The LeapStart 3D Learning System has kid friendly features such as a wide stowaway carry handle, push button lock to keep learning system closed and two hooks to keep companion books in place. The volume and on/off buttons are large and easy for my preschooler to find and use. My preschooler was able to use the LeapStart 3D effortlessly and independently. The learning system has iridescent green, blue and orange plastic accents with white textured patterns giving the LeapStart 3D a cheery appearance. 
Initial learning system setup and companion audio was relatively easy. A parent account must be created for initial setup. This is accomplished by connecting the LeapStart 3D to a computer via provided USB port and installing the LeapFrog Connect application. Installation prompts were simple and self explanatory. Device Stickers Companion Audio and Sample Book Companion Audio were automatically installed. Additional companion audio was easy to find by color coded book level, book cover image and orange install button. The entire setup process took about 10-15 minutes.
An informative, colorful and playful 27-page Parent Resource Guide PDF is also provided. It discusses each book level in detail with development insight and a thorough outline of each books skill set. Additional hands-on skills and activities are also included for each book level. 
The LeapStart 3D on-screen animation is full color, short clips that appear with random, predetermined activities creating an element of surprise. My preschooler highly enjoyed these animations. An included sampler book provided a welcome note from LeapFrog, download instructions, learning system features and a variety of pages with different skill sets. My preschooler enjoyed going through each page discovering the variety of familiar characters. The audio is vibrant with cheery character voice overs and whimsical music and sound-effects. Using the stylus was easy for my preschooler with a large body and strategically placed grips. There is a sizable variety of companion books making the learning system useful and entertaining especially for my preschooler to grow with. The LeapStart 3D Learning System is an entertaining and educational mixed media learning system by using physical books, vibrant audio and complementing visuals.

My children LOVE this! I received the products from VTech/LeapFrog free of charge, and would recommend this to everyone with little children. I have 8 year old twins and a 3 year old toddler. My twins had the previous version (without the 3D animation) passed-down from an older cousin, so I was curious to see if it is worth upgrading to the new one when are older version does still work, and yes absolutely 100% yes it is! The animation feature is so awesome! So much so that my older kids were playing with it, too. The short animations are very high quality and adorable. I really love this feature. 


This also has a solid, sturdy handle, which is great because my toddler has absolutely no regard for not breaking things. I feel fairly confident that this will survive him, and most things just don't. There are some activities on the actual product too, so he can play with it even without the books if needed, and it is easy for him to open and close, but stays closed when it should. 


Registering the product was painless and fast, which was good because I usually put-off these things indefinitely. 

I want to get all of the books now! This is a very good product and I am so happy with it.

Very entertaining and highly educational!

My 2 and a half year old loves this product! It's nice to have a toy that is entertaining but educational as well. She loves concentrating on what the books say, and it includes some "games" such as counting, and finding things throughout the book. It keeps her entertained for a while! The product has been provided by VTech/LeapFrog free of chargeso I could experience it with my family; however, the thoughts and opinions are all my own.

Great learning toy!

This is The best learning book out there! This leap start 3D book is amazing! All you have to do is use the magic pens over the words and pictures and it reads the book right to you. It's definitely a great way to get your kids starting to recognizing words. Definitely pick this one up next time you see it at the store!!

Best book yet!

My almost 4 year old is in absolute love. I couldn't get it set up quick enough for her. Like any leapfrog product it's durable and easy for her to carry around perfect for any trip near or far. Another great leapfrog product

My kids have had all the Leapfrog reading/learning systems from the original Read Aloud LeapPad to the Tag and LeapReader Systems and this is for sure my absolutely favorite system so far! My 6 year old is just starting to learn how to read and the LeapStart 3D really helps her get excited and eager to read. I love that the pen is attached to the system so no more lost pen that used to happen a lot with the Tag system. The pen also has two rubber grips on each side so its more comfortable for little hands to hold. It also promotes grip and writing properly. The 3D screen really helps bring the learning to life and is very exciting for my daughter. I also love that it has a build in handle so therefore it makes it great for on the go and travel. Its really easy to install the books too. You first need to install LeapFrog Connect 2 to your computer, connect the LeapStart to your computer with the provided cord, then you can download the books that you have. The process takes less than 15 minutes. I also really appreciated that the inside of the LeapStart had games and activities for my daughter to play with while I was downloading the books and the software. This also isn't a toy where the child is going to get bored with it after a week because there is endless activities and games with 2 levels. So theres always something for them to do. Overall, this is my favorite learning system that LeapFrog has come out with because its extremely interactive and has tons of wonderful features that encourages learning and early reading skills. “The product has been provided by VTech/LeapFrog free of charge so I could experience it with my family; however, the thoughts and opinions are all my own.”

Great interactive learning toy!

My almost 3 years old loves this toy, it keeps him busy and entertained for a long time while he is learning, as a parent it feels great to see how motivated and happy he gets when he accomplishes something new and how motivated he is by counting and talking. Educational and entertaining

I had one of these as a child growing up and I absolutely loved it so I figured my 3 year old would love it too. It turned on for about 3 days but as soon as i plugged it in my computer to register the device, it bugged out. It made a long ringing sound and hasn't worked since. Initially I thought it was dead but I changed the batteries and when I clicked the power button it would flash but I would not get further response.
Overall - WHAT A WASTE OF MY MONEY!!!

They aren't limit the old ones. Now you have to download everything on them. Back in the days they were ready to use when you open them.

It's ok

you have to have internet connection in order to start using a book.  This device only has enough memory for five books   The book it comes with is basically a demo of the books you can additionally purchase.  The 3D is a joke.  I will be returning this product.
