I love cast iron!!!. I needed a nice large piece to cook meat with plenty of room so there is no steaming during browning. Made perfect steaks last night since cast iron goes from stove to oven. Cleaning is so easy, while pan is still warm run under hot tap water and just scrub with a nylon brush. Dry and I spray with some Pam and wipe out excess.

Cast Iron

I love cooking with cast iron and have always wanted a bigger skillet. This is a really big skillet and I love how you can really get a good sear on food. It is easy to clean and you can use it on the stove or oven at the highest heat. This skillet was considerably cheaper at Walmart and I ordered it online and a few days later went to pick it up. Once again, retro skillet wins!

Cast Iron is the best!

Cast iron is a great cooking surface, especially when properly seasoned. While I do prefer the colorful appearance of Le Cruset enameled ironware, this plain black, 15" Lodge skillet has proved to be perfect for my needs and at a reasonable price. It heats evenly and quickly and food does not stick. Clean up is simple, just wipe out with a damp cloth. Lodge skillets come pre-seasoned and with proper care, the cooking surface should last decades.

The size and weight may seem daunting at first but when it comes to sauteing large quantities of assorted meat and vegetables, it works in your favor. The weight keeps the skillet solidly on the stove top and centered over the burner, the size makes it possible to do multiple batches and just continue pushing each batch to the side until finished.

The depth of the skillet is also an advantage, preventing food from jumping out onto the stove while it is being rapidly stirred and flipped. In this, the Lodge 15" skillet is far superior to a flat, stove-top griddle for sauteing.

If you like stir-frying or sauteing your food quickly and evenly, but have been disappointed by a traditional Chinese Wok, which is not designed for Western style stoves, try the Lodge 15" cast iron skillet. You should be pleasantly surprised with the excellent results you achieve from this inexpensive alternative to imported enameled iron cookware.

Perfect Pan

If you are cooking for a bunch of people, this is just the ticket to have punched.

Most any cook knows how wonderful a cast iron skillet is and this one is wonderful.

One thing, it says it is seasoned, well maybe a bit but to really season a cast iron pan here is what my gourmet cooking partner says to do and she is is right on the mark.

Preheat the oven to 250, liberally coat the skillet with vegetable oil and let it season in the oven for four hours, let it cool in the oven after the heat is turned off.

OR

Preheat the oven to 400, liberally coat the skillet with vegetable oil and let it season in the oven for two hours, let it cool in the oven after the heat is turned off.

Repeat this for TEN days. Your skillet will be really seasoned and all you will ever do to clean it is wipe it with a paper towel and put it away.

For the price these sell for, they can't season them ten times, that is your job.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER put this in a dishwasher or in soapy water, you will lose the seasoning and need to start over.

Bigger is better in the kitchen

I've been cooking quite a bit with cast iron lately and loving it. Great heat distribution, even cooking. You can get a really nice sear on your meats etc very quickly. Cleanup is a breeze. This 15" lodge skillet is perfect for preparing food for larger groups. It's big and heavy but it has a helper handle so picking it up is more balanced. I'm very pleased with this purchase. Shopping online with walmart.com was fast and easy. Thank you!

It's big!

First, you need to know that this is a BIG SKILLET!!!! Don't even think of buying it if you have a small stove top, which I don't! It is BIG.... but holds a lot. Cooking is even. It is TOO HEAVY to move when it is on the burner! If you cook with this, you need to know it is very heavy! The height of the sides is perfect to prevent overspill or splatters, within reason, of course. Heat distribution is even providing you are using a LARGE burner! It is big enough to use as a roasting tray in the oven for a whole turkey, if necessary. Handles get VERY HOT during cooking and they are not protected with any covering so you will need to use oven mitts or the Lodge slip-on handles which I recommend. This skillet is too big for everyday use; stick to the 8" or 10" for those daily cooking chores.

BIG SKILLET!!!!

It was much bigger in person than I thought it would be. That's OK because this is going to be just an occasional use item. My new favorite thing to eat is Aji tuna which I make Asian style with the sesame seeds in my tiny lodge, cast-iron pan. I like this new recipe so much but I decided one day I will fix it for company and so I need a larger pan. This one is definitely large enough to probably put five maybe six Aji tuna steaks on the small side. I can't wait to try it out. My biggest fear is dropping it. If I drop it on my foot, it will definitely definitely cause probably multiple fractures Since I am old, it would definitely at least break your toe even if I were 20. But I held it with two hands, and I will not drop it. I will be careful not to drop it. So if you're looking for a large quality, cast-iron pan, you have found it! I recommend.

Perfect if you can lift it……

I purchased this as a gift for my niece, and she returned it because it was way too big for her stove

We bought this just for a special camping trip. After I got it, we decided to cure it and while it was is the oven for the first time we heard a loud pop and it had cracked down the middle! Two days before we left for our trip!! 
I had many cast iron lodge items and trusted buying this item because of where it came from. I was so saddened that we did not have this pan for our trip!!!

It cracked when we put it in oven!!
