This adorable little Janome, "purple thunder" sewing machine made my 14 yr. old granddaughter grin as we opened the box... the color is so darling! She has not been intimidated by it in the least (whereas she is with my machines & the big Janome, I got for her...she has felt very hesitant). She jumped right in & started sewing with it & with the slow, steady speed, she was enchanted with her whole first sewing experience..The other great thing is that as she learns how to thread & wind the bobbins on her little purple machine, she can just naturally move on to the bigger Janome machine when she is ready without having to learn any new things.

I am an experienced sewer and quilter.  While my most recent sewing machine is a Bernina the one before this was a Janome that I loved.  I bought this machine for my 8 year old grand-daughter who has shown interest by 'quilting' a few table runners on my machine.  She made her first patchy pillow today and had a ball.  The machine sews quite nicely at a medium speed on full foot pressure so was perfect for her.  Next time she wants to try out the fancy stitches. (I tried a few without her to see how they sew and they also were nice.)

Great little sewing machine for a beginner

I was looking for a sewing machine that was simple to operate but had some special stitches to work with. Also, I was looking for a machine that could sew papers in my scrapbooking projects. I need a lightweight machine that is easy to store. So far, this machine has been just what I was looking for.

Cute, simple, and practical sewing machine.

I would give this machine a 5 star rating except for two issues I have with it. There is no light on the machine. This to me should be a given on all sewing machines, no questions, just expect it to be there. I did find a bendable light I can use directed at the needle for threading etc. The other issue I had is that the foot pedal is rather small. I have big feet so that doubled that problem however, this is one thing that will be easy to adjust to. This is a very, very basic machine and that's all that is expected from a machine at this low of a price. It is a Janome and that to me meant quality no matter how basic. I'm very happy with this machine.

great little machine for the price

I bought this on the advice of a friend who has grandchildren and wanted something basic to start them sewing. I chose purple as both my granddaughters love that color. The machine is very easy to use. My 4 1/2 year old granddaughter really loved it, and wants to show her friends how to sew! The only deficiency is lack of a light on the machine.

Good child's machine

I wondered if this would be more like a toy than a proper sewing machine. Since purchase, it has met all of my needs for altering and fixing clothes in my family. It is exceptionally light at 2 kg. , yet performs all of the functions, including seam binding stiches and button hole borders. I am very pleased with this portable machine. My only concern is the use of rather cheap, thin plastic for the moveable parts, i.e. bobbins, and the needle stage cover. What if these break? I foun the manual clear enough.

The perfect tiny machine

I purchased this machine for my eight year old granddaughter. This will be her first experience. Being an avid sewer, I tried the machine and found it to be a bit noisy. I put a piece of quilt batting under the base and it reduced some of the noise. The quality of the stitches is excellent. The deep purple color is spectacular, she will love it. I was disappointed that there was no light on the machine. You might need an overhead lamp. The size is about half that of a typical machine.

Good for a "starter" machine for a youngster

This is not meant for anyone that is serious about sewing. It is very small and at best would be for a child that might want to play at sewing. I returned it immediately after opening and seeing it was not
Suitable for making garments. It was going to be a Christmas gift for my 9 yr old great grand daughter.
The labeling states that it would be for a serious sewist or beginner. I don't think so.

Only a toy

I really had high hopes for this little machine!  It was a Mother's Day gift to myself, but I didn't get to try it until this past weekend!  It took me for ever to thread the needle, then each time I tried to sew, the thread would get all jammed up or just come out of the needle again!  After about four hours of threading the needle and attempting to sew, I finally gave up and will be returning it tomorrow!  Could have been a faulty machine, but I've decided to get a different model!

Love the color and size!

I bought this machine because I LOVE anything purple and the price was right since this machine is to be a second machine for me just for traveling to quilt class, retreats, workshops, etc. It is very light weight and just as cute as it can be, but not suitable for anybody serious about sewing. It is very loud and slow and clunky. It might be suitable for a child just beginning to learn to sew since the price is low, but most adults would want something much better, I suspect. I'll be returning it this week.

Not suitable for anyone serious about sewing.
