This butterfly key security works excellently. Nobody can kick your door in to get in. Of course it all depends on the strength, structure, and material that your door is made from. But if your door is not that strong, this butterfly key will at least buy you some time to either get away or call for help while the intruder is breaking down the door. Also, this butterfly key leaves indentation marks in wooden doorfames and it also chips off paint. This usually happens with use over time. If you are renting, your landlord will make you pay for the damages. In order to prevent this from happening, tape a small piece of latex material to the area of the door AND doorframe where they meet with the butterfly's metal parts. Dishwashing gloves should work just fine as they are latex. Double up the pieces just to be on the safer side. Also, this key will not work on all doors. If the door is very wide, there will not be enough space between the door and doorframe to affix the key properly. It just won't fit at all. And if the door is too narrow, you will still be able to install the key however, there will now exist too much space between the door and doorframe. This is definitely a security concern because the extra space will allow intruders to jostle the door and kick it down quite easily. In summary, this butterfly key will only be most effective if it is installed into a door that has the perfect dimensions. It can't be too wide or too narrow. Lastly, the key is good for using whenever you're away in a hotel room. But just remember to take into consideration the damages it can leave behind too.

Only works effectively depending on conditions

I've read several reviews about this lock more commonly referred to as a "Butterfly Lock" on other sites and many of them claimed the lock was not a secure-enough system to keep intruders out. However, after trying it out on my door I strongly disagree with all those negative reviews. I attempted to open up my door after affixing this lock and my door would not move. It felt like the door was welded shut to the door frame. So, I was extremely pleased with how effective this little lock performed to keep out potential intruders. Having said that, there are a few drawbacks with the lock. If the door is too wide it will be impossible to install the lock between the door and doorframe. There is not enough room to install the lock. And if the door is too narrow the lock can STILL be installed however, there will be a space between the door and lock. The lock will still work to keep out any potential intruder.  BUT due to the extra space that now exists, it will not work at 100%. However, it will buy you time to call for help or escape through another route if possible. Another drawback to the lock is that it will create an indentation in the door and doorframe with daily use overtime. It will also chip paint. This is something to consider especially, if you are renting a house, apartment, room, Air B%26B, or a hotel, or motel room. The landlord might charge you for the damages. A solution for this can be using a silicone fabric to cushion the part of the door and doorframe where the metal parts of the lock latch onto. Dish washing gloves might be a good choice. You can cut out small pieces of the glove and then tape them onto the parts of the door and doorframe where the metal parts of the lock meet. Perhaps even double layering of the silicone material may give even better protection of the wood. Aside, from everything that I just explained, the lock works very effectively to keep out any potential intruders. Having said that, it also depends on how thick and strong the door is too -- this is a factor. And hopefully, your doors are thick and strong.
