It just hooks up to your spicket like a water hose.  All the animals here drink out of it including my dog!  It is really great not to worry about the water getting filled up.  I highly recommend it.

The float works like it should so the water level stays where it needs to be and you don't have to constantly fill a trough.  It's nice when you only have a few animals to keep hydrated instead of a huge Trough.  Seems sturdy enough to last a while.

They still get water when I get home but I worry they will be out and might get thirsty. After all they are babies. But... my two dogs keep it busy staying full. This one I have took to my house, hooked it to my hose and they drink constantly. I will be buying the baby goats one this week.

these do not easily connect. i bought 4 so all 4 of my horses had automatic water in their stalls. these connect only 1 to the waterline
