It attaches quickly and shaves the ice cube in record time The texture is great for snowballs  The cube  makes enough ice for a kids size snow cone   I have pre frozen a bag full of cubes that you make in the 4 containers that come with attachment.

Have had the shave ice attachment for a 3 years. I love it!

I have a lot of the attachments. Nothing was not worth it.

Even use the larger appliances in my kitchen.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Kitchen Aid ice shaver attachment has been a hit in our household. It comes with 2 blades and several freezer cups. One blade is for fine shave and one is for a coarser shave. I personally prefer the finer shaved ice. The attachment is very sturdy and well made and it's easy to attach to the mixer. This will especially be nice to have during warmer weather because my grandson likes for me to take him to get snow cones so now I can save some money and make at home!  Also as a healthier alternative to using sugary syrups, I like to freeze real juices.  The only downside so far is that it's a large attachment so slightly bulky to store but it's worth it!

My grandson gives this two thumbs up!

It comes with 4 containers to create ice pucks and the option of course or fine shaved ice. It's so easy to use and clean! A must have for anyone who wants a high quality product and loves shaved ice! Hands down one of my favorite Kitchen Aid attachmentsi! Photo below is using the coarse option.

Shave Ice Attachement

This is the most used attachment for my Kitchenaid mixer. Shaved ice is a year round treat in our house now. My family loved it so much that we gifted one to my mother-in-law! 

Like all things there are pros and cons.

Pros:

Quality fluffy shaved ice

Less noisy than my old (cheap) shaved ice machine

You can buy more ice molds and replacement blades

Cons:

The pucks have to freeze for 24 hours and you only get 4 molds.

The molds are a specific shape and if the mold warps when freezing the ice puck won't work in the pusher.

I can't find other replacement parts, like the ice cup and sleeve.

Most used attachment!

i would recommend but be aware  of a couple things...  i am a shaved ice junkie and a huge supporter of kitchen aid, i have a mixer in both my homes and just about every attachment i could need.. When this came out i rushed to get it... i do own "snow cone machines but find they dont do a great job.  snow cones tend to have larger particles of ice and shaved ice more like snow (despite the names)   The unit comes with the the course blade installed however that really makes more of a snow cone consistency even to big for that.  for a true icy dessert you must use the fine blade, and it to at times can make the ice a little bigger then i wish it was... But the problems lies with the freezer cups.  i received one that came with a tiny crack didnt even notice e it leaking at first but realized when it was only half full when frozen, and a week or two in another one developed a slight leak so now im down to only 2 freezer cups and buy calls to KA have not helped they do not have cups to send and will get back to me???? no help.   also im concerned that after a month or two of regular use, we make one or two snow cones almost every day or every other, i fear the fine blade may already be dulling and not sure there is any chance that KA will be able to address it???   But when its working well this is a GREAT  item one of my favorite KA attachments..

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The pusher plate broke the first time we used it.  We think that we did not let the ice puck "temper" long enough before trying to shave it.  Easily got a replacement. With warm weather now, we are looking forward to shave ice this summer.

Ok, I don't feel like I am normally an idiot, but don't make the mistake I did. 
The instructions aren't super clear that you must run the ice puck container under water to release the puck and then use it. 
Seems obvious in retrospect, but instructions not clear. 
If you do not remove the puck, you will feel like it is surprisingly hard to get the Detachable Ice Cup mounted and then your mixer will struggle. You will wonder why, then notice black in your shave ice. And then realize you are shaving plastic. Not good. Especially since only 4 cups come with the machine. Sigh. 
Once set up properly, it seems to work much better. Obviously. 
Might have ruined the blade with the plastic bc texture is more snow cone than shave ice to this exHawaii girl. But maybe user error hurt a bit here.

Holy microplastics, Batman! (aka: am I an idiot?)

Used this for one summer several times and enjoyed it. Put the parts away for winter. When we got it back out we found that the main upper housing does not connect with the driving shaft that is screwed into it anymore. Took the metal shaft mechanism (that ends in a square profile post), and looked inside the white main unit. There appears to be something missing or broken off, because the metal shaft no longer connects to the gear mechanism. We have no idea what happened, but what a total bummer. Can't afford a new one. Can't sell this one. Can't fix it. Can't find a replacement part. Pretty unhappy.

Poor internal mechanism failed after a year.
