I watched a couple of the video reviews of this set before building. I think this set is underappreciated. The playability in this set is very high - my son couldn't stop playing during the build. Moreover, he was adding extra pieces to the "undercity" because even that area has some potential.

The designer did a great job creating a model where the play spaces flow together smoothly and logically. The hallways that connect areas are not wasted space - they actually enhance playability. My son had confrontations taking place in the halls, but, thanks to the corners, was setting up figures to peek at the confrontations so the heroes could plan a rescue.

When you look at this set in the store. Let your eye follow the path of the heroes in the story. The set helps create that path almost perfectly. It even adds in a few extra surprises.

I found the carbon freezing chamber to be particularly brilliant with the swap-out action.

The only downside, of course, is the price. Star Wars sets are priced at an unfortunate premium which makes them less accessible compared to other sets.

Underappreciated Set

LEGO

I have been a fan of both LEGO and Star Wars since I was five. One of my favourite locations in the Star Wars universe is Cloud City, so when this set was announced I was both excited and concerned. Excited because I finally got to have my own Cloud City. Concerned because it was a play set rather than a UCS set like I purchase nowadays. I couldn't resist though, and I am NOT disappointed. Yes, it's a play set, and guess what -- that's what makes it so great! I'm a rather reserved adult who enjoys the build experience of the UCS sets, and have them very nicely displayed in my home office, but with this set I can't help myself from actually playing with it. I'll probably tinker with designing an outer shell for it so it can be displayed more like a model when not being played with, but it's great as-is. It invites play. There are so many areas in one model covering all the key scenes. It is very smartly designed. It also has a generous number of cool and rare minifigs. So, in summary, don't hesitate if you're on the fence about this set. Go ahead and spoil your kids, or your inner child, and enjoy it for what it is -- a fantastic play set of an iconic Star Wars location!

Great Play Set... and that's a good thing!

This was a Christmas present to our whole family and have had a great time building the set, and playing with it as well! The piece count versus the cost is a bit steep but judging from what you get for the money it isn't complete unreasonable. We love the multiple rooms where you can stage different scenes from the movie and then shift to another. We have used some figures from other sets to have multiple areas "fully stocked" but that is not necessary as the mini-figures are very good. The gem is Fett figure! The printed arms look great - a nice touch Lego! The build was pretty straightforward and not as repetitive as with the Death Star. There stickers were not too much of nuisance and they go well with the set. The carbon freezing chamber looks really good and works very well. We did do some home mods to it to make it look a bit more movie like but that was mainly driven by use watching the movie while building the set. All in all a great set and looking forward to future master builder sets!

A Great Play Set

Been waiting for this set for years & it did not disappoint super mini figs good build really a must for episode 5 fans only 3 things i would say that let this set down is han in carbonite needs updating Leias hair with her dress needs to be different & needs more ugnaghts but other then that very good

The empire strikes back

I thought this was a great Lego set. It was the whole of everything important of Cloud city all in one set. Lego captured a the big detail and all the little ones too. The duel, the cloud city car, the carbonite chamber, the figures, Bobas ship, it was all AWSOME. I had so much fun building this set so that once I started I couldn't stop. the design and layout was great and a definite improvement of the first cloud city. There are some things though that I would like to critique though mostly the chewbaca blaster. I really dont like stud shooters, they make things look bulky and unnecessary, but thats just me. Also the price, I think Lego should drop the price about 50 dollars, Ive seen Lego raise its prices over the years for all its sets and I dont understand why since Lego has pretty much always been a highly profitable company. Regardless, I would give, and have, give this set a 5 Star. It was well done, and they added so much more than the original cloud city set that makes this set great for every one from the collector to the people in it for fun.

Loved it

I love this set for what it is, but I do wish the price wasn't so high. If it came with plates to create an enclosed cloud city for display I would agree with the price but I will say I will be playing and displaying this set for many years and I'm glad they made a better version than the original cloud city but this is not the best. Props to the designer for making this as good as it is. Thanks for the cool sets but try to not make them all so expensive.

Awesome but pricey

The mini-figures selection is awesome! The detail put in to them is amazing. The Cloud Car is a great improvement compared to the older version. I like the size comparison of the Slave One to Cloud City. My favorite mini-fig from this set is the Han Solo with side leg printing.

Great play set.

Bought this set for the vast selection of minifigures, some being unique to this set (ex. Lando). In my opinion this helps make up for price of the set. Also when fully built has fantastic ability to recreate scenes from the Empire Strikes back for display.

Great minifigs and scene re-creation ability

Really loved those minifigs, loved the new Leia, Luke and Lando and loved the new leg printing for Han, amazing printing! I would like to see also an exclusive Boba Fett, Chewie, R2 or C3Po for this set, but I am more than pleased with what I got. The set itself kinda disappointed me, I was hoping for something a bit more displayable and less playable but in the kids point of view, it's a great set. I think the size of the landing pad was a bit of waste of space, it seemed they didn't know what else to put in there so they decided to make a big landing pad. I loved that they were able to fit the most iconic scenes of the movie in the set and were able to fit a small sized Carbon Freezing Chamber ser in it. The ships for me were on point, loved the design of both and loved how they were able to keep the Slave I looking good after releasing the UCS Slave I, great job downsizing it! Another thing I would also liked to have seen was an update to the Carbon Feozw Han Solo mold, it does look good, but the hair piece doesn't match the minifigs hair mold.

Ok set, amazing minifigs

This set has plenty of pieces to play and interact with. The large number of figures and bigger loose pieces give you hours of play time. However, the set really doesn't look very good on its own. I wouldn't recommend this set simply because you would probably have to be under 10 to fully enjoy the playability of the product, but the build difficulty plus the $350 price tag make it impractical for younger children. I was looking forward to this set for a long time. Its a shame. I would recommend purchasing the Millenium falcon instead as it has great playability AND display for around the same price.
