I've never written a review ever for any company and so this one is a doozy...  I am in such disbelief that you changed the rash guard fabric of this staple product in my (and many families) family.  I've been buying your boys' and girls' rash guards (and women's swim tees) for about 15 years.  I love that you have the husky and plus sizes for children who like a looser fit, are self-conscious of body hugging swim fabrics, or who might have a fuller body shape.  The rash guards have been a necessity in our fair skinned, prone to sun poisoning and skin cancer family. When the promo codes are great, I stock up on them in multiple patterns and sizes and save for another year... 

Since you sold out of swim trunks by mid-June last year, I'm splurging on all the swim items earlier than usual.  Our excitement over the new colors and patterns this season was short-lived, and we were in disbelief today when the shipment arrived and both long and short sleeved rash guards are made of a thin fabric, that clings to the body like a pair of pantyhose and has a much tighter cut than all the prior years we've bought them.  Yet, the rash guard has the same name it always has - there's no identifying info that indicates a fabric or cut change.  

I actually got the XL Husky, expecting it to be kind of big because last year's XL Husky that I put away for when my son grows, still fits loosely.  But, with this season's new swim trunk colors and patterns, I splurged and let my son pick the matching color/pattern rash guards in XL Husky, expecting a loose fit (and frankly another year of growth).  There's a huge change in the sizing/fit. The XL Husky fits like a Medium Husky.  My son is currently wearing last year's Large Husky and it's not even remotely tight like this season's XL Husky.  

The other reviewer ("what a disappointment") has commented the same thing.  This season's rash guards are running much smaller than last season's larger sized rash guards.   It's not just the cut.  It's the fabric.  It's thin and feels cheap and flimsy.  I'm not sure I believe that it will protect from the sun, at an SPF 50 level.  See photo - Last year's Blue Dino Rash Guard in size Large Husky is 2 inches total wider than this season's Yellow "Multi Palm Trees" XL Husky!  So, the Blue Dino Large Husky is a little loose on my son, and the XL Yellow fits so tight it looks see-through and fits like a Medium or Small. You can also see the reduced mock neck coverage from last season's blue rash guard vs this season's minimal mock neck - it has been reduced from about an inch to half an inch.

So, why mess with what must be a best selling item?  To cut costs?  But you've sacrificed fit and many customers will notice the difference.  Also, no one wants a clingy feeling tight shirt in 90 degree summer weather.  Kids are often sensory too.  My son was embarrassed how tight it was.  It felt miserable to just try the rash guard on.  Even my son knows these rash guards that he has come to rely upon have been the same feel for years.  You've used the same rash guard material for at least 15 years!  I have friends whose toddler's are wearing my children's hand-me-down Lands' End rash guards and they still are in great shape because the fabric was thick and never wears thin no matter how much it's been worn in chlorinated pools or washed in a washing machine!  That's because you had been using a nice opaque, thick, sturdy material, which also fit loosley and did not show every ripple in a chubby child's body or a developing teen.  Kids are often self-conscious and don't want a skin-tight rash guard.  

Suggestion:  Why not help customers by changing the name of the rash guard to let those of us who have been relying on the previous fabric/cut know this is not the same product - sizing, cut, or fabric AT ALL!  The fabric actually seems see-through when it is stretched taut over the child's torso.    These boys' rash guards should be differentiated from last season's model by calling it Boys Short Sleeve Graphic *Ultra-thin* SPF 50 Rash Guard.  You've done similar fabric changes or additions to your line in women's tees where you called the fabric ultra-thin.  Please realize you have a lot of customers who are going to buy these staple rash guards and are going to be shocked by the fabric and cut changes.  I think you need to fix this error.  I'm just relieved I kept a couple of last year's too large rash guards just in case my son grew.

For anyone who wants last year's thicker, looser fit, less clingy fabric: I can see some of them for a good deal still on the website.  It's the boys rash guard that has a fiber content of mostly nylon:  "82% nylon/18% spandex fabric blend won't sag in water" whereas this season's flimsier fabric simply says "Polyester/spandex blend. Hand wash. Imported."  I've checked both rash guards and both were made in Sri Lanka.  However, this year's change polyester/spandex blend, is such a big change that the rash guard feels slimy and my son also noticed a chemical smell.  It isn't as stiff and as the other reviewer noticed the mock neck is MUCH smaller and less sturdy, making the shirt almost like a crew neck so less sun protection.  To be honest, the new fabric and cut makes this more like a polyester exercise shirt you might buy from a sports brand.  It doesn't seem at all up to par with Lands' Ends previous rash guard.  

Lands' End, I hope you find a way to continue making the nylon-based sturdier fabric rash guard and also change the name of this "blend/imported" flimsy rash guard so the buyer can beware.  I had to do a large return today.  The most disappointing part was that my child felt bad because he has gained weight from more than a year at home during the pandemic and canceled sports teams.  It's really bad timing to make your protective swim wear tighter fitting and more see-through....many other kids and adults have put on pandemic weight so this could be an issue for others.  Just my way more than two cents....

Please go back to the prior season's fabric content and cut!

HUGE Mistake to Change Rash Guard Fabric & Fit!

I've been buying Lands End swimwear for my family for about 6-7 years and they've always been great quality. Until this year. This rash guard is thin and cheap-looking. Disappointed. Good thing it was bought on sale.

Daughter in New Zealand was really pleased with previous rash tops I'd sent for her 2 boys who spend most of the summer in and out of pools, rivers, lakes and the sea. They requested short sleeved rash tops this year which I bought on sale at an excellent price, always a bonus!

 Lands' End

First, the sizing is way different from a year ago. Last year, large was a 14-16, this year, surprise, large is 10-12. Even the XL (14-16 from this year is too small. I laid this year's 14-16 on top of last year's  and last year's is 1 inch wider.  Plus no more mock neck to provide that extra sun protection. This is a real disappointment. My son is an adult with intellectual disabilities and small in size. Up until this, the boys husky large and extra large have fit him well.  Maybe no longer.  The garment may be well made (i cannot judge that at this point, but that isn't worth anything if it doesn't fit.

I bought this swim shirt for my 3 year old grandson  who loves pizza, swimming and the color green.  It was a real hit.  And when. 3 year old boy gets excited about clothes that's something.

My son loves the bright colors and design. The rash guard is a nice, thick material. It's perfect for those pool and beach days without having to worry about getting sunburned.
