They can also be used in some situations where captive nuts don't work.</li><li>Insert them into the slightly smaller printed holes than the insert and use a soldering iron to melt the plastic around the insert in place. The insert has a slight taper and small fins around which the plastic flows, creating an extremely strong bond.</li><li>Instead of tweaking your design around the limitations of 3D printing (stands, print bed size, etc.), break your parts into individual components that are held in place using these inserts and machine screws. Not only does this give you more flexibility when designing parts, but it also allows you to reprint only failed components instead of complete components - saving time and money.</li><li>The hole size in the product should be slightly smaller than the insert to allow plastic to flow between the vanes of the insert.</li></ul>
