Fine size for my 2 yr old granddaughter.  We bought 4 (50) lb bags of sand as someone recommended, but only used 2 to start which is plenty. Sandbox seems sturdy enough for now. Placed lid aside in grass for about 1.5 hours and apparently the heat this generated killed the grass there.  So when not in use, put the lid somewhere else.  Haven't had high winds, so no weight on lid right now. Lid fits fine.

My mother purchased this sandbox for my 17-month-old daughter and had it shipped to us. It arrived in two days, and we went out that afternoon and picked up 5 bags of sand for it (which we only put 4 in initially since we expect some will end up outside of the turtle). Our little ham LOVES it. Yes, as others have mentioned, the lid is pretty thin, but I find that it makes it much easier for her to lift and remove it on her own when she wants to play in the sand while we're out doing yard work, and we've had no issues with the strong coastal winds of Oregon blowing it off so far. The little turtle feet are the perfect spot for Baby's precious bum to rest upon while she shovels sand over her feet (and into her mouth). My sister also has one of these pups and her kiddo loves it just as much as mine. Will make a great gift in the future.

For the little sand taste-testers in your life

I bought this sandbox for an inexpensive way to keep a 2 year old contained in my uneven backyard. This was a perfect option as he could seemingly spend all day playing in the sand. My 6 year old loves it just as much and has used it every day since it arrived. I bought 3- 50lb. bags of quickcrete play sand but only needed 2.

Big hit

We had a Little Tykes turtle sandbox when our older grandkids were young, and they played in it ALL the time. So when our now 1 year old grandson got old enough, we bought a new one, and he also LOVES playing in it. I personally love the improvement of having seats on the front turtle legs. The only thing I would suggest for future improvements would be to have the same seating opportunity on the back legs. But, when all is said and done, you absolutely cannot get any better reviews than kid tested and approved!

Just like the one that I had when I was a child.  Just your typical turtle shaped sandbox. Not to much to really talk about, as it's pretty straight forward. Soft plastic design makes for a child friendly sand play Experience. Not to big, Not to small. Two 50lb bags of sand is about just right for your 2-4 year old to play in comfortably.

Just like Ole Times

It's small only good for 1 toddler at a time a little flimsy but once sand is in it it's stable don't move. It's perfect for my 12 month old baby to play in. The lid as others said is a little flimsy but not too flimsy. Baby sat on turtle without it caving in so it can handle about 18 pounds of weight on it. I'd suggest no more though. I also have 75 pounds of sandtastic sand in mine. Works well when wet, could fit 25 more pounds of sand but 3 bags of sand seems to be the magic number.

Small but perfect

I bought this to make a sandbox for my dog to dig in. It seems to be made well and I love that it has a removable lid to protect it from moisture. My dog isn't quite sure what to make of it yet but when it's moved outside, the sand and a few toys are added I think he'll change his tune.

Well made and cute too

Purchased for a neighbor child to enjoy. I like the fact that it has a cover so there is no need to worry about the sand staying clean. As others have pointed out the cover is made of pretty thin material, not strong enough for even a small child to sit or climb on, but that is not its purpose. It would probably hold 2 sacks of play sand, although so far we have only put in one. If only it came with a device to keep toddlers from throwing sand...it would be perfect. :)

Serves its purpose inexpensively

In the 80s when I had one of these they were a high quality. Now this thing is thin and I can see through the lid. I understand times have changed and costs have gone up but I feel like I might have been better off with a different model. I'm worried the old is going to blow off of this one or get dented in a heavy rain storm.

It's hard for me to give this a fair review...

Showed up with a piece of the lid broken off, leaving rough plastic for my LO to cut themselves on. Had to return it.  Even if it wasn't broken, the lid just kind of lays on the top with huge gaps on the sides - would work to keep rain out, but not bugs.
