I got this Lego set on my birthday and I ordered it from the Lego shop online it came within a few days and I built this quiet quickly and I really like the choice of animals and colours in this set and the building technics that the designer has used when you add power functions to this set it really comes to life I like the way the animals move up and down with only a few Lego parts the price was not high for what you receive.Thanks

One of the best Lego sets ever received

Had fun doing this set. And I have newfound respect for Lego designers. 

Fairly challenging to make, one just needs to pay attention to details. My only complaint is about the blue arch pieces, I ended up with some holes showing. :( Minor thing though.

I added fairylights to this fairy tale carousel. I think it makes it look more like the real rides. :)

My First Creator Set

This is one of my favorite Lego Sets to build and here is my take on the Carousel build and overall look of it. First the overall look of the carousel from my perspective. This compliments the Lego Ferris Wheel very nicely and using animals instead of traditional horse is a very brilliant move. The carousel is beautifully detailed with trim that it makes you wish you could shrink yourself to that size and ride it yourself. The instructions are nicely done and if you follow it step-by-step then you should end up with a solid Lego Carousel. I have read other reviews saying that they are afraid of picking up and carrying it because it breaks on them. I for one don't find that the case and I would guess if it's falling apart easily either you don't have something right or something is not clicked down. Here are my few negatives on the carousel. The first one is the stickers, for I personally can't stand putting stickers on parts. However, I have become better at applying them and I understand it would drive up the cost of the Lego products if everything was printed. The second one is the small holes that randomly shows up on the decorative trim . It would had been nice if all of them were solid, but it's not a deal breaker for it really isn't that noticeable unless you are really looking for imperfections. I would also guess on a real life carousel that was transported from location to location you would see small imperfections - well that is how I look at it. Thirdly, I hate when I finish a Lego Build for they go to quick. LOL 
I'm 53 years, so playability isn't a factor; however, I would think the Carousel would have more playability than some of the other sets that I have built.

My Take on the Lego Carousel

This is a fabulous set. Love the detail, love the animals. But.

My issue with it is sturdiness. Because of the size and complexity of the underpinning, I would really really like it to have a far more stable base. I have had to rebuild twice, once an easy fix, but the second time I had to pretty much start over after moving the set off the shelf so that all the grandkids could admire it and watch it turn. For now I have put it on a large gray baseplate, although that does still allow more flex than I would like.

Additions? It would really have been nice to have lights under the canopy. I am still thinking on that as an addition, but it would likely mean another rebuild! (Note: music would also be wonderful!)

Because of the fragility, I don't really think of it as a playable set.

Carousel

I had a wonderful time building this set. I didn't run into issues with any parts like other reviewers have mentioned. I ordered this when it was pre-released to VIPs. I did receive one slightly bent long, gray, cover piece but that was my only issue.

It's my most advanced Lego construction to date and I love playing with it. My hours to build include time to play and test the gears as I went along. I had an area in the early construction where the gear would sometimes stick so I opened it up, found I had used the wrong part, put the correct part in and voila, the gear ran smoothly after that.

I agree that the center piece is a bit difficult to get to sturdily attach and I did have things fall apart from the pressure I was using to try to make them click. But they have stayed on so I guess I made it work.

If you're like me, this may be helpful. I hate putting the Lego stickers on pieces, I can never align them with enough precision for my taste; and this calls for quite a few stickers for the reflective accents. (A heads up, the first set of circular stickers you'll use are the printed ones. The plain ones come last).

All that said, I really had a blast bringing this creation to life and I didn't want it to end, even if there was quite a bit of repetition for the pieces. The frog is brilliant, as other reviewers have commented. Building the tiger was also really enjoyable. All the animals were fun to build, but those two were my faves. The colors of the bricks were also fun to work through. 

It's pricey, but it's big, with lots of unique pieces, and for the creative design that went into this, I think it's a pretty fair price.

I didn't want the construction to end

This is a very nice build, it is in 5 stages - roughly:

* The base/ground
* The deck of the carousel
* The centre of the carousel
* The animals for the ride
* The roof and it's edging

The build like the carousel was interesting - I iiked all the attention to detail; the clever use of slopes and hinges to make the base, the use of hinges to get the slopes in the centre.... But most of all the animals are so well made and have lots of interesting features about them...

Now for the bits I'm not so keen on - bag 5 (and to a lesser extent) bag 2 can be quite repetitive - although both have interesting techniques in them - but this is similar to the ferris wheel - and is due to the symmetries in the design.

The only other issue I have is the base - I think it would have benefited from a bit more rigidity and perhaps having tiles below every bit of it rather than just the visible edges - as picking it up can be tricky - as the base is the only obvious place to do it.

.. and I would have liked a slightly different gear ratio so I could make it spin slightly faster <g>!

A very nice build especially the animals

I built this for my two sons who, like me, are huge Lego fans. They have all the Amusement Park theme items, including the new rollercoaster. We have two large tables step up as a Lego Amusement Park -- this is great addition to other sets. 

Like others, my annoyance is the base comes apart too easily. And when it does, you have to take half of it apart to fix internally. After fixing it 3 times (about 20 to 30 minutes each time), I figured out the cause and a found a solution. 

I've included pictures, basically on page 163 you want to use larger plates, in more locations to keep the base together. Where it says 4x 2X2 plate, you want to replace the lower red 2x2 place with a single plate that is 4 knobs high. With extra pieces I had, I used both a 4x4 for one section, and an 8x2 + 1x4 (for side support). If you have them I would recommend using 6 or 8 4x4 plates spaced out. You might be able to use it on all 12 points, but I was concerned it could cause a jam. 

After my fix, it has been used dozens of times over the last 4 months (with power functions) and it is still together!

Beautiful expect base needs internal reinforcement

This is a beautiful set and was a fun build. My wife and I really enjoyed this set. A couple of areas we were disappointed with were the wings of the Swan not going together well and their placement. We would recommend them being connected just one row higher. On the stairs, the red 2x2 slims were not gripping well and needed to be doubled to keep them together.

That was the good and the bad, now for the ugly. First of all, not all of the white blocks were the same white. I felt like I was working with my uncle's old dirty bricks along with some of my brand new bricks making my own model. Some of the bricks were almost cream not white. I double checked to make sure it said LEGO on the bricks and the box. Secondly, the red 2x2 slims #302221 were not opaque but translucent and did not lock well at all. If I'm paying a premium price because this is suppose to be a quality product, then that is what I expect. When I buy LEGO, I expect great quality control that ensures continuity and consistency of color and holding power.

Good, bad & ugly

I really liked building the Carousel last night. The instructions are easily followed and as the model took shape I really enjoyed building the ride elements. The animals are cleverly designed and are surprisingly realistic, considering the scale we are working at.

There was one part of the build I needed to deviate from the instructions when joining the lower to the upper level of the main deck. The instructions show four red 2x2 plates being used for this task, but I found this was insufficient and in the end used a 2x2 plate for each of the 12 segments.

This aside, the whole build was enjoyable, some really neat techniques were used and the finished model is well worth the money.

Thank you Lego and can't wait for the next new expert model.

Neat, nifty and creative

Not enough attention was paid when packaging the set.

I can tell this set was meticulously designed, which is why the issue I had building it is so disappointing. This set was designed so that the holes in the blue elephant trunk pieces in the top detailing always face the inside, so the outside has a smooth look. 

The manual itself doesn't even differentiate between these parts, but I ended up with 25 of ones facing one way, and 23 pieces that faced the other way. Aka I have a hole on the outside of one of my blue elephant pieces. Completely ruins the smooth look the set is going for. =/

A good idea would be to split these into two part numbers so this doesn't happen to anyone else, or provide an extra of each just in case.

Great Set, Love the color & the mechanics, BUT

Was excited for this set to add to my other expert sets but I'm gutted with it at present.

The base was beyond a joke, if you haven't got Lego spares to hold the excessive amount of awkward base parts together then don't even consider buying this set. The base was pathetic, every time you press something on, tons of other bits jump off and shatter.

The animals weren't all easy to put together, the tiger easily comes undone, the elephant was almost impossible to build.
The trim around the edge of the canopy was incredibly tentative to put together.

I eventually cracked it and loved it however the instructions and box do not warn you that the set is unmovable! Bits of base began to come loose being carried a short distance and the middle section with the gold railings on began to fall in - they are unrepairable! The carousel now longer turns. I cannot lie stomach down flat on the floor to fix it, I can't see under the canopy and I have a painful shoulder conditon on one shoulder that cannot also be used at such an angle and of course I can't move it anywhere higher.

Even before I tried to move it the base would need pressing on every now and again because it wouldn't turn anymore. 
I've spent a lot of money ony Lego hobby but this kit took the Mickey and I wish I hadn't wasted my money.

Worst Lego set ever- disappointed
