I can't figure out how long we've had the first one of this model, but it has been at least 10 years - probably more.  It has had HEAVY usage with toast loving kids and parents.  We have an empty nest and it is time to replace the old one.  The heating elements were slowly failing until my husband's setting crept up from a 1 to a 2!  (He likes warm, limp bread.)  I still was able to get decent medium-toasted bread, but brownness could only be obtained at the tip top of the bread.  



We love the loud beep when the toast pops up.  Our family had gotten used to calling out "TOAST'S UP!!" with the toaster before this brand, and it became a running joke to still do that even with the new notification.  Yes, it is loud, but we have a big house near a busy road.  You can't miss that your bread is done and let it get cold unless you are REALLY immersed in something.



I did my research and discovered that this was still being manufactured (which speaks to its popularity, doesn't it?) and was a decent price point for a quality product.  There are always people who end up with a defective lemon product, but that was across the board of different brands of toasters.  I chose to stick with what I knew had worked for many hardworking years!  



Now, it is time to test drive the new beast and go make some lunch!

Kitchen Aid

We've had the toaster for a couple of weeks and so far we love it. No issues with toasting etc. I read other reviews that said it didn't toast well on one side but we've not had that issue. The toaster has a BAGEL option button as well as CANCEL button to pop up toast. If you press BAGEL the toaster will toast more on the flat side and less on the crust side of bagel. Maybe the one-sided issues are people are pressing the BAGEL button?

This toaster is great! We didn't have any issues with it toasting unevenly. Everything is coming out nice and even. The outside of the toaster does not get too hot, which is important for us because our kids use it. The slots are nice and wide. It's definitely an upgrade from our old toaster!

Love This Toaster

Our old toaster was getting tired & after a lot of research we decided on the KitchenAid. It's a 4 slice with wide slots & has the high lift lever for short slices. My wife is very pleased with it and sys she's never had one that toasts so evenly and consistently time after time. After more than a half century of marriage she's finally satisfied with the one appliance that gets used nearly every day.

Best toaster we've ever owned.

I believe, at this time, that you can just “trust the name” & go with it since it does not come up in any of the toaster reviews. Our last 4 slice was also a very well known upscale brand (started with a C) but it was terrible & only lasted 2 years before one side just quit.

Beautiful retro look & well built

Looks nice on the countertop. Fingerprints and smudges easily wipe off but I'm slightly disappointed with the mechanics of the toaster.  Must set the browning level high to get a slight color (about 4) and if set at 5 the toast burns.  Also takes longer to toast. Toasting bagels is fine as long as level is set on 5. I do like the high lift lever since I can retrieve the bread without using a utensil.  The sound at end of cycle is also a nice feature when busy fixing other items for breakfast.

Almost Great

I just received my toaster and plugged it in. Starts smoking and smells like burning plastic (everything had already been removed from the toaster). My husband said it was just because of new coils. Ok, well then I put 2 frozen waffles on 3, burnt.  Put 2 new ones in on 1, perfect.  Then decided to test a piece of bread since it wasn't frozen. Put one in on 1 and came out burnt.  I am not pleased that I spent all this money on a toaster that I cannot make toast in.

Looks better than it works

Just purchased, my wife plugged in, and toasted 1 piece of bread.  Toaster has gross metallic smell.. no exaggeration.. we could smell this from 40 feet away.    We  thought we had an electrical fire in our house.  Pushed down levers and confirmed smell is coming from toaster.

Smell

That activator arm to start the toaster does not work. It keeps popping up. It doesn't attach at the bottom when you first put the toast in very frustrating for a brand new toaster.
