I inherited my MIL's Kitchen Aid K5-a mixer. I immediately purchased the Fresh Prep Slicer /Shredder because I shred block cheese weekly. I cannot explain my sheer excitement and satisfaction of how well this product performed. Unlike most shredders, I did not have to pull compacted cheese out of the blade rotor. Nor excessively push the cheese down to go through the tube to grate. It simply did its job. I was so impressed I videoed and sent it to my husband and asked why we waited to get one of these mixers! We will be ordering the ice shaver and pasta maker/cutter soon!!! So well done Kitchen Aid! Thank you!!

Worth the Purchase

I bought the KitchenAid Fresh Prep Slicer/Shredder Attachment thinking it would help me slice a few cucumbers and maybe shred some cheese. What I did not expect was to unlock a level of kitchen power that should honestly require a permit.

The moment I attached this thing to the mixer, it transformed from a friendly countertop appliance into a high‑speed produce‑obliterating machine. I fed a carrot into it and it shredded so fast I thought I accidentally opened a wormhole.

I'm not exaggerating — I blinked and suddenly had enough shredded cheese to supply a mid‑sized taco truck. I shredded so much zucchini I briefly considered starting a farmers market. I sliced potatoes so perfectly I felt like I should be wearing a chef's coat and yelling “YES, CHEF” at myself.

The attachment is easy to clean, but only because it vaporizes anything that touches it. I'm convinced if I dropped a brick in there, it would come out as confetti.

Pros:
- Turns your KitchenAid into a culinary wood chipper  
- Slices and shreds faster than your brain can process  
- Makes you feel like a professional chef even if you can't boil water  

Cons:
- You will shred everything in your fridge “just to see what happens”  
- You will run out of containers to store all the shredded stuff  
- You will become emotionally attached to the power  

Final Verdict:
If you want an attachment that slices, shreds, and makes you question why you ever used a knife like a peasant, this is the one.  
Just be prepared to shred everything that isn't nailed down.

This Thing Turned Me Into a Full‑Time Vege

I love it because I don't have to have an extra big thing to find a place for. Know I only have to put it with my kitchen Aide

This is this product is a great product. It attaches to my KitchenAid and it works wonders saves time. I love it.
I would recommend this product to anyone that's thinking about buying it. I also would give it for gifts to people that have Kitchen Aid.

I really like this tool for my mixer. It makes life easier than shredding zucchini and cheese by hand.  However the clear housing on the piece that fits into the mixer broke/shattered. I don't want to have to order a new kit since I just need this one part. Too bad it's not made of tougher plastic.

Love the tools-wish is was made sturdier!

My husband bought me this for Mother's Day this year and I've been using it for shredding cheese for my sourdough cheez its! It made it so easy! Today the plastic tube broke from the base and after looking at the reviews it looks like I can't fix it or use the warranty to replace it! Ugh very frustrating.

Plastic cylinder broke

I've had this attachment less than a year. I love my KitchenAid mixer but this attachment is not worth the money, in my experience. It has already broken and I am babying it along to get my moneys worth before I go ahead and buy a separate, counter-top shredder. 

When shredding cheese, no matter the temperature of the cheese, the shredder gums up on the inside and cheese must be dug out with a fork. This is just extra work (which isn't a MAJOR concern) but when you spend this much on a kitchen product that should make life “easier” I would not expect this type of issue.

Not worth the money

Extremely cheaply made product. It broke where the clear plastic and white plastic are GLUED together. I take very good care of my accessories, have always been gentle with it and always hand wash. I didn't get very much use out of it and honestly the spot that it came apart wouldn't take that much stress for it to have come apart anyway!

I have purchased this model twice now to replace my old style shredder that has cracked but was still usable. Both snapped in the same spot, where the feeder time enters the main housing. The plastic in this spot is extremely thin and does not stand up over a relatively short period of time

2 broken in three years
