We purchased this about six years ago when we had gone through several coffee makers.  We purchased this along with the coffee grinder.  We could not be more pleased and we have used both at least twice a day for six years.  No issues.

Great Coffee Maker

Simply the best-tasting coffee I have ever had.  I have owned a wide range of drip, siphon, and pour over machines—I even bought a commercial pour over machine with extra warming plates and carafes—and this KitchenAid makes the most consistent and flavorful cup.  It should qualify for the SCA Gold Cup standard; it actually brews a tastier cup than the two expensive European machines I own.  (I bought the first Dutch-made brand and wasn't all-too satisfied, so, smart me, I bought an even larger version from the same company and was just as disappointed.)

The coffee is nice and hot, the carafe is easy to clean, and all the features work perfectly.  A famous TV personality used to advertise a brand of drip coffee maker by concluding with these words:  “You can pay more and you can pay less, but you can't buy a better coffee maker than [Brand N].”  Those words describe today's KitchenAid drip coffeemaker: the best, bar none.

Best Coffee Ever

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the best coffee pot I have ever owned. Coffee is hot from first cup to last. Easy use and cleaning. Only thing is I can't extend time after 2 hours. We sometime drink coffee at different times because my husband gets up early. I have found if I add water to reservoir and turn back on it works fine.

Machine works very well with several useful design features.  Medallion Silver would be a much better finish than the matte grey, which is raw plastic.  A quick guide came with but not the user guide that must be downloaded.

Useful Features Work Well

A good, but not great, coffee maker.  It makes a decent cup of coffee, but coffee would be better if the water was just a touch hotter during brewing.  Filling the reservoir at the sink is a great idea, but since I'm always going to be rinsing the carafe, it's simpler to just fill it and pour the water into the reservoir anyway.  Space is tight on our countertop, so I have the machine facing outward, to save a few inches, but by having the controls on the side, they are hidden. Finally, when you raise the lid condensation rolls off it and frequently goes down the side of the machine, rather than into the basket. 

I don't dislike this coffee maker, despite my grumbles. The carafe pours perfectly, rare in my experience, and the brew cycle is quick. 

The acid test is going to be how long the machine lasts. My last three coffee makers, all "better" brands, each quit after 2-2.5 years. I'm looking forward to the Kitchen Aid doing significantly better.

A very good machine with small annoyances

I'm really a 3.5 but rounded down for a few reasons. There are a few oddball items about the design and function I wish I knew ahead of purchase. In order of annoyance level: (1) no brew size selection, the pot will brew an amount of coffee equal to what's in the water chamber; while this is ‘fine', per se, being able to fill the reservoir and brew partial pots would be ideal. (2) the way the brew basket “locks” into place is cumbersome and seems likely to break/fail as it's just plastic-to-plastic and really kind of unnecessary. (3) after brewing and removing the pot and brew basket and raising the lid you end up with a lot of water spill onto the hot plate; makes it feel like an imprecise build.

Generally Pleased, Expect Long Life

It doesn't keep coffee hot for any amount of time, it leaks, it keeps dripping when the pot is pulled out while brewing (despite claiming otherwise), the rubber gasket under/around the heat plate is coming out.  It's also hard to move because the back tank will just pop out so there aren't many good places to hold it. It looks nice, and that's it.

I'm on my second one as I returned the first one. You can not brew on bold, instantly turns off. It almost always turns off after brewing coffee and I have to turn in back on and hit the plate warmer to keep the coffee warm. If I run the timer I almost always find the pot off and the coffee cold. I tried to check the manual but nothing indicates I'm doing anything wrong.

Terrible for the price

We purchased this coffee maker for a standard countertop drip coffee maker thinking KitchenAid makes a well known, well thought out product.  We were very disappointed.  Predominately the showerhead retains alot of condensated water.  When you open the lid, water spills all over the counter, and when you go to prep coffee for the night before, cold condensated water saturates the grounds before brewing starts the next morning.  Upon trying to return the product, KitchenAid refused because the product was used.

Poor Overall Design - Showerhead is Terrible

The carafe is extremely fragile. Mine broke with the slightest tap on the sink, and I cannot find a replacement anywhere. Without a carafe, the machine is completely useless. Unless the company makes replacements easily available, I would not recommend buying this product!
