This set contains an unmatched quantity of detail and beauty: the qualities of what one can consider a masterpiece. For those who have said this set is ‘too repetitive' or ‘you're only building the same thing 40 times' probably have not viewed the set in real life and taken the time to appreciate this. On the other hand, those who have purchased and constructed this set are able to view the set from 360 degrees, of which all angles share the beautiful design and architecture of the Roman's infamous Colosseum. The plethora of detail like in the hypogeum reassures you that you have created the largest set of all time, and in my opinion, the greatest set of all time. I would recommend this set to anyone willing to take up the challenge of a 15 hour long and arduous build. Do not fear. The accomplishment of constructing this set is far greater than any set I have previously built and really begs the question: how gruelling must construction be for the slaves of Ancient Rome without a manual? For reasons listed above, this set truly deserves the title of the largest Lego set and is a masterpiece just like the 1951 year old Colosseum it portrays.

A masterpiece

Wanted this as soon as it was announced. Took some time but I finally got it. The build is a tad repetitive, but the over all build is solid. The biggest issue is the size makes the set hard to display easily.

There is a small issue w/ bag #29 being in the wrong box. Would have been confusing if others had not pointed it out. The stopping points on the boxes are odd and seem like this set could have been broken down a little better.

Other than these two issues, the set is a blast to build. It looks amazing and the detail is fantastic given the building material and size. The packaging and instructions are full of details and look incredible.

As a Lego fan and a fan of architecture, this set hits all the right points. Having built the full line of Lego Architecture as well as Big Ben and the Taj Mahal, this was a must for me. I look forward to more sets like this and can't recommend this set enough.

Epic build!!!

To begin with:”NO MISSING PARTS”!!! For a kit with 9,063 bricks with no missing ones, you earned my applause! The kit itself is made of different modules, great engineering to ease of building of such s huge build. The base has wonderful colored bricks that, like most builds, are hidden by grey plates, loosing their beauty. Maybe some day Lego will come up and create some clear transparent bricks to show off those hidden beautifully colors. The Colosseum is built of 40 modules, kind of repetitive, but in a piece of history like this as in the Taj Mahal, there is no other way to engineer it! It is really not boring. There are some slight differences among them and if you are not careful, well, disassemble is a very easy option: remember this are Lego, no glue, no paint, no problem! I really dont know how long it took me to build the kit. I took my time, read all the interesting notes in the instructions book and learned things I have never heard about the Colosseum! The kit is not for the faint of heart. You need to have a spare table since it will take a while to build; excellent illumination; some kind of plastic clear vases to place your parts so they dont get lost ( they come pretty well organized and sorted in the bags, I emptied each bag in a plastic container and it eased the selection and picking of them); make sure to cover the table with a heave cloth or towel to prevent parts from jumping off; have some twizers handy, I have fat fingers and sometimes it makes difficult to pick small parts! The engineering team at Lego did an excellent job! You only have to enjoy the build and then sit down and wonder the beauty of your build! You will feel great of having such a wonderful piece of art built by you, displayed for you, your family and friends! Enjoy your kit!

Magnificent kit!

I bought the LEGO Colosseum as a birthday gift for my daughter, but like the electric trains for her brothers, I had even more fun with this model than the giftee. We spent Sunday afternoons working together, and as we got to know the details, we could do some of the steps for sub-assemblies in parallel. We had no missing parts; indeed, we had a few extras, and I couldn't resist putting one (part 4516055) in at step 118 of book IIII in the interest of symmetry. We now have bragging rights for adding an extra brick to this exquisite model and having something that may be, in a teeny way, unique! What great joy we had building this remarkable model. There were few challenges; the books are great, extremely detailed and clear. I recommend this set with great confidence that builders will derive enormous joy and satisfaction in placing the 9036 (or in our case 9037) pieces together and see what is perhaps the world's most famous arena emerge on their construction table. Don't miss out on this one!

This is the most beautiful, magnificent Lego model I've ever built. Even though a little repetitive, each column is slightly different and the Colosseum grows before your eyes which is very satisfying.
The build quality is typical Lego standard - solid! You can pick it up and move it around easily, and there was not 1 piece missing - amazing Lego quality control!
This will be a talking point anywhere - buy and build it while you can!

This is truly a one of a kind build and a very long build, pat on the back to the builders for this one. The model from top to bottom is a lovely calm build with some hard parts here and there. Is it repetitive... yes, but in a way which is fun and not boring and long. This Is truly for adults for sure i cant see kids finding this fun.

For the bad part, the instructions where a huge downer from start to end, a set this size and price should have a binder kind of instructions and should all be one instruction not four. They got damaged in the single boxes, i have the ucs millennium falcon and i think that's how it should have been.
When building the pages where soo small that the instructions got lost at the seam and i often missed part and steps due to this issue, it was a huge let down Lego I don't know how u missed that it is clear as Crystal.

But with the negatives aside its truly an amazing set and am glad to have it in my collection and wish for further large lego sets you thing of small details.

An amazing build but...

I bought this set for my mum for Christmas, over the years she has collected all of these large sets and find real enjoyment in them.

This set is completely spoilt by the fact that it is printed on black paper, it is almost impossible to see the pieces, and not just for my mother, the whole family complained about the colour of the pages.

Lego you really need to revert back to printing on light coloured paper.  Yes, from a design perspective it might sound good to print on black but from a build perspective it is bad, and spoils the set.

Why Black Pages

First things first, it is a blast to build this magnificent piece. However, when I started on the taller side (from box #3), the structure is insanely unstable compared to box #1 and #2.

I enjoyed every bit when I was building it, but it is so frustrating that the stability of certain pieces are sub-par. Compared to the other builds I have built (I've only built the Saturn V and technic land rover before), this build is certainly below the lego standard.

Important notes: 1. the online instruction manual is incorrect, bag #29 is labeled as in box #3, however it is really in box #4, this will cause a lot of unnecessary worries if you're following the online instructions.

2. The 1x4 cube is misplaced from bag #32 into bag#26, I had an extra piece for bag 26 but one missing in #32.


Overall, I had a lot of fun building this piece, however, this piece is going to be a headache if you ran into any problem with piece falling off (like I did)

Great build! but insanely fragile.

I was really excited when Lego announced this set, it looks great. But the build is really repetitive, you will spend a lot of time rebuilding bits as you're putting it together and I had to order 4 missing parts and 3 replacement parts for the wrong ones in the set. Overall very disappointed with this set for the money.

Very dull, several pieces missing

I love building my LEGO sets right as soon as I get them and don't like to stop until I finish them. Knowing this set would take a lot longer than normal I was excited to build it. I was just about to finish it on my third day when I realized that there was a piece missing. That caused me to stop and have to order the piece and wait almost two weeks for that part to come in. Finally today I got the piece and was able to keep building only to realize that in the next bag I had 3 pieces missing now and had to stop building again. I sort all my pieces very carefully so I know that I simply did not lose it or throw it away. Just very frustrating that it is missing so many pieces and now having to wait another two weeks to start building again. Reading other reviews I've noticed I am not the only one either. So just keep in mind that you will probably have to order more pieces if you buy the set and the fun of building it will be crushed once you come to that first piece you are missing.
