Reception

First time hooking up the first of 2 antennas------did the  bedroom TV after removing cable--does not have cable box---followed steps with info/booklet from TV and have plenty of TV stations to pick from----and the color/picture is superior to that of cable.    Process very easy overall.  This TV is about 3 feet from a window and worked fine.   In a couple more days, disconnecting cable box from main TV and will hook up the 2nd indoor antenna.    I would recommend this product and in fact, my son's girlfriend said she has the same antenna and is happy with it also.

Winegard Fl550s Flatwave Amped Indoor HDTV Antenna

The antenna's thickness measures 0.02 inches.  In other words, it's a pretty thin piece of flexible plastic.  It also measures 12" x 13" so you can mount it in most windows, rather inconspicuously.  Just bought a VIZIO 1080p "Smart" TV.  The TV itself is very basic.  I just wanted a cheap TV to watch while I walked on a treadmill, but that's beside the point.  I was looking to maybe pick up a few channels. 

The room where I placed the Winegard Fl5500s Flatwave Amped Indoor HDTV Antenna is a subterranean family room with one small window.  

I first set up the new TV and, just for the fun of it, I hit "scan" with NO antenna attached.  As expected - no channels received.  Thereafter, I did connect the antenna, which took 10 minutes.  I followed the brief, VERY clear directions, hit "scan," sat back and waited.

35 channels!
AND EVERY ONE OF THEM IS CLEAR.
To be truthful, basic cable didn't bring in as many channels, nor as clearly.

My location:  you may not be familiar with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but the community itself is made up of many hills and valleys, especially in the suburbs which is where I live.  Reception is outstanding.

Cost: $54.99 + 7% sales tax - a $2.99 discount for pick up at Walmart.
Bottom line, out-the-door price:  $55.86

It doesn't look like much, but the technology is nothing short of outstanding.
I would highly recommend this antenna to a friend.

Finally, and with due respect, if you have basic cable, you're being foolish. 
I cut the cord two years ago.
I'll NEVER go back because of innovations like the Winegard Fl5500s Flatwave Amped Indoor HDTV Antenna.

By cutting that cord, you begin to make up for the cost of this antenna in the third month.

At first, I had my doubts ...

We were tired of paying high cable bills but we live in a deed restricted community and cannot have an outdoor antenna.  I spent LOADS of time researching how to "cut the cable."  We have streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, but I want my local news and networks.  The Winegard 5500 was highly recommended so I decided to give it a try. I live 33 miles from the TV stations in Tampa FL, so the range seemed right.  Unfortunately, my house is an attached villa with only 1 window that faces the right direction to receive clear signal, and that is in a front bedroom.  I hooked it up, the instructions were very clear and easy. I can't understand why some people thing they are not!  I had it up and running in 10 minutes.  The only reason it took that long was it had been so long since I had done a scan on the TV , I had to search for the "scan command."  I get 42 channels clear as a bell!  Of course some of them are PBS, shopping, and Spanish, but I get all 5 major networks and about 20 channels with lots of old shows that I love.  I couldn't get the same reception in my living room because it's just too interior, so I shopped for a deal on Fios and still cut my cable bill $80 per month.  I'm keeping the antenna because the reception is so clear in the bedroom and I think it might be good to have on hand if the Fios goes out. If I ever move, I will get a Winegard outdoor antenna, I think they make a good product.  I highly recommend this as long as you have a window in the right direction, or can run a cable through your attic to the interior room, which I can't do!

Lives Up to Expectations

Great antenna. Easy to hook up. Nice clear picture.

The antenna works fine, up to a point. Being secured to a picture frame, it is non-directional, and the number of channels it picks up is a little disappointing. For that reason, I thought about returning it, and continuing to shop, but decided it is fine, in the application I use it.

I would voice limitations in recommending this item to a friend.

Haven't hooked it up yet, but my dad has one. Does well for him

simple to connect, receives approximately 13 stations, of which 8 are worth keeping.  I attached to curtain rod via hanger as the window has a screen.

Free TV stations

I would purchase it with the idea you may have to take it back. I bought one and it worked great on one tv. Bought a second and it didn't want to work at all. Different brand tv different location.  I took it back because I had an old antenna that did the same for $40 less

Success of antenna depends on tv and location

Definitely a better antenna compared to those in the  $20.00 range.  I live in a building in the suburbs and could not get any antenna to bring in a station.  My broadcast towers are between 8 and 20 miles.  This antenna is doing a decent job.  Of course to get some channels during the day the panel must be hung in the window.  Even in the window a few channels that I get pristine during the night pixelate during the day.  I am going to keep this antenna for the spare room TV but will keep looking for a better performer.  If you are in a tough receive location definitely look for a make with better performance.  Consumer reports have some good reviews.

Better TV antenna than your $20 level but .....

I bought the Winegard Fl5500s Flatwave Amped Indoor HDTV Antenna in hopes of getting a better reception and to replace my very inexpensive antenna.  After installation and rescan of channels I found fewer channels and less stable reception.  I returned this antenna and replaced it with Mohu Leaf Ultimate 3 Antenna from Wal Mart and it worked a lot better. I now have more channels and a  stable signal.
