Effective for evenly mixing and producing light cakes.

Simple to operate and assemble with minimal instructions.

Wanted it as soon as I heard about it. I have the uncommon model KSM6573, the Professional HD 6000, which is a 6.5 qt, narrow bowl lift model, with the fluted edge bowl. This attachment works great with that model. Adding dry ingredients was always awkward & messy, since the configuration of my model has just a small, narrow gap between the planetary head and the bowl rim, and there are no pouring shields that fit the fluted bowl, so you're stuck with stop, lower the bowl & add, or putting ingredients onto wax or parchment paper, and carefully pouring in thru the narrow gap. I do a lot of baking, mostly breads & cakes, so this was frustrating - but this is the best model for the heavy bread doughs I work with, so I dealt with it. But, since getting this attachment, WOW! Every bit of flour easily goes into the center of the bowl, so it's consistently mixed with wet ingredients and doesn't pouf out in a big cloud, either. No spills, no stopping to scrape the bowl to incorporate the flour, and it's a faster & more consistent method, so I'm not over mixing doughs and batters because it's taking too long to add in all the flour. Thus, my breads & cakes have a better texture & rise, too. This does the job well - even for delicate macarons. I found the entire unit easy to operate, clean and assemble/dissemble, and the scale was accurate when compared to my stand alone scales. TIPS:

KEEP THE INGREDIENT VALVE CLOSED UNTIL YOU'VE FINISHED WEIGHING - weights will be more accurate, and it's easier to remove any excess. When finished, give a quick stir, then open the valve.

ADJUST THE SHUTE BEFORE OPENING THE INGREDIENT VALVE - Use the black tab on the side of the metal shute to extend & retract the shute, and to swivel it left/right, so it hits your bowl in just the right spot.

CLEANING: If you must do multiple recipes in quick succession, tap the unit lightly on the side with a spatula or spoon handle to shake out any ingredient residue, quickly brush out each part with a clean, dry paint or basting brush between recipes. When washing, dissemble the attachment. The scale section can be wiped with a damp cloth, while the other pieces should be lightly tapped over the sink to remove any hidden ingredient residue. That is important - if you don't do this first, when you wash/rinse them, residue may cake or form clumps that will stick to the unit and harden when dry. All pieces must be completely dry before use, otherwise, ingredients will stick, clump & cake.

IF YOU ARE PETITE/SHORT: Attach only the sifter/shute sections to the mixer. Use the hopper and scale on the counter to weigh your ingredients, then stop the mixer, attach the scale & hopper to the sifter unit, restart the mixer, and open the ingredient valve. Why? This attachment is tall, and may make it difficult for you to use for weighing ingredients while attached to the mixer, unless you have one of the smaller models, or your mixer is on table or shelf lower than typical kitchen counter. My mixer is 16.5" tall. When attached, the hopper opening rises 6.5" above the mixer, and the scale readout is 3" above the top of the mixer. For me, that means the hopper opening is 23" above my counter, or 60' (5 ft) from my floor. That's higher than the bottom shelf in a wall cabinet. I'm 5'9", so it's perfect for me, and brings the scale readout closer to my middle-aged eyes, which is great. A shorter person might find it difficult to view the scale readout at that height, and could find it difficult not to bump the hopper while adding ingredients, thus affecting the scale accuracy.

VOLUME/WEIGHT CONVERSIONS: King Arthur Flour has a great list for converting volume measurements (cups & spoons) to weights (grams & ounces) for many different types of flour and other ingredients, and even have tips for adjusting dry ingredient weights to account for changes in humidity. (Not to mention a lot of great recipes).

So helpful!

Kitchen Aid

I went back and forth on buying this. Would I use it? The versatility of it being a scale and a sifter did it for me. I use the scale in the stand alone position a lot and I am using the sifter more than I thought I would. BUT I am more impressed with KA's customer service. Couldn't find the weight plate for this for about 2 weeks. When I say I checked everywhere I did, even in the cat litter. Then one day I flipped griddle over. There is was, melted to the bottom, my fault. Called KA, told them what I did and asked how do I go about ordering one. Lisa, the CS rep found the part number and sent me it at no cost. I love KA products and love my 7qt bowl lift mixer, it replaced my tilt head Tha I've had for 20 years.

Love this product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this attachment. Making sourdough breads, pastries and crackers is a breeze now. So convenient having the scale and mixer together. Faster and less mess in my kitchen. Highly recommend...especially if counter space is limited!

Sifter & Scale attachment

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have made many batches of buttercream icing and always hated having to add the powder sugar a little at a time and making such a mess. With sifter and scale attachment it measures it for me and adds it making my life easier.

Time Saving & Less Messy!!

I've had the sifter/scale attachment for almost a year now and LOVE IT! i make many, many batches of pizza dough each month (up to 14 batches in a day). Using the sifter/scale attachment has helped a ton with my accuracy and streamlines my process. i can work on other part of dough making while it's sifting and adding flour to the bowl. I love the scale by it's self too!

Great addition to my pizza dough making process!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] In reading all the reviews on all of your products, the sifter caught my eye. Since I have developed gout due to some kidney issues, I thought this product would be ideal for me. I love to bake but was loosing interest as I had an old fashion sifter that I was finding difficult to squeeze. The sifter is just what I needed. Thank you

One of a kind

My husband gave this to me for Christmas and I used it too soft confectioners sugar for icing. It measured and sifted the right amount which yielded fluffy icing for my Christmas cake. The chute is adjustable from side to side and expandable to ensure the sugar or flour makes into the bowl. Just don't use it on the higher speeds as you will end up with a dust cloud. Slower speeds work fantastic. I can't wait to see what I get for my birthday in 4 days. I'm sure it's a Kitchenaid product- my best friend in the kitchen.

Awesome. One of the Best Attachments

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am finding myself using this attachment more than I thought I would. I sifted a bread that I made and it was so light and fluffy, Perfect !!! I would love to be able to get a finer sifting screen since it does pop out, this would be an Awesome option and an improvement to a great attachment. Hoping KA considers this improvement.

Great Attachment !!!

Works great! I love that I can weigh and sift my products. My only issue is that its loud. I usually get up before the rest of the house to bake and I cant use the sifter because you can hear it upstairs. I also wish it held more thank 2 cups but thats minor.

Does the job

walmart.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved the fact that it was an easy set up and included sifter. What threw me off was that the scale is sensitive to touch and flucatuates a lot with movement. Mildly moving the mixer or tapping ten flour container would change the weight on the scale. What I did love however, is eliminating using a separate bowl for dry ingredients as I did previously before I had a mixer. Clean up was a breeze and I love that the pieces are dishwasher friendly

Great feautures

saurbcl

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble but I returned my sifter attachment. I am a gadget guru and thought this was going to be an amazing attachment. It is too much trouble to assemble and have to measure the flour first before adding. It is supposed to measure it but it goes way too fast and if you have extra it is hard to put back. When I was adding the flour it flew off the mixer and 1 1/2 cups of flour went everywhere. It took 1 hours to clean up. This is way to much tourble to use. I will be back to measuring and sifting the old fashioned way.

Don't bother
