Ordered this unit to go in a new kitchen sink; had this no-switch type in my old sink and loved that safety feature.   Unfortunately, the new unit was too tall to connect properly to my old plumbing.  It looks to me like they engineered the switch version and literally added the cover-activated unit on top of the switch-activated version, rather than integrate it (as my old unit had been).  I had to buy a switch-operated unit to work under my sink and must return this one. The switch operated version is literally 4 inches shorter and was easily connected to my existing plumbing.

I've been a plumber for 45 years, and practically had a love affair with Insinkerator over the past few decades. I just purchased two Pro Cover Control garberators for two of my customers. My resent purchase has soured that affair.  The Pro series when it first came out was for plumbers only and the old Evolution Pro Cover Control was already assembled came complete with the cord and basically installed itself it was so easy and came with an amazing "in-home" warranty (which it still does). Now, this new model is a nightmare to put together, with a split ring that you need a third hand to hold while you install a plastic extension which is now going to make the outlet of the garberator lower than most drains that connect most double sinks. I think this is a monumental fail by Insinkerator. I may have to look for a different manufacturer if this isn't rectified very quickly. I would love a reply from insinkerator.

Working great.  Relatively easy to install took about 2-hours.  The one I had before lasted at least 15-years.  I like the insert cover to start less danger of losing fingers.  No ugly switches or buttons.

Safe Garbage Disposal

I just replacement by Cover Control Insinkerator after 10 years. It worked great and I had no problems so I replaced it with the Evolution cover control plus. The major design change was the base of the cover control stopper was made of plastic and after 6 months of use it cracked and the handle broke off and the base stuck in the sink. I am not a happy camper. The disposal other than the control stopper is a great buy.

Extremely Poor quality Cover Control Stopper

After "using" this product for about 3 months, I finally came to the realization that I'm choosing not to use it... Not because of anything other than the fact that I can't stand the process of having to remove the dirty baffle every time I want to grind up my waste. I find myself choosing to scape everything into my trash, instead of using the disposal.

In my previous kitchen, I installed a similar style insinkerstor where you didn't have to change the baffle. Why would they change to this design with the filthy extra step?

Insinkerstor is still the best in the market, but they really missed the mark on this product. At the end of the day, I really can't believe that this is the best thing they could have come up with.

Get the traditional designed grinder with the ugly air switch, you'll be happier and will actually use it.

Frustrated.

I've had my Evolution series with cover control in operation in my home's remodeled kitchen since early 2007. No complaints about the mechanism, but it begs for a lemon or lime wedge once a week to keep odors away.

My woe has been with the wonky-shaped and weak plastic construction of the magnetic stopper/switch-control. I'm almost on my third one. The magnets eventually break out of their embedded plastic housing, making the stopper too snug to fit in the drain-neck switch.

At $40 a-pop every two years-or-so, it starts raising the lifecycle operating costs to that of a complete new appliance.

Worth the little bit of extra money

This unit replaced an Insinkerator that was about six years old. Both the old and new ones had the magnetic stopper design. I like the feel of the old one much better than the new one. The new stopper feels clunky as I rotate it to find the On position and it is slightly difficult (finicky) to find that right stopper position. With the old unit, it was a smooth rotation and definite stop at the end to turn it on. Also I don't like that the little flaps that partially closed the opening at the sink have been removed. Now the sink opening is totally open so one can see the inside of the Insinkerator.

Could use some design improvements

Liked the unit and appreciated the safety cover control. That prevents operation if the cover is not installed completely preventing any operation while the drain is open or uncovered.

The geometry change cause by the additional 3 inches of the collar needs to be considered to make sure both the cabinet depth and the cross over alignment of the drain pipe will work. That is because the side drain of the unit also drops between 2.5 and 2.75 inches. The installation therefore will take some additional plumbing work and small parts to allow replacement of a non collar/control cover unit.

Sturdy unit, quiet operation, safety cover control is great

I had to replace an older Insinkerator and this model was the closest to it that didn't require any modifications. It's heavy and hard to lift into place during installation, but after successfully completing, it was well worth it. The top of sink components used to operate are much more attractive and well made. Looks and works so much better. Very pleased with outcome.
