I have used Venta humidifiers for over 20 years. Having a humidifier in a house which has central heating or, as in my case, a wood stove too, is essential. This one is better for me than the smaller ones. I wish the fitting of the top onto the base was not so delicate- one can ruin the unit by not putting it back on correctly. But it's not a deal-breaker- not so hard. It seems best to use the additive too.

Well it's been doing exactly what we purchased it for since last weekend.  We are in a 1800sqft condo and extremely dry in winter.  This unit situated centrally has balanced our environment to 40% humidity nicely. Easy to use, easy to fill. Quiet.  Quiet too.

Quality product. Works as it should

This is my second LW 45. The first one lasted 30 years and ran 24/7, 4 months out of the year. I've always been impressed with the quality and performance of Venta. There's not another humidifier/air washer in the same league, in my opinion.

Loyal Dental Customer

This is my second LW45.  I still operate my first one, but I needed a second one for my bedroom.  It's quiet enough that I can sleep and the extra humidity prevents my nasal passages drying out and the problems that can cause.

Thus is our 2nd Venta and when I saw them on sale I jumped to buy the larger one for our family room. Really easy to clean and maintain, no distilled water required and no filters!

Love this humidifier!

I am thrilled to have discovered the LW45 Original Humidifier - Black.  In fact I have purchased a second one.  I did this ensure that I would be able to maintain at least 40% RH in my studio.  
This humidifier is a standout in that it can be refilled with tap water.   As it requires 2 gallons daily I cannot imagine having to provide distilled water in that quantity.  Its extra price is well worth it.  It is quiet at its highest setting, and it is very attractive to view.  The best!  Thank you Wirecutter for including this as part of your research and recommendations for humidifiers.

The best!!!!

I purchased this model about 10 years ago, I live in MN and have hot water heat, it gets so dry in the winter months due to the cold.  The L45 unit is in the common spaces. I loved it so much I purchased a smaller one L25 for our bedroom.  I know when they need to go out in the fall as soon as I start waking up with a dry nose.  It really does clean the air since there is debris in the unit everyday when I refill.  I love that there are really no bells and whistles to break or to constantly be purchasing (ie filters).  I also appreciate that you cannot over humidify the house which can cause health issues. During the coldest part of the winter I refill both everyday.  Worth every penny.

Humidity & Durability

I'm pleased so far with the unit, however I wasn't expecting to have to refill it so frequently. I expected each week but it is more like every 3 days.

Good, but more work than I expected

This is my third Venta humidifier. The original one is about 9 years old and has the mechanical start/stop buttons and is still working fine. The second one was approximately 3 years old when the automatic start/stop button failed and was discarded . I hope the latest one lasts as long as the original one.🙏.

Reliability

It performs poorly even in a small room; the full tank has still not been evaporated over the course of a week at 29% humidity and a temperature of 22 °C. The water is purified by reverse osmosis.
