My 4 & 9 year old loved this set. My nine year old said this was cooler then a creator set because you can make more then one thing at time. They thought the gear part was fun. The owl rolling it's eyes, the swinging monkey and carousel. Highly recommend. Worth the money

Better then I was expecting

My nephew absolutely loves this set. The gears add an extra dimension of fun. He's asking for a larger similar set for his birthday, but if one exists yet I haven't found it.

We wish there were more sets like these!

This set helped to transform my 5-year old son's collection of classic lego from an occasional plaything to the toy he plays with every day. 

The gears are simple enough that he can put them together himself and he enjoys making new moving creations. 

We have added four technic wheels and a couple of axels from 'pick a brick' so that he can more easily make vehicles where something turns when they are pushed along.

Brilliant introduction to gears

I love the gears in this set. I can't wait to share this with my grandkids.

This seems like a nice set of bricks - but it's called "Brick and Gears" - where are the gears? There are a few axles in it - but where are the gears?! Which of these parts count as gears?

Where... are the gears?!

I wanted to find a set that I could use to introduce my 5 yr old girls to gears. This for the bill just right for them. I had them each choose a model to build in turn. The models in the instructions are easy and entertaining for them; they were very excited about each one. It would've been nice if there were extra gears beyond those used for the models in the instructions, to encourage creativity rather than just following the instructions here, but I suppose I could just get another set for that.

Great for introducing the kids to gears

Our 5 year old granddaughter loves this. There are instructions included for additional online things to make with this set. She keeps asking for more. Great Legos toy.

My grandson wanted this for his birthday.  I shopped around and found it much cheaper at Walmart.  He has had hours of creative and imaginary play.  And he's able to use  his technology for ideas to build.

I can't see an obvious replacement for this set. Why was such a good basic set retired? What is the new equivalent?

Why was this retired!?

My grandson (8 yrs.) wanted more gears so he could build his own machines. I bought motors too and he really excited. He began building immediately!
