I bought this lego for my spouse's birthday. We have several sets and this one is our favorite to build but also its final look. The fact that it is mainly black still worried us a little but it had no influence. We loved its many Easter eggs that made us smile every time. A real belle construction, fun to do and beautiful to look at! It would be a good idea to have more Shadow Boxes!

If you have ADHD and hyper fixated on building this in one sitting. 13 hours, short of a few 30 second breaks to plug my laptop cord back into the wall when I moved it too far.

Great set, impressed with the hidden compartment and the layout itself. Only wish it had a batwing with it. Could come with a few more characters itself, but it's nice to see that they are doing expansion of the series itself.

I'm Batman

This is just an awesome set. It has presents anywhere you place it. The minifigures are great. For anyone who wants a batcave and does not do MOCs, this is perfect.

Must for Batman Fans

Tons of awesome little details.  Perfect for any batman collector or fan.  Perfect amount of pieces to make your building experience lengthy but not tedious.  Overall great looking set for the shelf lots to look at.

Batcave shadow box

Product is awesome and fun to build and play with. It looks good as a decoration piece as well. Only downside (maybe) is that it doesn't come with a joker figure.

Another fantastic build!! Great set. Loved every minute detail. Such a smooth and satisfying build. The details are phenomenal!! Do not pass this set up!! Everything is great!! Loved the minifigures!! Thank you lego architects!!  You guys are awesome this is only my sixth set I've built and haven't had any problems or disappointments!!! Thank you!!

Shadowbox Batcave

As someone who saw the Tim Burton Batman movies in the theater, and a lifelong fan of the character, I can say that this set is perfectly tailored to people like me. 

It's also very different than many of the builds I've done in the past. The Batcave is such a tricky thing to make an interesting set out of but LEGO nailed it! I was wary of the “big black box” but after seeing some reviews I had to have it. 

My only gripe would be the instructions have some errors and a few places where it's really tricky to see the position and orientation of pieces. Mainly because there's so much black and gray. One of the few times I'd recommend checking the 3D digital instructions for a few of the steps. 

So many other great things about this set. An awesome Batmobile (slightly different than the 8+ one just released), great play features including the iconic light-up armor safe and a really cool Batcomputer display. 

Great minifig collection, too. Though I guess a little more thought could've gone into Max. I would have loved to see him in his masquerade outfit instead of a generic suit. 

I could keep going on but the last thing I'll mention is how incredibly impressive the set is when you open it up. And even closed, the giant Bat-symbol is just gorgeous. 

Now LEGO just needs to put the same creativity into their big 18+ Marvel sets. Or, better yet, give us more DC than just Batman! Fortress of Solitude given the same shadowbox treatment with the “S” logo would be amazing!

Most Unique Build Ever!

This set is so much fun to build. There is lots of different toes of building techniques from gears and knobs to structure to the front of the shadow box, all very unique and not a single bit of it felt repetitive. This is super rare in the larger Lego sets I feel like. There's always a ton of repetition but not in this. Super fun, super unique. I was iffy on the shadow box look at first, but it's soooooo much cooler in person, the pictures don't do it justice.

Very fun and unique build

There were clever bits to the build and I loved the details. However, trying to open it up to see the inside is a nightmare. The V in the center of the front is a terrible, terrible weak spot. Unless you have the kit on a perfectly clean, perfectly level surface, it breaks at that V every time. I use a Bonny Doon hammer to make sure the bricks are securely connected and yet, every time I open this thing, it breaks again. It's just super weak right there. Going to have to figure out how to strengthen it at some point so it can be opened.

Disappointed for the first time

This set is honestly the first one that I've been really disappointed with in over 30 years of LEGO play. Why is there no switch to keep the light element turned on? Why is the Batmobile sliding around? The missed opportunity to have a function to click the Batmobile onto or have a turntable to lift it and turn it around (when the set is fully opened) so it can zoom back out the door was clearly missed. The Penguin and the Max Shreck mini-figs feel like they are extras and don't have a real place they feel right to be displayed within the shadow box. Why isn't there a display or something for the mini-figs like other larger sets? At this price point why are there tiny stickers? (In my opinion this is just plain greed.) The top of the shadow box was also a completely missed opportunity for writing Batman in LEGO when closed and instead the plain and almost dull design is wasted and visually unappealing. The design choice in the build order/steps was also a missed opportunity in ease of assembly and enjoyment, while this order worked, it didn't give the usual enjoyment of a reveal and instead felt like more of a haphazard general order to just get the set assembled. The other gripe I have is the fragility of what makes the shadow box display, in moving it I lightly touched the front and the design elements crumbled. Any builder knows this could have been better designed and re-enforced. Overall, this set was the biggest disappointment I have ever had with LEGO and really makes me re-think and second guess any future purchases at this price point. Please do better.

The first LEGO set I'd return.
