Connection

May require troubleshooting to establish a stable connection.

Can be very powerful, but also has limitations.

Spike Prime is excellent, but expensive. I wish there were a large additional motor in the box. The Spike Prime Expansion Pack is an expensive add on when you've just spent a chunk of money. I wish too they sent out weekly project emails.

The product is great, I am only starting to build some of the projects with my son. I struggled for about a day with the bluetooth connection, had to reinstall some things to make it work, the process should have been smoother.

Great product, some bluetooth quirks

We just got the set and day one we were building prosthetic hands to grab different types of items, testing them, and using test results to determine which prototype was better for everyday use. 10/10 would recommend.

Great start

Little bit on the technical side here, but those who want to code using Micropython might struggle to control 2 or motors motors at once, or 2 routines that must execute asynchronously. This is "easy" with the code blocks, but can be challenging with Python unless you use Async/Await, to which you have access with "import uasyncio." It can be challenging to figure that stuff out, but all in all the processor is very powerfull and its not "just a toy"

More than a toy: supports code with Async/await

I bought this set for my highly gifted almost 6 year old. I was tired of all the coding programs out there for young kids that are basically video games. My son loves building mechanical things hence I thought the Spike set might appeal to him. I was right! There are so many different things to build with this set that it really is worth the money. The way I looked at it was that a coding or robotics class would cost this much and now we have something that can be used again and again. As a former computer programmer, I appreciate that the kids can start off simple and then add more complex coding as their interest and skills grow.

Worth the money!

My son is really enjoying the new Spike Prime. He's happy with the sleeker builds, nicer wheels and overall compactness of the motors and brick. The brick is also so much faster than his EV3 was, and connection to the Spike app to code projects has been super easy compared to the EV3.

We are using this as the main part of our homeschool curriculum this year. There is so much learning happening and the learner is happy and enthusiastic. 
Some parts with the coding are challenging for him at 6 years old but he is learning so quickly.

So much learning

(26JUN2020) The kit is very well built, comes with lots of parts, is well organized, and has multiple build options that allow for a number of (long or short) projects and learning in programming and inventions. The kit uses either Apple, Android or PCs, and works through bluetooth, and charges with a USB Mini-plug. But you need a Mac or PC with windows, in order to update the base's firmware.

There are a bunch of parts, motors, sensor, and bricks to allow many types of projects from simple robotics to moving cars and mechanical assemblies. Plus all of the existing LEGO bricks can be used with these SPIKE products.

Instructions are clearly written, easy to follow, and will provide YEARS of fun. Adult supervision is highly recommended. The provided battery pack (Lithium Ion) needs to be charged for 6 hours after opening the boxes for the first time. Overall, the kit is VERY well designed and provides a young, interested builder lots of things to become interested and excited about.

So we just got this kit, yesterday and the expansion pack for our 12 year old (7th grade) daughter, who is interested in robotics and programming. Also I am a STEM/STEAM grants officer, and this is an AWESOME pack of brick building goodness. We got this to help our daughter "get connected" over the summer, since we're all in lock down with nCOVID-19 restrictions. I'll post updates as the summer goes on, but as a scientist - I think this is a great product, used as a "pre-entry level" to the Mindstorm series of kits.

New Spike Education Prime - IS AWESOME!

Bought for a project. I could have bought Robot Inventor, but choose this instead. The microprocessor is very powerful and uses Micropython, which is great for someone with programing experience. The code blocks are not bad either. To the haters: code block style of coding can guarantee program correctness in more advanced situations, so don't dismiss the idea too quickly. Its kinda like functional programming. The actual processor has sensors(accelerometers) that can tell yaw, pitch, etc. It works very well. The only drawback: the cables cannot be extended and you only get one large motor. That motor is VERY powerfull though. Also, the app for Mac OS needs constant Internet connection. The app for robot inventor is better.  And the Yellow looks cool.

Powerfull if you know how to use it

Does not include all the pieces needed to execute the full range of builds and programmes which it claims, and thus you'd have to buy the expansion pack.
