[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the second one that I have used for a 70 gallon water trough in minus degree weather. The last one lasted 3 winters. Very easy to take apart to clean after winter is over.

We use the 250 watt pond deicer in our horse trough. It keeps enough melted for the horses to drink, we are in Zone 7. This deicer requires little power and comes with a 12 foot cord, its eliminated the need for extension cords. Its worked well for our needs.

Works great for my 100 gallon stock tank pond. The fish love it, and here in southern WV the pond constantly freezes over in the winter even with a 300gph pump pumping the water.

I've tried other pond de-icers over the years and this one is the first that didn't give me any trouble at all.  The others would trip the electrical switch all the time.

The heating element remains about 3 inches below the surface and does not generate enough heat to keep the ice open above it.
The cord location caused it to flip on its side and it became frozen in the ice.
The overall design is poor. I replaced it with one that has a larger heating ring which has the electric cord coming from the top of the de-icer (which made it impossible to flip over).

Not suitable for temps below 20 degrees

Don't buy from this company and definitely don't buy this product. It doesn't work and we sent it back and haven't received a replacement. These people are terrible
