that isn't hooked up onto a flashdrive and print from the one that is hooked up, but it would be nice to get a routing switch of some sort later for the printer that will let me print from either PC; I don't want to spend the money on that now.
