For 13yo birthday, time consuming! Challenging, good for focusing on something detailed after a lazy summer

Super craft/toy combo

Great set !! A must have for any Technic builders.. There is a yellow colored half bushing on top of the mini 4 cylinder engine on the model and it seems to be out of place and if you just flipped the axle where the color half bushing is now mounted on the bottom of the axle and make sure you put the gray colored cap/bushing on top. Now roll your model on a flat surface and hear and feel the taps and clicks . The model now would roll without stopping

Lego 42112 Cement Truck

My favorite technic build so far. Directions were clearer than other builds. The colors are better than others. The moving pistons are awsome. The actual drum movements are very cool. Only thing bad is the hand crank for the concrete drum comes off to easy. Needs a  longer piece that sticks out from the actual handle, like they do on the tires.

Great technic set

Although a little tricky to build at a few points, the end result is fantastic! Very cool that you can choose to have the drum turn automatically with the wheels or with the hand crank (or not at all - thanks for the neutral option as well). Steering mechanism very similar to the Mobile Crane, nice and smooth. The pistons moving with the wheels is a fun little touch (although you wouldn't normally want the pistons in the passenger cab, at least this way you get to see them moving). I'm not a fan of lots of stickers, but was able to get these on okay (long thin ones create the most difficulty). My only quibble is that there should a brake (maybe include chocks?), since the truck moves a bit when you use the hand crank unless you hold it. Highly recommended!

awesome functional concrete truck

Got this for xmas, fun to build, took my time and spread it over a few days. Not as complicated as the crane but still interesting, love the 3 drive mode options, and once again lego excelled with gearing and drive shaft operation, would highly recommend this model

concrete mixer truck

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I work with concrete mixer wagons almost every day, so my siblings thought this would be be the ideal gift for a recent "big birthday", combining my passion for all things construction with my life-long love of Lego. 

Enjoyable to build, with clever gearings for both driving and mixing/discharge of the drum, as well as the rack & pinion steering. 

Not too much of  a challenge but a great way to spend the odd 30-60 minutes each day for a week or so. My 8yr old grandson would have found it tricky, but in another year or so, he'd be more than capable.

Great play value too, both for me and the grandchildren but....

The upper hopper is missing, the hopper that's used to feed aggregates *into* the drum when the wagon is loading at the batch plant. 

It's a technical detail, maybe, but it really should have been included on what is a premium model, and it would make it so, so much easier for these older, clumsier hands to add the "concrete" to the drum when the kids are playing.

I'm looking into how I can fashion one for myself - it just keeps bugging me that such a simple part is so patently missing from an otherwise great bit of kit.

Almost but not quite

Nice build added a motor to turn the drum and was easy to do, replace the Gear shift ring with a M-Motor #8883 and fit a battery box #8881 to the back of the cab. This requires moving the steering inside the cab out of the way of the battery box see posted images.

Add Power Functions

Here's a new type of truck with its top. Nice to mount model, beautiful colors and interesting functionality of the concrete mixer, with its inner wall equipped with a spiral; the small elements delivered in addition brings the sound! Too bad that the top is composed of only two large elements; one could have imagined a multi-piece construction, with the challenge of keeping the overall shape. The 4-piston engine tends to hang up: this comes from the piston rods which, pushed by the crankshaft, are hardwired and wedged very slightly at the entrance of their housing: they do not slide in a totally linear way; to remedy this inconvenience, the part of the rod sliding in its housing (the housing in fact) must be longer than the part outside the housing; it also has the advantage of with the crankshaft, avoiding to the rod to deviate. See in the photo to reduce the stroke of the pistons, the alternative effect of rising / falling remains preserved.

An original truck!

This was a fun build and I enjoyed putting it together. The functions all work very well. It does come with quite a few stickers. They are not hard to put on but just a minor inconvenience during the build. They do add finer detail which makes the model look good.

Despite that, I would rate this 4 stars for the following reasons:

1. The turning radius is not great (compared to the mobile crane with similar size). However, it is easy to fix by removing some parts. I think this was a bit sloppy from design perspective.
2. Six of the light blue 4x4 angular beams had different shade of color then the rest. Was easy enough to order replacement.
3. Value. This set has less part count than the mobile crane, but is more expensive (May be due to 2 large drum pieces).

I would still recommend this set as it provides quite a good play experience (which one would expect from the technic set) and the colors are quite pleasing as well
