I had one before this, but at 17 years old, it started spitting out hot water at me. Not wanting to be boiled alive, I decided to get another one. The old one was also an Insinkerator. I love these things!

Best thing since sliced bread!

Well built unit bought as a replacement for an older similar unit. Unit was well packaged but the metal washer to secure the faucet was too narrow in diameter. The copper supply line could have been an extra three inches. No ferrule or nut was included with the product. After unpacking the new unit, a trip to the plumbing was required to purchase a roll of 1/4 inch copper tubing plus a brass ferrule and brass nut.

Nicely made product. Missing a few things

We our on our third insinkerator hot water dispenser in 14 years. We seem to have a leaky tank every 4-5 years. We use it a lot and can't be without one now though :) It can also be loud when it is heating up. Each evolution of the product has gotten a little better, but still wish it would last longer. The wood bottom under our sink can't take much more of the leaks that go undiscovered for weeks.

Can't be without...but loud, and tank doesn't last

We replaced a Hot1 that had died. The main issue is that it requires a bigger hole for the faucet. I had to spend about a half hour with a drill and a grinding stone enlarging the hole in a granite counter top. Otherwise, the installation was fairly smooth. The faucet quality is much better, and the valve is regulating cold water into the tank rather than hot water out. This should make it last a lot longer. I would like to see more insulation in the jacket. It lets a lot of heat out under the counter. Overall it is a definite improvement from a Hot1.

Works well so far. Makes less noise that the previous model

We have used these instant hot water heaters for many years. Before the tanks were made from stainless steel, they would last only somewhat longer than their warrantee then spring a leak. Then we got one with a stainless steel tank that lasted almost ten years. We replaced it with the same model but that one lasted only 5 months before the heater died. We got a replacement under warrantee easily. We'll see how long this one lasts. But, there is no comparable product so we are hoping the previous problem was a quirk. These instant hot water heaters are convenient and useful. We really like them and depend on them. Very useful product.

There is no other option

I was really disappointed to learn, when I received the unit, that the drain plug in bottom of unit is no longer available. This means you have to uninstall the unit to drain the tank. For example: to clean out any contaminants like rust from pipes and to drain water to winterize in a summer home.

Their tech service did not know that my unit, gave them the serial number, had a drain plug when I was doing some trouble shooting for a leak.

There customer service, from a sales perspective, wasvery helpful in getting me a new unit. Of course no drain plug.

Missing an important and convenient old feature.

Of course the warranty was three years and the handle literally broke off the faucet in four years. Insinkerator's customer service was friendly and helpful in supplying other faucets that were compatible with what I had purchased, if I wanted to purchase a new one. However, their prices for purchasing just the faucet were $300-500+!!!!! I could purchase a whole new unit (water tank and faucet) for that amount! What is the deal Insinkerator????

Product only lasted 4 years.

The unit works well for a while, but there is apparently a spring in the handle that wears out, or a valve that goes bad, so it won't shut off completely. Unfortunately, the design does not allow those parts to be replaced, so the whole unit must be removed and a new one installed. Mine was still under warranty, so cost was not an issue, but it's not an easy install at all (and I'm definitely not a novice!) 

But if you over-tighten the nut under the sink, the handle won't shut off completely, even on a brand new one. That little fact is well hidden in the :"Trouble-shooting" guide. First, that doesn't make sense. It should be designed so it can be tightened, like any other faucet. But the Installation Instructions should also caution against over-tightening. (Why should it be able to move as I use it?) Seems like a very useful and handy product that needs some serious re-engineering work. Thankfully, the company is easy to deal with, and has no problem sending replacements.

Works Great - Until It Doesn't!

This is the 4th unit that I have installed in the past 20 years or so.The first 2 units eventually leaked. A replacement tank was sent and it was much better designed - it didn't leak but shorted - threw the GFI, The unit lasted for 7 years and after dissembling the unit found no rust in the tank. My first 3 units I kept the same faucet stem. 
This last unit I purchased with a different stem design - Although sleeker the installation was much harder - first the hole was too small for the new faucet by millimeters so sanding out the whole in the stone was required. They did provide a method for installing into a smaller whole but then the cabinet top cant be over a certain thickness, which I consider mine to be a standard thickness for stone counter tops. Next I had to deal with they way the faucet is held in place. The old faucet was attached with a horseshoe type ring on the bottom and once the screw from the top was threaded into the nut on the bottom you could adjust and tighten everything from the top. This new one required you reaching up from underneath the back of the sink. Should be an easier way. Lastly, the copper water line that is attached to the faucet was shorter than my previous model so I had to extend the line. I like the unit but what should have taken an hour or so to put in took a lot longer.

Good -But

I have had an instant hot for many years. We moved to a new house the end of April ( about 2.5 months ago) and the builder installed this model. It is constantly heating and making a rumbling sound. I have it turned to the lowest temperature and it heats to 150. I spoke with the support for the company and they say this is normal. I would like to be able to adjust the temperature better and turn off when we are out of town without unplugging.
I do like the faucet and controller.

The tank was replaced 2 times, the faucet started leaking caused the third tank to short, had to replace the whole unit, all in all a very inferior product.
My old insinkerator installed in 1987, lasted me for 25 years, it was still working when I changed it, when I remodeled the kitchen.
