i really love this set once i seen it in the store i knew i had to have it my grandmother bought this for me once i started building it i knew it was gonna look so cool displayed and it does had some trouble with it tho but got past it had to restart the build but did it fast i know this set is gonna look way cooler next to other sets had a lot of fun building it definitely worth it overall love it amazing set

yeah a lot of talk of too many x wing legos, but the detail on this is 2nd to none. must have for any star wars ship lego builder. some pieces fall of easily, BUT not meant to be loved around, held or played with. it is HUGE so doesnt fit on shelf. but who wants to shelf this beauty? put it out on a table so your wife or girlfriend complains! lol but you can admire!

Excellent build, great display piece. The accuracy to the movies is breathtaking, and I think the way Lego designed the blasters and engines is clever, to say the least. Building the four wings took up the majority of the build, which made the second half quite repetitive for those seeking technical variety. Others have complained about the final product being fragile, can't say I agree; I'm able to pick up and move the set around my series of displays with no real issue. The folding mechanism for the wings could be better designed, I don't think the rubber band + gear set up works tremendously, and it takes more effort than I'd like to switch their position. Would've also liked to see a landing gear display option similar to the Razor Crest or Falcon, but the stand does it's job sufficiently. Overall, however, this is an iconic and enjoyable build for Star Wars fans at any level, and certainly looks wonderful on display!

Awesome display piece, but...

The end product is amazing and very impressive, but the wing mechanism is so weak and finicky. Turning the knob is not satisfying at all and seams to work half the time. Not to mention you guys have me multiple wrong and missing pieces. The set didn't even include the pieces for part of the stand and gave me multiple wrong size tile pieces for the side plating. Not happy with the building process.

I read the other reviews and thought about purchasing it before it retires but my experience was similar to the other reviews.

It starts of well with a solid technic body but after that it becomes a very fragile and frustrating build.  The side panels are not very secure so once you have built the main body and stand it is better to construct it on the stand and not touch it afterwards.  Even a gentle touch can cause the side panels to come loose, they are held in place rather than secured in place.

As long as you build it on the stand it is fine but don't touch or hold the model otherwise it will break.

Not the best design, flimsy and fragile

LEGO.  Play Well.  Not with the 75355 X-Wing you won't!  For the first time ever we have a Lego model that does not invite exploration.  I have been building Lego for more than 50 years, encouraging our children, our friends' children, anyone in fact, to do the same.  When this model came out  I bought it immediately and then unearthed my old 72158 X-Wing that had grown faded and dusty with age.  I took it apart, washed all the parts and reassembled it.  Great fun and I was looking forward to building the new model.  I have given the 75355 a generous 3 stars because, when built it is a very elegant model.  But the build is just too fragile, especially when the junction between the nose cone and the side panels leaves them flapping in the breeze.  Other users have already disclosed many of the design faults so I won't dwell on these, but I will say that, in the end and for the sake of my sanity, I glued some of the structures that support the side panels.  This means that  when the panels do fall off I do not have to re-construct half the model.  I was initially intrigued by the apparent sound design and novel method of raising and lowering the wings, which I thought might be a significant improvement on the original.  Alas, as before, they are either fully open or fully closed.  Can I hope for a new, improved model some time?  Surely, everyone loves an X-Wing!

I hold Lego to the highest level of quality when it comes to their sets and that's why it's always on the more expensive side and I'm okay with it because the quality is always top tier but this one is a low for Lego and out of the hundreds of sets I've built this one was by far the most difficult and frustrating one to build. It's too delicate and the exterior is not at all structurally sound, trying to attach the wings properly without having anything to hold because if I did it would easily fall off was not an enjoyable time and every time I'd try and fix one problem another would just fall apart making the repetitive process even longer. The good thing about this set is now it's finished it does look very good on display but I wouldn't dare touch it ever again

Personally the worst Lego building experience

This set does not meet the usual LEGO standards. The side panels have very weak connections to the body. I built it up to the ninth bag (out of ten), but at that stage the panels and several other pieces started coming apart. I expect more stability and durability from LEGO products.

Very poor connections

To understand this review, I think it's important to understand the context.  The Lego UCS X-Wing is not only an iconic Star Wars image, it's also the OG UCS Set (7191).  It's basically the flagship model.  It's a big deal and it comes with high expectations.

As a lifelong Lego fan, I've always wanted a UCS X-Wing, but I missed the first couple.  I was absolutely thrilled when this one came out, and I had high hpes that I think are reasonable given the legacy of the UCS X-Wing.  I was stoked to pre-order it, and more excited about it than any of the other UCS sets I've ordered.

This set - I hate to say - is a flop.  It's not terrible in an abstract, fully removed sense, but given what a UCS X-Wing should be, it's a miss.  It compares poorly against other UCS sets.  The flaws are so numerous, and so obvious, that in my opinion it should have never shipped.

1) The stand breaks.  If you ask, Lego will ship you some additional pieces to fix it.  Still, ridiculous.

2) You can't fit a minifig in the cockpit.

3) The wings / aspect ratio are just... off.  You can lengthen the wings by one stud and it helps, but you shouldn't have to.

4) It's incredibly fragile.  Arguably others are fragile too, like the Snowspeeder, but the Snowspeeder is awesome in other ways and still more durable than this.  The X-Wing's got a bunch of pieces that just fall off if you touch them.  Zero play value, even given low expectations for playing with a UCS set.

5) The wings sag if not in X position, so you can't really pose it.  I always liked the vibe of the non-attack-position X wing, but nope.

6) The wing gears loosen over time due to a bad design, and feel sloppy when adjusted.  They depend on a plate on the top maintaining tension, and it has a tendency to push up and detach.  Not very obvious when it happens, making the set feel imprecise.  

7) The greebling on the exterior, and the general detail, is lower than sets like the Snowspeeder, Tie Interceptor, and Y Wing.  

8) A lot of visually important pieces are attached by one stud, so they get misaligned.

I'll note that a lot of these issues have community fixes.  But that says something; they're all pretty much all fixable, but simply weren't.  I have no idea what happened behind the scenes, but the result feels rushed, sloppy, unfinished.  Just a bummer.

It deserves the overall low rating, unfortunately, and I wish the designer had done better.  This is the only UCS set I have that I can't recommend.

A Disappointment

This kit was expensive and I have not experienced a more frustrating build. My experience is not unique judging by the reviews. I would not have purchased if I'd read them beforehand. Not sure I have the patience to complete this kit. A first for me. Very disappointed.
