<p>La presente investigación se enmarca dentro del paradigma cualitativo. Se trata de un estudio etnográfico, cuyo primordial objetivo es conocer e identificar el significado que tienen los saberes matemáticos en los procesos de enseñanza- aprendizaje de la vida comunitaria y escolar, del grupo indígena maya tseltal del Estado de Chiapas, México, desde la perspectiva de los ancianos, ancianas, profesores y profesoras.  Este objetivo se alcanza mediante la observación realizada a prácticas educativas y la realización de entrevistas semiestructuradas a los sujetos antes mencionados.  El interés de realizar esta investigación surge de la necesidad de contribuir a la reflexión en torno a la incorporación de los saberes matemáticos comunitarios en la educación intercultural bilingüe de los pueblos indígenas tseltaltales.</p><br/><p>Maya - Tseltal de la región Bachajon Chilon Chiapas. Mtra. en educación, curriculum y comunidad educativa. Experiencia profesional, la formación de docentes en educación indígena. Directora de la Normal Intercultural Bilingüe "Jacinto Canek" y coordinadora general de la UPN subsede San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas.</p>
