Absolutely love it! Great to get this as I missed out on the original version of this set and honestly I think it is a nice upgrade over that original model.

It does at times feel like a small moon! You really don't get the scale of how big this one is until you're about half way through, it widens and widens as you go. 
Such a lovely build, instructions are like you're building a car, perfectly broken down and illustrated with some nice touches in there. Although doesn't mean it's an easy one, I've made a few mistakes along the way, and it takes a fair bit to resolve, trust me!
But, to Lego's credit, all the bits are there, well organised and numbered, it was a genuine pleasure and delight to build. Spent 2 days with nothing but music and this for company...flew by!
Price wise, yes, it's expensive...but then again, it's a frigging Death Star! The gold standard of Star Wars Lego! And when you consider all the bits and all the time and effort that went into designing it...totally worth it. If you're going to get hung up on the price, I would say get something a little cheaper, but if you can look past it and enjoy it for what it is, you won't be disappointed. One slight thing I'm not a fan of, however, is it being one of the Ulimate Collector pieces...it's not, I wouldn't display it. It's got plenty of play value if you like to play with your sets...but I think I'll deconstruct in the next few days. Spend the time boxing it up nicely for a bank holiday weekend to enjoy again! Go on...treat yourself!

He's headed for that small moon!

I just finished building the ultimate collector's series death star and it is totally awesome. One of my most favourite features are the detention block and the trash compactor.i like how the detention block has a little trap door leading right to the compactor and you can make han, luke, chewie and leia jump in. I also like how the stickers in the detention blocks hallway make it look longer. I also like the hangar bay too and how LEGO revised the diagona. My favourite minifigure is the black suited imperial officer and imperial navy troopers. I strongly recomend this set if you have enough money!!

The battle station is fully operational!!

I am so confused by the negative reviews! Lego is in a tough position because people who did not purchase the previous set probably want a lot of the figures and features of the set that they missed out on. Had Lego designed a drastically different Death Star, those of us who do not have the original set would truly be missing out on incomparable play value! I for one cannot stand it when I have to navigate the secondary market to get figures and sets that my kids really want but that are no longer available. I appreciate this is set for everything that it offers, and I would advise anyone who is interested in a Death Star to go for it!

 If I had to come up with one criticism, it is that the set is only available at Lego.com. Maybe this will change once it has been around longer.

So much to love!

His set is the best of all time. It shows many different scenes from the Death Stars in episodes 4 through 6. I had to get a shelf that was 16" wide just because of the size and it is a great part of my room. It works as a great conversation starter too.

One of the Best LEGO Sets of All Time

I've built several large builds so far and this one has to be one of if not my favorite builds so far. As a big Star Wars fan this set hit all the right points for me, between the build and the scenes it has to offer it was great. It is rather pricy but as a fan of both Lego and Star Wars to me it was worth it especially after it was finished. This set is massive after it's built the pictures do it no justice. The only real con for me on this set was the price point but as I said as a fan it made it worth it. For the most part the build wasn't to challenging but there were some points that did slow me down for a second. This set also came with the best instruction manual that I have seen in a lego set yet, it was very easy to understand. The manual is the largest one I have seen for a set before and is very well printed making it clear. I'm not much of one for doing reviews but this set was so good and has received some negative reviews from some focusing on the cost and not the whole picture that I felt I should write one.

A fun build

This set gets a bad wrap because of the high cost compared to last year's set (which retired early 2016), but otherwise it's a really robust Death Star with a ton of mini-figures, and all the playable areas of the set.

One "gotcha" that it took me a while to notice ... some of the parts seem to be overlooked in the step-by-step instructions. More than once, I moved to the next step, only to noticed that the previous step left out some of the parts. The only way that I was able to catch on, is that the "new/next" step visually showed parts that the previous step had not. This caused me to go back a handful of times to fill in the blanks on my own.

Because I do absolutely agree that this isn't exactly a UCS type of set, and more like a repurpose of last year's set with some minor tweaks, the price isn't exactly justified.

With all that being said, if you don't yet own a Death Star, pick one up. If you do own the previous model, pass on this one and be happy that you paid less.

Great set, gets a bad wrap because of high cost

Ever since I was young, I have always wanted the Lego death star, but the old one was so outdated that I never saved enough to get it. Once this one came out, I knew I had to get it. It doesn't deserve All the hate, just because it is $100 more. It has so many minifigs and big plates that are worth more than 10 cents per piece. I just wish it could have had a little more updates such as remodeling some of the interior. They could have put some grey pieces to put on the emperor's stairs, like the Death Star final duel set had. Also the trash compactor leaks pieces a lot. That's why I fixed those things!

Great set

This set is a minor upgrade of the previous Death Star, with one of the biggest updates being in the form of updated minifigures. The set itself has incredible play value!

Display value is okay, but since the original set's release many years ago, lots of new parts and building techniques have been implemented, and things like the stair-stepping could have been minimized. Being able to remove modules would have helped with play a bit, too.

The major issue with this set is the price point. With fewer parts than the recently released Disney Castle, this set costs $200 CAD more. I'm aware that themes, other sets, and piece counts are not directly comparable, but this price point is still significantly higher than it seems like it should be.

Over the previous iteration of this set, factoring inflation and the new updates, this price point still doesn't seem to stick.

This set comes with a lot of minifigures, most of which are not exclusive to this set (or won't remain so). The parts aren't all that unique... lots of common grey and black. Nothing wrong with that, but again takes away from the justification of the price-point.

It's a wonderful set. It's just seems overpriced.

Side note: personally, I'd prefer if the UCS label was used for models that have more display value than visible play value. It seems like there's been a shift to brand all of the higher priced sets as UCS this year, and I wish there could be a shift back. Just one ultimate collector's opinion!

If you have the money, by all means, buy this set!

Great Play at a Steep Price

For me this whole set was just a tick box exercise to have a death star with the Disney logo on the box. lets be clear this is simply the previous death star re-branded and re-packaged. I was hoping for something new or significantly bigger and better. 250 pieces more in my eyes is not that. For me this was a great opportunity wasted and smacks of pure laziness
