Ease Of Installation

Design

We have several Kohler toilets of the same model and I keep a spare set of valve and flapper parts on hand so that they are immediately available when needed. I like to use original Kohler parts to ensure perfect fit and performance. Having a set on hand enables you or your plumber to do a  replacement in a matter of minutes. The instructions provided make installation easy.

Replacement piece

I had to replace the fill valve and the flush valve on the toilets in the condo we purchased. Originally Ii thought the flapper on the fill valve was the problem for the constant. Replaced those but the problems persisted. Next I changed the flush valves; that solved the problems. The valves are difficult to remove and install. There is not much room in the tank to work on the valves( I don't have large hands). I had to push down on the valve to reduce the thickness of the gasket while twisting the valve body. Not an easy task. I found You Tube a good source to see how it was done before I attempted it.   The valve replacements solved the problems.

The unit works well.  I could not install it despite using lubricant and wot water on the spacer.  A plumber installed it and to achieve adequate pressure on the space without breaking the tabs, he had to remove the supply valve.  This unit either requires a redesign or more detailed instruction on installation.

For what should be a simple replacement, it was quite difficult even with the on-line tip of soaking in hot water beforehand. It took multiple attempts and watching non-Kolher how-to videos to finally get into and still ended up breaking one of the holding prongs.

More difficult than it should be

Had a leak in the one one piece toilet.  Turned out to be the valve.  Old one had broken plastic retaining pieces.  Since this is the only valve that works with that toilet design. I went ahead and got the replacement.  After trying all the tips from Koehler and others online.  I gave up on the new valve.  It would NOT seal.  It was not the flapper or the level. It was a poor design.  No order Koehler only used it for one year.
My only solution was to get a new toilet to fix he valve leak in the otherwise working toilet
