The Barbie Inspiring Women Series pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time; courageous women who took risks, changed rules and paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before. Despite being born into slavery in 1862, Ida B. Wells became a pioneering journalist and outspoken activist for civil rights and women's suffrage. She co-owned and edited a Memphis newspaper where she courageously wrote about inequality affecting African-Americans. In addition, Wells (later known as Wells-Barnett) co-founded the National Association of Colored Women's Clubs and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Sculpted to her likeness and wearing a traditional blue dress with lace details, this collectible Barbie doll honors Ida B. Wells' courageous activism and remarkable accomplishments. Doll stand and Certificate of Authenticity included. Doll cannot stand alone. Colors and decorations may vary.

The Ida B Wells Collectible Doll is beautiful and the attention to detail is great! The doll's coloring is good, which is a plus because Mattel has been hit or miss in recent years with people of color dolls. The newspaper is a nice touch, and her dress is in sync with that time period. Love it!

Beautiful Doll, Great Coloring

walmart.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The details on this doll are beautiful. The dress looks like a dress that was worn during that time period. I love the fact that she is holding a copy of a newspaper. There. seems to be a stand that she can be propped up on. This piece will be added to my current collection of dolls.

A Mastepiece

This was a surprise for my daughter for Black History Month and arrived sooner than expected. She absolutely loves it! So grateful that you stock diversity.

Nothing but good!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My girls absolutely loved this doll so much! She's beautiful and it was perfect timing, as my older daughter was learning about her in class during a unit on Women's history! Her clothing and accessories are well made. I am so happy for my girls to play with a doll of such a trail blazing and influential woman!

Beautiful historical doll!

Mattel Shop

The doll is a well-done replica of this woman who is an inspiration to young girls for so many of her accomplishments. Her dress was amazing and it would be fun to have a few more outfits from that time period. I did purchase a book about her life to accompany my gift.

Ida B Wells was and is top-notch

I'm so glad you all started shipping these dolls in better packaging. It wasn't the best but it was better a box would have been better. Persons don't mind a little more to ensure their doll reaches them in in good condition. In past I have had return the dolls because they were not shipped in the proper packaging. These are dolls for collectors they will not be opened and play with. Please keep this in mind when you are shipping dolls that will/are for collectors. Also when they are returned damaged. Who pays for that? The customer through higher prices. Ship it right the first time. Place the dolls in a box to ship it packaging you would use to ship a jump rope. Of course it will get damaged.

Great concept, the box is well designed, good choice of inspirational figure. The dress is high quality, with the plastic it comes in you can easily pose her with the newspaper prop, the stand works and keeps her upright even if you move it or a cat bumps into it.
Personally I got this item on sale so it doesn't bother me, but the printed on hairline doesn't go all the way back to the real hair so you can see a gap of skin tone, as well as the printed hairline being much lighter than her real hair. If I had purchased this at full price I would have been VERY disappointed so I rated it lower because it would not be $50 value. For the price I purchased this for, it was reasonable.

Good for $15 but NOT $50

The hair on the doll was painted. Not well put together.

Historical figure did not live up to its namesake

I wish I had read other reviews. I have majority of the Inspiring Series COLLECTOR dolls. They always arrive in boxes from other sellers. I was so happy to get the delivered text. When I walked on my porch I saw a plastic bag by door and immediately knew it was all bad, and it was. Bessie was basically out of the fully opened on both ends box. I slid her back in and the box was bent at the ends. Never has this happened with your two-day competitor.

Horribly packaged! I bought this, Bessie Coleman and the Rosa Parks doll with the intention of collecting them and keeping them in the box but they arrived damaged. They were shipped in the plastic envelope type packaging. Just a plain flat envelope not even the one with bubble wrap. One of them even had some of the tape part attached to the box so when I opened it, it ripped part of the box off! The Bessie Coleman was only one shipped in an actual box and it was fine. I even ordered a second Rosa Parks and same thing! Walmart really needs to be more careful with packaging these as they are collector items.

Horrible packaging!
