This bin means no more recycling cluttering up my kitchen and freeing up worktop space with its integrated food waste bin. Only negative is I would have preferred that it had handles on the sides to help with moving it when you want to clean underneath.

Really useful recycling bin

This was recommended by a friend and didn't disappoint. The recycling element works very well for us and keeps worktops clear of stuff waiting to be taken out to recycling bins. Took advantage of the sale price with extra bin bags.

Great Product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My new Totem Max is great. It fits perfectly into my kitchen and is big enough to store all the recycling, paper and waste in a compact space. Easy to empty and keep clean.

Totem Max is ideal

Looks nice - tall so has a small footprint. Nice colours. Only problem is the food waste caddy. It's much too small for this size of bin. It's tall and thin and I would estimate less than half the capacity of the one we are supplied with by the local council. It needs emptying once a day which is a real pain. Also, while the main bin has a nice pop-up lid to keep it hands free, the caddy has a lid that you have to lift off each time. There is a notch underneath the caddy lid so that you can hang it on the side of the main bin when putting stiff in the caddy, but once the caddy is full of waste food the notch gets really mucky when the lid is on.

Overall I love the bin and no longer have recycling stacking up in the kitchen. The massive downside is the food caddy. The size is perfect for a small household but the lid would definitely benefit from an additional filter to eliminate unwanted food smells. Unless it's emptied every day, it becomes unpleasant and unhygienic I had a JosephJoseph counter top food caddy which I gave away in anticipation of the benefits of the Totum .... I wish I hadn't as I now need to buy another one

Design alteration needed

Bought this to replace original 48ltr Joseph Joseph totem bin after the lid button broke. We'd had that bin for around 8 years! Tried to get a replacement lid but no one stocks it anymore. 
Have to say this one is not as good. Feels very flimsy and unstable compared to the last one. Despite this being 60ltr there is no more room for waste than before. It seems the extra space is in the recycling part. The lid is also much less secure than the last one. If there's even the slightest bit of excess rubbish in the bin it keeps popping open, which is somewhat irritating.

Does the job, but not as good as older version.

The bin looks great and is compact but the lid has stopped opening fully after a couple of months, which I can mostly live with. My main issue is I lost the compost bin lid (the compost bin would be better if it was bigger by the way), I think it must have accidentally been thrown out with the rubbish. Whilst you can buy replacement parts for the old totem bins on the website there aren't any for the new ones. I contacted customer services asking if it would be possible to buy a replacement and I've been told they don't sell them. As these bins are still in manufacturing it seems ridiculous to me that I can't buy a spare part. With no lid on the compost bin it's going to be a huge issue with fruit fly when it gets warmer, and so the I'll have to go back to a separate compost bin, one of the key reasons I spent so much on the bin in the first place

Looks great but can't get replacement parts

After 2 weeks opening system began to show weaknesses and it s getting worse At this price this should never happen Conception issue ? Poor raw materials ? At least no quality control ... I red such comments befire buying but thought it was scarce ... apparently not

Poor quality

Bought the totem 40 not that kind ago. Expensive bin. One of the bins has now split. My husband dropped it. It split easily. I see that although they still sell my bin they do not offer spares. These are not cheap to buy.

Bin broken already

We have had the bin replaced three times now due to the spring lid mechanism breaking. Once the three year guarantee expires, the manufacturers will no longer replace the bin. I can only say that Joseph Joseph design for this product is poor and considering the price of the product, I don't think it is worth it. Take my advice and buy a bin from another manufacturer who know how to design and do not try to worm out of the guarantee like Joseph Joseph did with me.
