I bought the System Build 36" storage cabinet to supplement my storage space in my bedroom. I read alot of the reviews and felt that buying this unit would be a good deal. It definitely was a very good unit to buy. The unit was shipped to my home via Fed Ex and arrived just a few days after I placed my order. Upon opening the box and inspecting the separate pieces I found that one of the doors had a crack approx. 3" long in the material that is used as the coating on the unit. I immediately called the System Build Customer Service and advised them of the crack. The contact with the customer service rep. was outstanding, the young lady asked me for model # and part # and advised me that another door would be shipped out immediately--it was that easy. Just a few days later I got a new door. I am extremely happy with my new cabinet from System Build as well as the customer service extended by this company. I highly recommend this storage unit from Walmart, it was easy to put together and it looks real nice.

Overall, this is a great product and Walmart did a great job of getting this to me way sooner than I expected. The product was very well packaged with reinforced corners down the entire length of the box on all sides.

As for the product itself I had 3 issues with it - the first one was with the screws that would NOT turn in the hinge face plates no matter what I tried (this resulted in a call to the Ameriwood Help # and a new set of hinges sent to me - which with some effort I was finally able to get them to turn in the hinge face plates and attach to the sides.)

The other issue, was more of a disappointment in finding out that the back of the cabinet consists of just a piece of heavy duty cardboard that you nail on. I thought that this cabinet would be more of a free-standing piece of furniture. However, the cardboard back does not provide any weight to the back of the cabinet so if you have both doors open the whole cabinet starts to tip forward (I put some heavy objects on the bottom to keep it from tipping). This is probably why they tell you to attach the cabinet to a wall stud or the wall itself (they include the hardware to do this). Also, if you can get someone to help you with putting the heavy doors on, that would be a good idea. I put them on by myself which is difficult to do while you try to balance the heavy door and get the hinges to line up and click into place!

The other issue, was again, more of a disappointment in that I thought that the cabinet would look more like a piece of furniture (an armoire) in my 2nd bedroom. It is still useful, however, I would say that it is definitely more utilitarian looking that I expected and looks like it would be better suited for a garage or basement. I guess it just depends on the look you want! Hope this helps anyone considering purchasing it.

Good-but expected it to look more like an armoire

I searched all over the internet for a laundry room cabinet 12" x 36" by 72". This was the closest I came to in that size. I had to cut the wall edge of every piece to get it down to the 12" depth. I knew that when I bought it. I had to relocate the 4 feet because my reducing the depth would have taken out the back feet. I would have had to adjust them anyway because the original location of the feet wouldn't work because of the wall's shoe molding would have hit.
The unit also came damaged. Luckily the damage was on the edge that I was cutting off anyway. The previous reviews did say it uses a thin cardboard backing which is fine but the doors have a huge gap that I could not adjust to a smaller one. The doors were easy to attach and the soft close feature was nice.

All together, it does look a whole lot better that the 70's metal shelving it replaced. Just from afar..

looks good from afar

We needed extra storage in our kitchen until we renovate. This is a great solution. It was easy to put together and although the back is flimsy the shelves seem to be sturdy (we are trying to stick to the weight limits advised, which are 50 pounds for the bottom shelf and 35 pounds for the shelves above).

Good solution for our needs at a great price

This type of cabinet was not new to me as I have assembled many pieces of furniture previously. There are a couple of more challenging areas, mainly mounting the doors to the cabinet. This would seem very straight forward but there are some little tips that really would assist anyone new to this. One is to separate all the hardware pieces - screws, brackets, etc. I used a cupcake pan as everything is separate but easily carried to the work site.

One of the other areas that looked simple but became a challenge was putting the door mounts into the pieces on the side of the cabinet. There is a little curved catch that must be hooked first then pushed down to lock. As these are adjusting hinges it works best to not fully tighten the screws in the hinge part on the cabinet until the door hinge parts have been attached. (Notice that the screws do not wind all the way to the top allowing the movement of the hinge. Then tighten & position for height & closeness of the doors.) It took us a few tries to master the principle but it was fast going after that.

One of the doors was scuffed on the front edge in shipping so I emailed the company with the part number and received an prompt answer. A new door arrived at the house in about four days. I have order several more cabinets to finish the project, If you are concerned about the cardboard back I would pick up some light weight plywood etc at the hardware store. They cut it for me & it was not expensive. I have used the original backing and it worked fine for my pantry/laundry room also. This would depend on how often you intend to move the cabinets around.

I ordered one of these units before....I loved the product. So I ordered 3 more for various place and usage. One cabinet was delivered in perfect condition. The other 2 were delivered severely damaged. This is so frustrating as the unit is heavy and not easy to send back :(

Ordered before

I was highly anticipating receiving this cabinet only to be disappointed. When I opened the box one of the doors were split in two. I am going to re-order and this time ship to the store instead of my home and hopefully it will not be broken when I receive it.

Arrived Broken

While this unit was exactly the size and style I wanted for a linen closet for my walk-in closet, the construction and fittings leave much to be desired. Portions of a door were crushed, the doors do not/cannot meet even with multiple re-alignments, and the unit is wobbly because the initial holes were improperly aligned.
We worked on it for hours to no avail and added several bolts to hold it to the wall. It was too large and too heavy to return to Walmart. DO NOT buy this poorly constructed unit despite its wonderful price and style!

Great size and style

Several warnings should come with this cabinet:

1. The box says it weighs 48lbs, but it weighs closer to 150-200 lbs. I had to ask for help and use a dolly just to move it inside.

2. This item is cheaply made. It is constructed from compressed sawdust, not wood.

3. It arrived at my house broken; several pieces were snapped in two.

Do not buy: Poor quality, arrived broken

We spent 1/2 the day assembling the unit and it was extremely difficult for two adults. It came damaged but since it weighed about 100 lbs. and will live in the garage we didn't bother bringing it back. Also, the back is made of cardboard........very cheaply made!
