The set is great overall, most of the functions work well, it looks good, but the pneumatics are sometimes a bit finicky  (I may have built something wrong), and the strings were very frustrating to tie off but once on they work great. Even with those minor cons I still think this is an amazing set, especially for the price, and I would absolutely recommend this to anyone that wants a very functional set, with an appropriately complex build.

Amazing, but a couple issues

Day after release and it was the last one on the shelf.  So pleased I got there when I did.

What a great build. Some tricky little bits but really well engineered and designed.

The pneumatics (first Technics I've done with these) are great and work well.

Decided against the stickers as they're a bit garish for me.

Top value too.

Brand new and a superb set

What a set! If you want a set that is full of great technical features (such as hand of god steering, pneumatic functions, winches, etc) but at a price that's appropriate then this is for you. Plus it's big, nearly two feet long. I found the stickers to be fine but a bit too much visually so I chose not to apply a few of them. If I were a kid I'd definitely use them, though! There was a bit of difficulty at times with attaching the pneumatic hoses but the end result is worth any struggle.

The best of Technic

I have done a LOT of Lego sets, UCS, technic, Star Wars, etc.  This set is one of the few I have done that I believe was worth more then I paid for it.  All the functions, the look, the build and enjoyment of just seeing it on display make it one of my all time favorite builds.  Sure you will get the haters on the color and the amount of stickers, but people please.  If there is any downside it's the time it takes to turn the gears to raise or lower the moving parts.  I made a couple mods to make that a little faster, as you can see in the pics, and cmon, what tow truck doesn't have chains.  When this set becomes available again, GET IT, you won't be disappointed.

Worth more then the price

Pneumatically operated Lego Technic sets have become a bit of a rarity over the last decade so I was keen to see what this truck had to offer, I wasn't disappointed.

An expert blend of mechanically operated functions such as the lifting axle, the outriggers,  the rear boom lift, the slewing jib and of course the steering - all of which consumes the first two sets of numbered bags. These wonderful mechanisms are then complemented with the Pneumatically operated jib and tail lift.

The set is very cleverly detailed with lots of minor assemblies required to create aesthetic features which mimic the real thing.

For the expert builder, lots of variety in the parts list, not many new elements.  For the enthusiast, loads of playability in this set with dual winches and alternate sheaves to lift and pull simultaneously. 

I wish lego would do more Pneumatically operated sets.

One of the best pneumatic sets yet

I just recently got into building these kits since my wife bought me the Mustang for an xmas gift. I've since built the Defender, Lamborghini and the Porche 350gt.
I always enjoy seeing how they figure out the mechanics of each model. This truck is pretty cool in that department. The pnuematics on this model is really neat. It's a fairly straight forward build, alot of neat details for the price.
These kits are great for keeping your mind and hand coordination sharp. A really enjoyable build. The instructions are always top quality. Now I'm keeping my eye on the bulldozer.

Awesome Mechanics

I enjoy the Technic sets and when I saw this I had to buy it.  It has so many features!  Having the ability to pump up the air pressure and then watch everything it does when you move the levers is amazing for the price of it!  Every adult friend that has seen it had to play with the different functions and they were like kids again!  I have to admit that I was too!  If you can't tell already, I love this set and will never get rid of it!

This is a favorite of all my builds!

Mark my words: this set will go down as one of the greatest LEGO Technic sets ever. 1. great value for the money(Pneumatics, 2 differentials, turntable, 6 linear actuators, lots of the new Technic beams, 8 wheels, etc) 2. lots of functions. It really packs a lot inside a small area 3. its beautiful. No other Technic truck has had better looks since the AirTech Claw rig. I'd say buy as many as you can, you wont regret it

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This truck has looks awesome and has lots of pieces i got this as a christmas present for my daughter so havent opened it yet but got it at a great price as it was on offer.

Lego truck

Lego made this highly identical set 15 years ago (the 8285). The air system is manual both sets but this is 15 years after 8285. Why lego won't even improve any mechanism other than a paint and sticker. What a shame of lego
