I can't figure out how long we've had the first one of this model, but it has been at least 10 years - probably more.  It has had HEAVY usage with toast loving kids and parents.  We have an empty nest and it is time to replace the old one.  The heating elements were slowly failing until my husband's setting crept up from a 1 to a 2!  (He likes warm, limp bread.)  I still was able to get decent medium-toasted bread, but brownness could only be obtained at the tip top of the bread.  



We love the loud beep when the toast pops up.  Our family had gotten used to calling out "TOAST'S UP!!" with the toaster before this brand, and it became a running joke to still do that even with the new notification.  Yes, it is loud, but we have a big house near a busy road.  You can't miss that your bread is done and let it get cold unless you are REALLY immersed in something.



I did my research and discovered that this was still being manufactured (which speaks to its popularity, doesn't it?) and was a decent price point for a quality product.  There are always people who end up with a defective lemon product, but that was across the board of different brands of toasters.  I chose to stick with what I knew had worked for many hardworking years!  



Now, it is time to test drive the new beast and go make some lunch!

Kitchen Aid

We've had the toaster for a couple of weeks and so far we love it. No issues with toasting etc. I read other reviews that said it didn't toast well on one side but we've not had that issue. The toaster has a BAGEL option button as well as CANCEL button to pop up toast. If you press BAGEL the toaster will toast more on the flat side and less on the crust side of bagel. Maybe the one-sided issues are people are pressing the BAGEL button?

This toaster is great! We didn't have any issues with it toasting unevenly. Everything is coming out nice and even. The outside of the toaster does not get too hot, which is important for us because our kids use it. The slots are nice and wide. It's definitely an upgrade from our old toaster!

Love This Toaster

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have had this toaster for a few weeks now & I love it !  I believe, at this time, that you can just “trust the name” & go with it since it does not come up in any of the toaster reviews. Our last 4 slice was also a very well known upscale brand (started with a C) but it was terrible & only lasted 2 years before one side just quit.

Beautiful retro look & well built

Looks nice on the countertop. Fingerprints and smudges easily wipe off but I'm slightly disappointed with the mechanics of the toaster.  Must set the browning level high to get a slight color (about 4) and if set at 5 the toast burns.  Also takes longer to toast. Toasting bagels is fine as long as level is set on 5. I do like the high lift lever since I can retrieve the bread without using a utensil.  The sound at end of cycle is also a nice feature when busy fixing other items for breakfast.

Only reason not a 5  is the stainless finish is hard to keep clean

Very good toaster %26 bagel button that works

Considering this is a KitchenAid appliance, I was expecting better quality. Overall, it gets the job done, it toasts bread, bagels, PopTarts, etc. However the levers really need to be pushed and held down for the toaster to engage, and it feels cheap; I anticipate the kids breaking the knobs sooner rather than later. 
The dial for toasting needs some adjusting: selecting 2 on the dial doesn't fully toast a piece of sandwich bread, but selecting 3 toasts one side of bread perfectly but the other side is BURNED. This is the same for either slot used. Being able to select a ‘toasting time' between the numbers on the dial would be great.
There's not many options on the market for reasonably priced 4-slice toasters, this KitchenAid gets it done, but I'm not in love with it (but I'm also not willing to spend over $100+ for a higher-end option).

Good

I just received my toaster and plugged it in. Starts smoking and smells like burning plastic (everything had already been removed from the toaster). My husband said it was just because of new coils. Ok, well then I put 2 frozen waffles on 3, burnt.  Put 2 new ones in on 1, perfect.  Then decided to test a piece of bread since it wasn't frozen. Put one in on 1 and came out burnt.  I am not pleased that I spent all this money on a toaster that I cannot make toast in.
