I recently bought this fan from Walmart and I'm very satisfied with it. The airflow is strong and it cools the room quickly. It's also very quiet, even at higher speeds, which is perfect for sleeping or working. The build quality feels solid and setup was easy. Overall, a great purchase for the summer!

Great Fan – Worth the Price!

Great fan works really well. The stand is sturdy but unfortunately, the top of the fan doesn't sit well on the base - the screw attachment to hold the two pieces together was missing. At the moment, I can pick up the fan base and hold it in one hand while the base stand is on the floor. If you pay cheap, you get cheap.

Pay cheap, get a working fan.

I needed these for my very hot classroom. The kids really like it and think it's pretty powerful. The tilt and oscillation make work well and air circulates around the room. I wasn't expecting them to be as strong as they were and was pleasantly surprised.

Great Product!

Not a bad price but they could've knocked an extra $10 off. Not particularly easy to build; had to ask my housemate to help. Instructions could be clearer but once it's built it works perfectly well.

Mainstays Fan

[Employee of walmartcanada] The price is really good and the fan is value for money. I got this a few week ago. it is easy to assemble, as I had my Mom put it together, and she could do it with ease. The on and off button is combined together with the speed control, so it is easy operation as well. The price point dictates the all plastic built. overall you get a relative quality product for the price you have paid.

all plastic neat design

[Employee of walmartcanada] Bought this fan 2 weeks ago and it's a great little fan. Setting it up was super easy, only comment with set up is instructions talk about screws in the bottom base but i could not locate the screws.  However you don't need them and in fact i prefer it without them.  What i love about this fan and the base comes off easy and you are able to pack it up for travel/ take on vacations.  The fan itself has a decent about of air flow power for a 12" fan.

Great fan for the price

Good enough, but I've already got zip ties to keep the front panel on. At least the base still works.

Crappy tabs, too small screws.

Seems to have to "warm up" before it can pick up speed. Plus, trying to tilt, the fan broke off the base.

12" fan

Bought 2 of these. It says there's 3 speed settings but when you try and put it on the highest, the fan doesn't spin at all. Setting 1 and 2 blow very little air. This is the same for both fans. Returning them.

Horrible fans

I understand that Mainstays is a discount Walmart brand -- kind of like Great Value, but for household items. And so when I buy Mainstays stuff, I have realistic expectations. In other words: I set the bar pretty low, and that generally works out fine. When I want or need something higher quality, I simply don't buy Mainstays. I'm happy about that, and I'm sure Walmart is as well because I don't end up returning it. 

However, this fan managed to fall below my very realistic (read: low) expectations.

Even before putting it together (more on this in a moment), I was stunned by how cheaply made it was. This looked like the kind of fan you'd win at a carnival; not something you would buy. I picture the product designers being told to "go back and make it even cheaper" over and over again by some bean counting executives. It's really astonishing just how low grade this thing is. 

Putting it together SHOULD be easy, because there are only a few parts. Yet it's needlessly difficult, because the screws that go into the base really don't like being inserted into plastic (who would I suppose). 

Still, laughably cheap design and irritating assembly are nothing compared to just how dysfunctional this thing is. You can barely feel it at 'full' power about 10 feet away. And at lower speeds, it might as well not even be on. 
 
Walmart has NO business charging $20 or even $15 for this thing. It is a $10 fan at MOST. 
There is no way in the known universe that this can compete with the Honeywell Turboforce 7" fan/air circulator, which at the moment Walmart is selling for $20 online ($25 in store). The Turboforce doesn't oscillate (i.e. it doesn't swivel left/right), but even with that limitation it's a categorically better fan on every level.

Bottom line? If you buy this, then keep your receipt somewhere handy, and take a pic of how this is packaged -- because you're likely going to need to refer to it in a few days (maybe a few hours like me) when you want to re-pack it and send it back to Walmart.

And as for you, Walmart: COME ON. Yeah, people like me who buy Mainstays stuff are "price sensitive" (that is, we're kinda cheap). But we aren't morons. You can't sell garbage like this and get away with it forever. Sooner or later it's going to catch up to you. You're on top of the world right now, but guess what? Sears was unsinkable (and unbelievably arrogant) for several decades. Now they're a Wikipedia entry.
