This was a great item to have during the Lockdown of Covid19. You have to take your time on it. Don't rush. If you miss one little detail you will be starting all over again. It was a great way to relax and spend the day.  Very cool looking too. I would not recommend for children under 12 as the pieces are very small.

Let go my Lego

It all started between that weird period between Christmas and New Year, when your not really sure what to do, we planned a shopping trip to Center MK for the day. 
After some lunch and a little window shopping we popped in to the Lego store to spend some of that Christmas money. 
I walked through the door and looking at the sets and did my normal "yeah that's nice, yeah one day darling, well you'll have to see for your birthday!"
Then I see it, as the crowd seperated through a little window I see the distinctive shape of the VW Beetle. My eyes were glued to it, I push women and child out of the way to get closer. After about 5 minutes of trying to explain to my partner how cool this is she said "why don't you get it, you love helping the kids with theirs". "Don't be silly I'm 34 I can't buy Lego for myself" "why not?" she replied, it of seemed like forever but over in second as the adult part of my brain and the child side were in a fight to the death. Then the excitement really started to build as I instinctively grabbed the box marched to the till and stood there patently waiting to be served, leg tapping and a little impatient bobbing up and down like I really need to go to the toilet. Proudly in my VW jacket. 
I gave the young lady the set with a beaming smile, I'm sure she could sense my excitement "would you like a bag sir?" (she could of said young man and i wouldnt of noticed) "No thank you" (the adult part of my brain and to step in after losing the last round, after all the contents are all ready in there own form of a carrier!).
So after finally buying a Lego set for myself after 20 years of being a grown up, I started with this set.
I was walking around the shopping centre like a child carrying my big box of Lego, making sure people didnt get too close, eagled eyed for that potential theif. 
I couldn't wait to get home. The drive seemed to take forever every Sunday driver, every slow pony pulling out in front of you or not pulling out in the case of junctions.
1 hour 10 minutes later we arrived home. All the normal rules and procedures which I normally sound like a Sergeant Major "shoes off, put them away!" "Coats off, hang them up" all forgotten (the kids where in shock, but this gave me the advantage of the prime space on the dining room table). 
I opened the box (coat still on) to find Lego has changed and for the better. I used to open a box and have one big bag of bricks, studs and any special pieces fall everywhere and invariably loose some under the fridge! 
However now neatly numbered bags nice one I thought, but the greatest surprise is the handy tool for fixing any errors, about time I thought I've swallowed a couple one bricks and studs in my time, perfect I thought. 
So I started to build. 
I won't go in to the details of how I did it, after all you only follow the instructions, but five hours later I stepped back and admired my genius, I am a Lego builder again.
What a great set to start with and now as I write this review (my first as you can probably tell!) I'm looking at my next conquest the VW T1 Camper Van.
I'm hooked... :)

20 year wait

LEGO

What fun building this, the most elaborate of the six LEGO sets I have built since discovering these engineering masterpieces just a couple of months ago.

Very solid structure throughout the vehicle, and the assembly process became more enjoyable as the features came together. All the while, memories of our family's 1964 move from Michigan to Florida in one of these, our baby brother riding in the very back cubbyhole (where the beach towel is stored in the model).

Here is a build tip: When applying the Azure Blue window stickers, the back window stickers number 17 should be placed such the edge of the color aligns with the outside and top edges of the window. The (rear) side window stickers numbers 3 and 4 should be aligned such that the edge of the color aligns with the rear and top edges of the window. The (front) side window stickers numbers 1 and 2 should be aligned such that the edge of the color aligns with the top edge of the window. Tweezers really help this process. The instruction step illustrations (especially for stickers 3 and 4) show the color edges slightly back from the window edges, which is how I applied them, but I think the stickers would provide a slightly better blended look with the "body" of the vehicle as it seems to appear in the pictures on the front of the instruction book and on the box.

The enjoyment of LEGO for me is in the building (slowly so as to savor the experience) and displaying of these wonderful sets. Do I play with them? Well, it is fun to inspect the spare tire, ensure that the gas cap is tight, check the engine's belt, adjust the mirrors, tilt the seats forward to check for spare change, see what's in the cooler, and ensure that the alignment is in order by rolling the vehicle forward and backward. Do those things count as playing?

Great Nostalgia

I bought it when I was in vacation in legoland last week. At the moment I saw the box, I knew I would buy it. When I got back home, I started building it. It is so much fun, especially doing it with my daughter together. She has lots of sets in friend series and started her first set when she was around 2 years old. 
Every part is well produced. All the bags were labeled in number 1, 2, and 3. Each component of the car is well designed and brings lots of fun to myself and my daughter. She has been playing it with some minifigures for two days. 
There were two things I had while I was building it. First, the rubber string or timing belt of the engine. It doesnt drive the parts when I rotate one of them. It would be much better and playable if the engine could be more complex. 
Second thing is for some reason, one of the grey roof tile is missing. I checked every bag and my work table and could not find it. I eventually used one of the my daughter's spare rood tiles to fill it in.

A really great set

A very fun build. I love all of the details in the design. I highly recommend this as a nice companion to the Volkswagen camper and the Mini. For those having issues with the surfboard not staying on, you have to slide the two rubber bumpers over to the right against the surfboard and it will stay where it is supposed to be.

A fun build

This Lego set is one of the best! I bought it when it was for VIP's only. I love this Lego set! When my mom came home I showed her my collection. My Mom was like wow! I enjoyed building it a lot! This set was very easy for me to build. I think I might get the Porsche next. I love Lego!

Amazing!

This set was very enjoyable to build, and, unlike some other complex sets, is also fun to play with. It looks very accurate to real life (except for a strange triangle behind the rear window), and has some cool details, such as the VW fuel cap and front logo and a very nice beach kit, along with the features listed on the page. It also looks great in photos! All in all, it's one of my favorite sets, as this is an almost perfect fusion of two of my favorite things; the VW Beetle and Lego.

This is certainly fun to build; enough effort to keep you interested but not especially complicated usually. There;s a few spots where is tricky to see what stud a piece is actually on in the instructions but for the most part it wasn't that hard. The surfboard is a really clever "studs in middle" construction.

Only negatives (and they're very minor): nothing really secures the surfboard to the roof other than gravity, and it can easily slip off. The luggage rack is a little flimsy and difficult to get and keep straight. The car doesn't steer. And well very minor thing, but I think trans-clear pieces would have been better than trans-blue to stand in for ice.

But none of that really ruins my enjoyment of the model; it looks great and is really fun to build! Even comes with spare stickers, a few spare small parts in case you lose some, a brick separator, and options for 4 different sets of license plates (California, USA; UK; Germany; and Queensland, Australia) that are all era appropriate to the early to mid 1960's.

The beetle is iconic and lego have broadly done justice to this legendry motor car. It is a nice bright colour and gives you plenty of useful blue pieces with some great VM logo printed round pieces.

The build is relatively easy, just need to pay close attention to some of the curve fittings around the wheel arches but I would not call this an expert set by any means. I took a leisurely approach on and off during an afternoon and was finished within 4 hours. The surfboard just slides of; they did not add any way to secure this but a tiny blob of Blu-tac has solved this.

I did whoosh it about on the floor a bit as it was too tempting not to. Looks nice and the curves and shape has been captured well.

Overall it is a great addition to the camper van, the Mini and the Ferrari line up.

Good addition to the vehicles line-up.

Was missing ALOT of pieces. Had to call LEGO and wait weeks for the pieces to get here in the mail.
