The John Deere Gator XUV is the perfect riding vehicle for your little helpers! They’ll drive around, hauling everything imaginable in their extra-large dump bed with opening tailgate. A front brush guard adds an aggressive look, plus the 2-speed shifter with reverse allows them to drive at 3.6 km/h or 7.2 km/h ( 2-1/4 or 4-1/2 mph) on grass, dirt or hard surfaces. I am very happy we purchased this Gator!! Between reading several disappointing reviews and a previous bad experience with a name-brand ride-on toy, I was very scared that I'd pay all this money only to have the Gator be a total bust… something break, not work properly, etc. However, I am thrilled to report that after two weeks of heavy use (and I do mean heavy— four kids at a time, up and down ditches, even an 8 or 10 year old driver at times), this Gator hasn't missed a beat!

Both can operate it well and prefer the faster speed setting. There is plenty of room for both to ride at the same time (ages 5 and 3). 
The 5 year old actually has more leg room on the Peg Pergo John Deere tractor, but he's slightly tall for his age. The boys run both of them nonstop for over 2 hours before it needs to be charged. The instructions frustrated my husband until we found a YouTube video. I highly recommend this for keeping them busy and happy but would but like I said earlier; the 5 (almost 6 year old has far less leg room than he does on the tractor which is smaller. The tractor is fast (on the higher speed setting) though so he doesn't mind driving it. The slower setting is highly recommended until they understand how to operate or if you have lots of things they can run into in your yard.

My grandsons love it!!

Was a Christmas present for the grandkids, my grandson loved it, he is 3 and tall for his age, so it fit him nicely, he was able to drive it without any problems, little sis along for the ride.  It is a nice child's toy . But in my opinion it is over priced and expensive for what you get, basically a plastic toy, no thrills bells or whistles, hope it holds up, but my grandson loved it , it made his Christmas.

Nice Christmas surprise

This was a Christmas gift for my children and they absolutely loved it! Assembly took about 2 hours. Walmart had the best deal. Very happy with this purchase!

Peg-Perego Gator

My 4.5 year old loves it!  Keeps him (and his brother) busy outside!

Pros:  Easy assembly (according to my husband)!  Well made for the most part.  Holds the battery charge pretty well (better than his twin brothers Ford F-150).

Cons:  I wished there were some real dashboard features, not just stickers.  Or that it had working headlights.  I also wished that there was more space between the seat and the dash.  My averaged sized  4.5 year old is a bit squished in it.

However, he loves it and so do we!

Great Purchase!!

Overall, the Gator is really great because its made well, is a perfect size for 2 avg size 4-5 yr old boys.  
Pros;
 -The battery lasts a really long time even in the cold temps we`ve been using it in.  The battery has lasted over an hour of constant use...we haven`t fully discharged the battery yet, so we do not know how long it will actually run.
-My son loves having a bed to drive around and put stuff in.  He drives around the yard to help me transport all of the sticks from the trees, puts toys, tools, dirt, etc. in it.  He even drives his pedal bike up to the school track to bike ride! 
-It is very easy for him to drive and operate.  
-It seems very durable so far as he runs over roots, rocks, and peels out quite a bit and the wheels do not seem to be wearing out too quickly and the parts seem to be holding up well.
-Seats 2 kids...my son is social and loves including other people.....many of the cheaper options are single seats or very small 2 seaters.
-Very powerful, almost too much torque....like whiplash start and stops in 2nd gear.

Cons:
If I were asked about things I do not like....there are a few, but the things I like outweigh the negatives;
-No lights or sounds, but that is fine, would drain the battery faster
-Very loud motor and the plastic wheels make it even louder on pavement
-Plastic wheels...why can we not get these with rubber or at least rubber coated wheels???
-Cup holder is too small....what size cup/bottle fits this thing???
-Instructions were worse than IKEA,  and Ive gotten really good with IKEA instructions....I am considered very handy and there were some parts that I had to just scrap the instruction and go with what made sense to get it to work with the materials I had left....they could do better with close up images and written instructions easily
-A battery switch shut-off so I can easily disconnect power so every kid in the neighborhood does not jump on it when my kid steps off.  Also would be nice so I do not get run down while installing the battery. Yes, I know I could tell my kid to get out until the battery is in, but the joy in his smile would also go away....I will just take my chances and probably install my own switch when it warms up.
-Spring shocks would be great.  Many of the cheaper vehicles have them, but maybe they are not very durable or something.
-A lot of torque on the starts and stops....a slow deceleration and start would be nice to keep the wheels from spinning or sliding and my kids head from jerking so much.....not going to lie, he kind of loves it and laughs so much, so this is not that much of a negative.
-Tailgate pops open a lot....bad locking mechanism...there really isnt one, so I will likely add something at some point.

Great vehicle, no regrets, lots of joy!

It's OK - of the 3 we purchased, this is the one that gets picked last consistently - I expected more with all I read regaurding this brand prior to purchase.  It works and it's a quality product - my kids are just not as interested in it as the other 2 we purchased (2 Kids aged 3 %26 5)

Unit is much smaller than portrayed in the site listing, barely big enough for a 3 to 4 y/o.  Everything is made from thin, flimsy plastic....not sturdy at all.  Even the bumper/brush guard on the front bends using just one finger.  Most parts on this Gator won't even support the weight or average use of a small child.  I don't expect this to survive the Summer before there's significant damage.  A consumer expects more from something labeled John Deere, especially for the price.  Not worth what we paid.

We bought this for our twin boys 4th birthday. It was easy to assemble and worked great initially. We have only had this toy a little over a month and it will not keep a charged. The boys do not even ride it anymore everyday and it is always adequately charged but it dies after a quarter of a mile. Such a shame
Because the boys love their Gator and it is such a cute toy. Definitely not worth the money! Do not buy.

Do not buy!

Looks pretty good. Doesn't drive well in the yard unless completely flat. Besides the bed in the back, absolutely no features - stickers where there should be lights, buttons, horn, etc. Not worth the cost, even on sale. Returned.
