This unit earned its purchase due to the performance of a previous unit that just fell victim to age, 10 yrs. The new unit was very easy to connect, same as the previous unit with one major exception. The copper supply line on the new unit is shorter so that to mount it where the previous unit was I needed to purchase a coupler and cut and reuse a length of tubing from the unit I removed. Other than that it was a simple installation.

Replace a previous Insinkerator hot water dispenser

This is my second Insinkerator hot/cold dispenser that I have installed along with the matching filter. I've had the first one for over 10 years and it has worked flawlessly the whole time. This system is easy to install, delivers good water flow, and filter changing is a snap. I much prefer this system with the Insinkerator filter over the reverse osmosis systems with their multiple filters and giant pressure tank, and the fact that they aren't able to deliver hot filtered water, unless you pair one of those with the Insinkerator hot/cold system.

Well designed

We have had an InSinkErator Instant Hot Water Dispenser for over a decade and the new replacement is better with a greater flow of water and better control over the water temperature. The handle is more solid and secure than previous one. I love my "hot shot" and use it for many things--making a cup of tea, filling pots for quick boil, sterilizing fruits and vegetables, and cleaning pots and pans [hot pans rinsed with cold water causes bent wobbly pans and also boiling water cleans stuck on grease easier]. I use it many times throughout the day. LOVE IT!
The install got an average because the recommended vendor installer threw up his hands because of the increased size of the new model could not be installed it behind the garbage disposal where the previous model was located. Luckily, I had a plumber come and he creatively switched our cold-water dispenser with the hot water (dah) and fit it on the other side under our sink. Sometimes it takes a problem solver to solve a problem. LOL

Love my InSinkErator Instant Hot Water Dispenser

We have become spoiled and couldn't imagine living without this product. But we have had to replace the handle assembly 3 times soon after the warranty expired. They say there is no way to repair a leaky faucet so we have accepted that every 3 1/2 years we will have to pay about two thirds the cost of a new unit to replace the handles. Just the cost of enjoying this unit.

Once purchased you will be unable to live without it

Our old Franke Instant Hot Water System failed for the 3rd time so we decided to try an Insinkerator model on our plumber's recommendation. He installed it - wish the electrical cord to plug in under the sink was a bit longer because it just barely reaches to where the electrical outlet us there - but otherwise it went fine. We find the pressure handle a bit difficult to use but it works fine. It is behind the hot water dispenser faucet and you have to apply a fair amount of pressure pushing the handle back to get the water to come out. That is our biggest detractor for this system. Otherwise, it is a good one.

Insinkerator Instant Hot Water Dispenser System (HC-View) a good product

Arizona builders do not insulate hot water line and run them through concrete so hot water takes 5 minutes. We use our inSinkErator a lot for everything from making jello right from the tap to instant coffee. Using the small side of kitchen sink, we can get warm water to wash smaller load of dishes. Need longer copper line. Previous inSinkErators had about 4 more inches.

This is our 4th but This time copper line too short and we had to hire plumber.

This product would be given a higher rating if the manufacturer hadn't shortened the copper tubing from the faucet to the water line. I was replacing a 10 yr. old hot water dispenser but ended up not being able to replace the dispenser spiket/handle since the tubing was way shorter than my old tubing. Insinkerator did a poor job of making the replacement easy by cutting corners.
The new motor works great, however!

Installation replacement

Installing this is a bear. I'm pretty handy and it still took me four trips to the hardware store to get the right fittings and connectors. The design decision to have copper tubing as the supply tube instead of a braided hose is presumably cheap and keeps the price down, but makes it deeply awkward to connect, and it's entirely possible you could kink the tube in the process. There are no connectors in the box to connect to your under-sink pipes; you're entirely on your own.

The first unit I installed, after a few hours of work, never produced water above 140F. To the company's credit, when I called the 800 number they gave me a local repairman to call who came and swapped it out the next week, but that's not a great experience.

Once it's installed, it does pretty much what it says on the box. It claims to produce water at 210F at the maximum, and mainly I'm seeing water at about 205F or so. If you're using it to make coffee or green tea, that's fine. If you're using it to make black tea, you'll want to boil that water, which won't take long, but it's an irritating step to need. (This is nothing like the European hot water dispensers which actually produce boiling water, in case you were hoping for that; it's just hot.)

After a few months of use, the hot water continues to have a distinctly metallic and not very nice taste, which is disappointing. The water dispensing spout doesn't come out very far, so if it's installed in the corner of your sink (as will be the case for many people) it's hard to use it to put hot water in a pot to make pasta, for example, or fill a teapot to warm it, because you can't get the pot close enough to the spout. 

This still seems to be the best permanent installed consumer unit available in the US for solving the problem of instant hot water, but I still can't say I'm not disappointed.

Once it's finally installed it makes nearly hot enough water

We love the convenience of the instant hot appliance. However, they come with a 3-year warranty and I have had 3 different InSinkerator instant hots over the years with each lasting only about 4 years before they stop working. After the first failure it was suggested that I add InSinkerator's cartridge filter to the water supply side. While I continue to use the filters, the hot water appliance still has failed about every 4 years.

Very convenient appliance while it lasts

This product is for lazy people like me. The problem is the quality, my experience is that the unit only last 12-18 months. The company offers replacements at half price. But when you compare the cost of having instant hot water to waiting 60 seconds for the microwave. If money is not a problem I highly recommend this.
