After 12 years, our dough hooked chipped but I plan to order a few extras.  This has been a great mixer.  When the dough hook chipped, the mixer was vibrating and the hinge pin kept coming out.  I found out that periodically the screw underneath needs to be tightened.  Appears to be working fine now and hopefully the dough hook chip problem won't repeat.

I've been using this as is for a while. It hold up to thick doughs but has been chipping away since I got it. It's not as bad as other reviews I've seen, however I ONLY hand wash it. Never has it been in the dishwasher. I don't recommend it, however maybe the stainless steel version would be better. The mixer comes with the stainless steel whisk attachment. It should also come with the stainless steel dough hook and paddle attachment also.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I liked the mixer. But the quality of attachments is not satisfactory. The coating of the dough hook is peeling off. Its getting into the dough. The pieces are tiny, so are difficult to find. I not happy with the dough hook.

Quality of dough hook not good

I used the white one that came with my old refurbished KitchenAid for years and never had a problem with it. About a year or two ago I bought a new KitchenAid that included these grey accessories. The dough hook is chipping despite mostly being hand washed.

I should have written before about this as I now see all the other people complaining about the same issue with the dough hook coating.  I haven't used my mixer in a while but today, after making my dough, I noticed that there is a much bigger chip than there was before.  I am concerned that a paint chip is now in my dough!  I came on to the website to see if it was safe to consume in case it IS in my dough, and noticed all these similar issues.  I also have some other random issues like the hook wasn't connecting securely today when I used it- maybe the inside of the hook connector is broken??  Disappointed because there are many other products on the market that are much less costly, but since KitchenAid has always been the "gold standard", I thought it would hold up better over time.

I bought the 4.5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer 3 years ago. The mixer is ok but I am very disappointed about the quality of the accessories. The paint started to chip off the hook. Which is a serious hazardous and safety  issue because the paint can get into the dough while kneading. So now I can not use this hook anymore because of its poor quality. And when I read all the reviews mentioning this specific safety issue, I am wondering if anything has been done yet to actually fix that. Safety should be more important than a fancy design.

Poor quality of coating.

While I am happy overall with my Kitchen Aid mixer, the coating on the dough hook began to chip off after about a year of use.  At first I noticed a slight split in the coating. The split grew larger over time, then the coating started to chip off.  It's a shame because I enjoyed making bread dough with the mixer but I'm afraid to use the hook because I don't want chips of the coating in the bread dough.  I certainly don't want to give loaves of bread to friends and family if they might be contaminated with chips of the coating.

Just like most people on here, the hook has started chip white paint off near the bottom. There should be a recall or send it in for a replacement.

I really love my kitchenAid mixer but this morning when I was making a batch of sguti Easter bread my dough hook broke into two pieces. I am not impressed as upon research it seems it happens quite often! I stepped up and purchased a KitchenAid mixer and didn't expect to have to replace the tools!

I bought a KitchenAid Artisan 5 Quart standing mixer less than a month ago and after one use the white paint is chipping off the C dough hook.  



I was going to buy a replacement hook, but after reading similar reviews I am afraid this will continue to occur even with another dough hook.  Therefore, this would be a waste of time and money.



I am very disappointed with KitchenAid.  They used to be such a well respected brand.  Why has this issue not been resolved?
