Bought this to replace a Cusinart that finally got too old. For its first use, anyway, I am very impressed. The button is a lot easier to hold down when blending. My culinart had little round rubber buttons that my fingers seemed to never be able to hold down continually. Also it is better balanced when stood on the counter with the blending attachment (my other seemed top heavy and would tend to tip). I used it to blend a large pot of cooked tomato and onion and it did well with the puree.

One of the most handy and versatile tools in my kitchen.  Blending and puree' are an art form in my family.  We use the immersion blender to make puréed foods for someone that has difficulty swallowing after a stroke.  (ie blending chunky broccoli cheddar soup into a smooth creamy soup, or blending in food thickeners).  Saves time when making puréed baby foods or canning jams.  I highly recommend the brand because of the quality and its versatility.  You can blend while the food is still hot, even in small containers such as a measuring cup, and the variable speed control lets you choose how quickly you can achieve your desired outcome.

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I bought this like a year ago and it's still doing a fantastic job with my smoothie and even mashed potatoes. I love it and it is also perfect for holiday gifts.

Amazing performance

Ordered this to replace a previous purchase that lasted around 15 years.  This is a cheap imitation.  It overheats; I returned this on advice of a KitchenAid chat session since it was under warranty.  CSR didn't realize it was overheating, neither did I until I got a replacement.  It stops working after a minute or two liquifying fresh tomatoes or making teriaki sauce with fresh garlic and fresh ginger.  Not bad making hot cocoa with just milk, cocoa powder, and sugar; but not as frothy as the previous model.  Very disappointed.

Design flaw?

Very disappointed with this blender. I bought it expecting it to handle basic kitchen tasks, but it struggles even with soft cottage cheese and simple soups. Every time I immerse it into a thicker mixture, the motor starts choking and the blades stop spinning.

I constantly have to stop and clean the attachment because the mixture gets stuck inside, but that only helps for a few seconds before it clogs up again. What should take two minutes turns into a long and frustrating process of stopping, cleaning, and restarting over and over.

Blending soft cottage cheese should not be too much for a hand blender, yet this one behaves like it's overloaded almost immediately. I honestly don't understand how this product is supposed to handle everyday cooking if it can't process soft ingredients without the motor giving up.

Very frustrating experience and definitely not the quality I expected.

Expected much better quality

Bought this a few weeks ago and finally used it last night for soup. Blended for about two minutes before the engine failed and the blades stopped spinning. I let the device rest for a couple of minutes, plugged and unplugged, tried again. It failed in under a minute. I figured I was using it wrong - was the soup too hot? I let the soup cool completely for hours before going back to try again, and in less than two minutes it fails again. Took me half an hour to blend my soup due to the device failing over and over again. 
Please, this must be a defect right? There's no way a kitchen appliance should be expected to have a cool down after under two minutes of use? Would like to either replace or return.

I am very disappointed with this hand blender. From the very first use, it has had the same issue: it runs for only a few seconds and then stops working. This happens even when I'm not blending any food, so it is clearly not being overloaded.

I followed the instructions and expected a reliable product, especially from KitchenAid, but this unit appears to be defective. Unfortunately, it has been unusable since day one. I expected much better quality and reliability from this brand.
